Chapter 1267: Extra Story: Sebastian & Violet 5
Chapter 1267: Extra Story: Sebastian & Violet 5
Under normal circumstances, achieving recognition for a marriage contract by the Underworld can be done in two ways.
One common method is a ghost marriage, where a marriage document is submitted to the Underworld, automatically binding the marriage either before or after death.
The other, less common scenario, is like that of Violet and Sebastian, where an automatic Nether Contract is generated with the approval of various Netherworld Officials.
The Nether Contract, in some ways, is somewhat similar to the marriage contract between Scarlett Jennings and Samuel Chalmers.
The difference is that the former is recognized by the Heavenly Dao and not easily altered, while the latter is certified verbally by Netherworld officials.
Regardless, the Nether Contract is now in effect. No matter how things are in the Mortal Realm, at least in the Underworld, their marital relationship has been acknowledged.
Even if Sebastian encounters a ghost in the future, thanks to this Nether Contract, no ghost would dare approach him.
Neither Sebastian nor Violet could have imagined that a simple soul-reaping mission would inexplicably result in a binding Nether Contract.
"It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have lied and said you were my fiancé to deceive the Shadow Mountain Ghost King. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have babbled in front of my boss, causing today’s issue."
Violet had heard about the Nether Contract but did not expect it to be generated so casually.
Who’d have thought that the arrow she shot two years ago would boomerang back and hit her and Sebastian two years later?
When Sebastian heard her taking responsibility, he shook his head,
"You were helping me at that time. I didn’t deny it, so we both bear responsibility."
Then, seeing she was about to speak again, he simply said,
"This matter can be discussed later. Shouldn’t you first deal with what’s in your hand?"
Sebastian gestured towards the soul of "Wuthering Atkins" she was holding.
Besides him, there was also the Evil Master, who lost all his power and suffered backlash from magic, leaving him barely alive, and he needed attention as well.
Reminded by Sebastian, Violet remembered that Wuthering Atkins, originally a scapegoat, was still guarding his body below.
She immediately got to work.
She notified the Capital Security Bureau to come over and handle the almost dead Evil Master while she brought Wuthering Atkins’s soul back to the venue and located the staff he replaced.
This time, she smoothly returned the soul to its place.
Normally, when a living soul returns, it won’t remember its experiences during the soul’s absence, so the staff member naturally believed they had suddenly fainted and wouldn’t recall Sebastian’s involvement with Impermanence.
Having handled these matters, Violet was ready to go back to the Underworld to report her mission. Looking at Sebastian, recalling his earlier attempt to stop her from soul reaping, she decided to reassure him,
"I’ll find a way to deal with the Nether Contract when I return. If it can’t be broken, we can still part ways. It won’t affect you, I promise!"
She spoke lightly, but an undetectable hint of self-mockery flashed in her eyes.
After all, who would want to be bound in marriage to someone like her, a Life Impermanence?
Sebastian is a good person, but after today, he probably won’t have a favorable view of the Impermanence profession.
Violet had always been clear-eyed regarding matters like this.
She concealed her thoughts well, but unfortunately, across from her was Sebastian Carew, who often analyzed others’ micro-expressions for acting purposes. He almost instantly noticed the fleeting self-mockery in her eyes.
He immediately spoke,
"I’m not worried."
He said,
"I know you’ll find a way. Even if it can’t be resolved for a while, it won’t affect me. Being bound by a contract with someone is a first for me as well, and honestly, it’s quite novel."
He attempted to say something to ease her pressure regarding this matter, but seeing Violet staring straight at him for a long time, about to speak yet hesitant,
"Actually, it’s not your first time..."
Violet softly reminded,
"Although that time with the Shadow Mountain Ghost King was his unilateral marking, it could also be considered a type of contract."
Sebastian: ...
Thank you for the reminder, but don’t do it next time.
After sending Violet off, Sebastian returned to his concert preparations.
He had thought she would come to him soon, but to his surprise, he didn’t see her even after the concert preparations were finished. Instead, his family subtly urged him to get married.
"Do you remember Diana Craig from the Craig family in the Capital? She claims to be your fan. Why not send her a VIP ticket and invite her to your concert?"
Though that’s what was said, the Craig family’s daughter certainly didn’t lack a concert ticket. It was merely an excuse to let the two meet.
Sebastian naturally heard their intentions and immediately thought of at least ten ways to gently refuse.
But when his gaze fell on the faintly visible Shadow Energy Bracelet on his wrist, not knowing why, before he could think, his words already spilled out,
"I’m afraid it’s inappropriate. I currently have a marriage contract with someone else, so it’s not suitable for me to engage too much with other girls."
Having said that, he didn’t care about the bombshell he just dropped on the other side and used his concert preparations as an excuse to hang up the phone.
After hanging up, he thought he’d regret his impulsive and thoughtless words, but having said it, he actually felt an inexplicable sense of relief.
He even couldn’t help but chuckle a little.
While smiling, he suddenly noticed something was amiss behind him. Turning his head, he saw his manager Delvior standing there, mouth agape in a speechless state of shock.
After a long while, Delvior regained his ability to speak and desperately asked,
"You’re engaged?! How come I didn’t know about this?!"
It was only then that Sebastian vaguely realized he had slipped his tongue earlier. He wanted to explain, but feeling the matter was too complicated, he simply said,
"That’s the situation, but rest assured, it definitely won’t affect my career."
After a pause, he added,
"Just keep this to yourself for now, don’t spread it."
Delvior almost burst into tears. He wasn’t stupid enough to leak that kind of information.
More pressing than that, he wanted to know who the little seductress was that hooked his star! And when did it happen?!
Sebastian had always been a prudent and measured person, but this time, he seemed inexplicably rebellious.
After dropping one bombshell on this end, he dropped another on the other, leaving everyone’s mentality in a mess and himself free to look forward to the concert in two days.
Violet showed up the day before the concert.
No longer in a soul-detached state, she appeared as an ordinary girl-next-door, contacting him by phone and finally appearing after passing numerous security barriers.
When Sebastian saw Violet, he didn’t ask where she’d gone these days, but instead —
"Why didn’t you just soul-detach to come in?"
In the past, she would just appear out of nowhere.
Violet rubbed her head, for once a bit shy,
"I was afraid of scaring you again, and it wouldn’t be polite..."
She said, not waiting for Sebastian to speak, quickly lowering her backpack and rummaging through it,
"I’ve been pestering my boss in the Underworld these past days, and this Nether Contract is indeed challenging to dissolve,
now the simplest way is for us to write a divorce document and burn it to the Underworld. Once they receive the divorce request, the Nether Contract will be automatically dissolved~
It would mean some inconvenience for you, as the Underworld would count it as your second marriage, but don’t worry! It’s still your first marriage in the Mortal Realm and won’t affect your future weddings."
She rambled on as usual, not giving him a chance to interject,
"Let’s write the divorce document before your concert, so it won’t delay your later matters..."
As she said this, she spread open a black scroll, ready to write, but unexpectedly, her wrist was suddenly grabbed by Sebastian.
With his slightly cool palm only giving a gentle squeeze before quickly releasing, Sebastian looked at her, almost compelled by a supernatural force, and mumbled,
"How about... we don’t dissolve it yet."
