Chapter 23
Chapter 23
“You focus on this part.” We had entered Randall’s office. We checked the CCTV, but someone had unexpectedly turned the camera off, but luckily, there was an extra CCTV opposite our house where the power transformer was.
“Who do you think is behind this plan?” Randall was now seated in front of the monitor, with me behind him, as we observed how the box was being left in front of the gate. The man was dressed in a hat and black. Because he was turned his back on the CCTV, we couldn't see what he looked like.
“Well, I’m not sure, but we’ll try to find out.” He looked up at me even though his body was still facing the monitor and his head was lying back and aimed at me. Because our faces were so close, I blushed instantly at his small gesture.
When he pouted at me, I burst out laughing. I was still not moving and still laughing loudly when he suddenly drew my neck to his lips. His mind hadn’t changed.
“Ngh.” I moaned as I felt his hot tongue tried to enter my mouth, so I let him. We didn’t stop kissing even when we needed air. When he let go of my neck, I was out of breath.
“Even though it’s still early, Dad wants us to come over for dinner. I’m not going to work today because I finished it the other day. I simply require my team’s planning for the large project so it can be completed. Before we go to my parent’s house, I’d like to take you to your favorite spot before you get into an accident.” Randall rose to his feet and took my hands in his and placed them on his lips to kiss. I wasn't sure how he would have found out about my favorite spot if he hadn’t met me through an arranged marriage. With each passing day, I became more mystified.
We exited his office and went directly to our room. He put his clothes in a sports bag, as well as some of mine, while I went straight to the bathroom to clean up and get ready. When I came out of the bathroom, I was already dressed, and he was waiting for me. He was holding a black leather jacket and putting it on me. When he had finished closing the zipper, he put on the red jacket that had been placed on our bed to himself. Because his hair was wet, he may have taken a shower in the other room.
“Shall we go?” As he took my hand and clasped it in his, he was already carrying the sports bag on his shoulder. We walked down the street holding hands. Also, I swore. It was difficult for me to put into words how good it felt to be did these things. He was so sweet and reassuring. When did they saw how he treated me? Who could believed that everything he did was a lie? And if what they said about him just pretending was true...
I would just accepted it. I would just accepted his deception so that if I got hurt in the end, I could said I was happy.
Even though he was holding my hand, I called him before we got in the car. “Randall.” I kissed him and tightened my grip on our hands. After the kiss, I said what I needed to say to him. “Don't abandon me.”
“I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to abandon you. I’m not going to let you go. I’ll only let you go if you tell me you want to get away.” Randall hugged me and kissed my head after he said that.
We got in the car and drove down the highway, which was congested. We talked in the car for two hours until I realized I had dozed off.
I awoke to a kiss on the cheek. I slowly opened my eyes and gazed out the window. It was starting to get dark. Had I slept long? When we left, it was just afternoon. I looked at Randall, who was staring at me.
“Where are we?” I turned his from outside the window to him. I could only saw darkness. Was there a problem with the car? Why were we in this location?
“Your favorite spot.” He extended his hand to me and waited for me to take it. “Come out and take a look.” He came to my door. He pushed open the door and extended his hand once more. I didn’t think twice about it and laid my palm on his.
I was astounded by what I saw after the descent. I could saw the entire city lit up. There were red, yellow, and other lights. In addition to skyscrapers. I was crying as I looked at him. I wasn't sure if what he says about this being my favorite place was true, but even if it was not; this was now my favorite place. It was wonderful to see the buildings and houses down below. They appeared to be dancing for amusement.
Randall hurried back to the car and grabbed something; a minute later, he returned carrying a large picnic cloth. He sat down after putting it on. As he tapped the space next to him, I looked at him. When I sat next to him, he laid on my legs and closed his eyes. Perhaps tired from driving, I smiled. I play with his hair and sang a lullaby that I couldn’t figure out how I’d be able to sing.
Here we were again and
words were hard to find
But I guessed that never was my style
All I had to offer was my song
From his nose to his lips, I ran my fingers across his face. As I continued to sing, he kept his eyes closed. It was as if I didn’t want to let go of that lullaby because my lips wanted to sing it. My lips seemed to have memorized every word I sang.
So I played it well
‘Cause it was all for you
It was just a love song.
And I would sing it all for you
Just a love song
A simple melody for two
But to me, it sounds just like a symphony
And when the words had come and gone
My love would lingered on for you
When I touched his eyes, I couldn’t continue singing. I could feel the water but couldn’t tell if it was a tear because it was already dark, but my heart pounded when he spoke.
“I’m missing you, my angel.”
I would have looked to see if he was awake or dreaming, but I was taken aback when he abruptly stood up and left me. He got in his car and turned on the light, while I folded the picnic blanket and walked to the car.
“It’s almost dinnertime; let’s go back to be on time.” As he said that, he averted his gaze from me. As he started the car, I walked up to his seat. We arrived at his parents’ mansion quickly because there was no traffic.
I was no longer surprised to see Charlotte when we walked in. She went downstairs with Randall’s mother, Amelia. They both stared at me, but I didn’t avert my gaze. I had nothing to be concerned about because Randall had already told me what happened to them and Charlotte. And if mommy Amelia was going to argue with me about marriage arrangements, I didn't care. Despite my strong heart, I couldn’t help but tense up. Randall must had noticed my gesture because he quickly wrapped his hand around my waist and kissed me on the lips. I grinned at Charlotte because of what Randall had done.
The maids brought out the food that Randall and I used to eat in restaurants while we were in that position. Charlotte and mommy Amelia also continue to walk, and I saw Randall’s father arrived. Bernard, Randall’s father.
“My beautiful daughter-in-law, how are you?” he said as he hugged me. He still wouldn’t let go when Randall yanked me away from his father. I was not sure why his face became solemn while his father laughed.
He invited us to eat, but I felt my body became sticky, so I asked them to let me use the restroom first to wipe my body. Randall still wanted to accompany me because I didn’t know how to get to the roundabout in this house, but I told him I was fine.
When Charlotte came in and locked the door while I was wiping in the bathroom, I was surprised.
“What is this woman up to again?” I wondered.
