Chapter 81
Chapter 81
“Did you see?”
Aiden lowered his claw and looked at the figure standing before him. He gave a slight nod. “I saw.”
“Do you regret it?” she asked.
Her starry eyes were devoid of ripples, perfectly still, just like her tone. It was as if the annihilation of a world was nothing more than a simple game to her.
Regret? Not exactly. But my heart is heavy. To bear the weight of an entire world like a crown… and was she truly asking for nothing in return, as she claimed?
Aiden shook his head. Looking at the being before him, he thought that perhaps she could help him. “I am not on the main plane right now, but in a sub-plane. Can you return me to the main plane?”
CRACK.
A fissure split the space around them.
“Time is up. It seems you must leave,” she said.
His red pupils narrowed. She seemed to be deliberately avoiding the topic. “Wait a moment—”
CRACK!
The void shattered.

Inside the cave, a massive figure, thirty yards long, lay quietly on the ground. Its red, scaled eyelids flew open, the nictitating membranes retracting to reveal fiery, slitted pupils as consciousness returned to its body.
Staring at the familiar cave walls, Aiden didn't immediately rise. His gaze focused on his left eye. The ring was gone, replaced by the icon of a fiery crown. He concentrated on the new symbol.

The new panel was a sight to behold. His gaze fell upon his stage. A normal wyrmling would need five years to reach this level, yet he was already there. It seemed the woman's efforts hadn't been for nothing. He certainly didn't believe he had slumbered for five years; if that much time had passed, the life sacrifice would have long since concluded.
His eyes moved to Ninth Throne, an ability that did not belong to the Dragon's Heritage.
Ninth Throne: You have a seat upon providence's throne.
That woman, providence, she definitely heard my last request, Aiden grumbled to himself as he moved to the next ability.
Source of Flame: The Order of the Source Flame are your servants.
Ninth Dominion: The Fiery Crown.
Providence's Gaze: Providence is watching you.
After a moment's inspection, Aiden pushed himself up on his powerful claws. Alright, time to go out. An image of a white and a blue figure surfaced in his mind. He wondered how those two were doing.
He stood before the tunnel he had dug. It was… small. He would have to expand it. He lifted his claws and began to dig, clawing his way toward the outside.
At the sealed entrance of the cave, two figures lay on the ground, one white and one blue, their tails limp and listless. The white one was holding a piece of cactus, apathetically slicing the spines off. She cut away the last spine and opened her maw.
“Chomp.”
CRASH!
The sound of shattering rock came from behind her. The white dragon's head, a piece of cactus still sticking out of her mouth, lifted and turned toward the cave. Azure, who had been delving into the Dragon's Heritage, also opened her eyes, her gaze fixed on the source of the sound.
He's finally awake?
CRASH!
With a final swipe of a claw, the last of the rock barrier was gone. A red dragon stood in the opening. In front of him, a white and a blue dragon head were staring right at him.
He looked at the white head with the cactus sticking out of its mouth. Same familiar fool. He studied her more closely. Her white head was gaunt, almost skeletal, like that of a bone dragon. It seemed the past months—or longer—had not been kind to them. For dragons of their high-tier strength, they shouldn't have ended up in such a miserable state.
His gaze flickered to the sealed cave entrance. No light penetrated the rubble. The aura that seeped in from the outside was manic and frenzied. Aiden felt a suspicion form. Has the life sacrifice already begun?
“Aiden! You're finally awake, aow!” The white wyrmling scrambled over, her crystalline eyes practically glowing. To her, Aiden meant a full stomach. That was the only thing reflected in her eyes.
“Let's go, Aiden! Let's go hunting!” Her white tail began to wag.
Aiden chose to ignore the foolish-looking creature, his gaze shifting to the blue figure beside her. Like Bianca, Azure also looked quite gaunt. Aiden took two steps forward and lay down, bringing his eyes level with hers.
“Has the life sacrifice already begun?”
The blue head nodded. Azure was somewhat surprised. His body has grown so much larger.
“How long was I asleep?”
“One year longer than Bianca and I.”
One year? Aiden's red pupils narrowed in thought. I wonder how that mortal girl is doing, and if her mana is sufficient yet.
Bianca bounded in front of him. “Aiden! Let's go hunting! You just woke up, aren't you hungry, aow?” She sat up on her hind legs, her white tail wagging back and forth, her shining eyes filled with pure, unadulterated longing. She was starving. She wanted meat.
His train of thought shattered, Aiden looked at the creature before him. He lifted a claw and pressed it down on her foolish white head, pinning it to the ground.
“Be quiet for a moment.”
His red eyes met her white ones.
“Oh…” she whimpered, aggrieved.
Seeing that she had quieted down, Aiden didn't remove his claw, keeping her pinned as he continued to think. The life sacrifice has started. If the will of this sub-plane detects my powerful new abilities, it will never let me go. I have to contact her—see if she can open the summoning portal now. Even if her mana isn't enough, it shouldn't be a problem anymore, though it might be taxing for her.
His red eyes were emotionless. Tsk. And that woman, providence. Why was she unwilling to help me? It would have been such a simple thing for her.
Aiden grumbled internally, then looked down at Bianca, still pinned beneath his claw.
