The Fiery Crown Cycle: A Dragon's Rebirth

Chapter 79

Chapter 79

After what felt like an eternity of slumber, Aiden opened his eyes. A familiar ceiling filled his vision. He pushed himself up with his arms, sitting up in bed.

Where am I?

His gaze swept across the room. A computer desk, a bed. On the desk lay a lottery ticket and a hospital check-up slip. This looks like… my room.

But that wasn't right. Memories of two wyrmlings—one white, one blue—surfaced in his mind, only to vanish. Their faces were veiled, like the details of a dream that evaporate moments after waking—crystal clear one second, then rapidly blurring into nothingness.

Aiden lifted his left hand. It was not a draconic claw, but a human hand, with a palm that wasn't particularly wide and fingers that were slender and long.

Ring, ring, ring…

A familiar alarm blared. He turned his head, his eyes falling on the bedside table. A small lamp was on, and next to it, an iPhone. The screen was lit up, an alarm clock icon shaking back and forth. He reached out, the phone's weight familiar in his hand. He swiped a finger across the screen. The ringing stopped.

The phone returned to its standby screen. The time displayed was 8:30. Right. I have to go cash in my lottery ticket. And the results from his hospital check-up were ready. The doctor had specifically told him to pick them up in person.

Aiden knew what that medical report meant, which was why he had no intention of picking it up today.

He stood up, grabbing clothes from the foot of the bed and pulling them on. A minute later, he was dressed. He slipped on a pair of slippers, walked to the window, and pulled back the curtains. Blinding sunlight flooded the room. He pushed open the window, and fresh air poured in, airing out the stuffy space.

Aiden went into the washroom. Five minutes later, after taking care of business, he stood before the mirror. A handsome but gaunt face stared back at him.

Everything was so familiar. He squeezed toothpaste onto a brush and began to clean his teeth. He was done in under a minute. He pulled a towel from its hook, wet it, and wiped his face. Alright, finished.

He hung the towel back up and walked out of the washroom. He was hungry. I'll make a salad.

As he thought this, he turned, and saw a familiar figure sitting in the chair behind him.Stolen from NovelBin, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

It was his former boss. She had a stunning figure, her breasts large and full, straining against the white silk of her blouse. Her hips were sensual, their curve accentuated by a black pencil skirt. She was sitting backwards in the chair, her chin propped on her hands, which were folded over its back.

“Aiden, how have you been lately?”

Seeing her gentle smile, a muscle in Aiden's eyelid began to twitch uncontrollably. This was his home. Why was this woman here?

“Is there something you need from me?” he asked.

“Just one little thing,” she said, standing up with a smile. A pleasant fragrance wafted from her, a perfume he didn't recognize. “Come closer. I have something to tell you.”

The twitch in Aiden's eyelid intensified, but he silently took a few steps forward.

Click. The window closed on its own.

Swish. The curtains drew themselves shut.

His beautiful, sensual boss began to disrobe. Soon, she was nearly naked.

“My husband is away on a long trip, darling,” she cooed. “I'm so lonely. Would you like to make love with me?”

Wrong. This is all wrong. She would never be this forward.

Aiden instinctively raised his hand, but this time, it was different. In his vision, his hand began to flicker.

Human palm… draconic claw… palm… claw…

SQUELCH!

His claws, now fully manifested, plunged into her flesh.

The world around him began to change. The feeling of immense power flooded back into his body. He looked down at the figure impaled on his claws. It was no longer his boss.

It was a woman with a pair of curved, red horns. A thin, black tail swished behind her. Flames erupted in his red, slitted pupils. This was a demon from the Abyss. A succubus.

This damned thing dared to fool me.

Aiden brought his left claw up and, with a sharp twist, squeezed. A mess of mangled flesh fell away. After dispatching the damnable succubus, Aiden finally took stock of his surroundings.

He was in a void, a space of endless dark.

Clap, clap, clap…

The sound of applause came from behind him. Aiden turned.

A figure was approaching, her gait unhurried and graceful. She wore a simple white dress and had silver hair that fell to her hips. Her frame was slender, her waist so delicate it looked as though a single swipe of his claw could shatter it. A black, three-leaf clover ornament was tied there.

She was a young girl, seemingly ordinary and unremarkable. But how could an ordinary girl appear in a place like this?

She walked barefoot until she stood before the massive dragon—a creature many times her size—and stopped. They stared at each other for a few seconds.

“You're too tall. Lower yourself.”

Her voice was calm—so calm it sent a chill of dread through Aiden's heart. The being before him was absolutely not a normal human. A presence emanated from her, heavy and immutable, like the laws of the cosmos itself.

Aiden did as she asked, lowering his great head. “Who are you?” he asked.

His obedience seemed to please her. A smile touched her lips.

“My name is very long,” she said, her voice unhurried. “But I have a shorter name.”

She paused.

“Providence.”

Hearing the name, Aiden's red pupils instantly constricted into a thin line.
