Chapter 227: [227] Secrets of the treasury (1)
The moment Reginald arrived at the door that led to the royal treasury, relief immediately flooded him.
Artie was alive...
The red haired elf gritted her teeth, nursing a nasty cut by her side, while her friend went to work healing the wound.
When she noticed his presence, she turned and greeted him with a bow. "Grand Marshal, I was not expecting you..." she said curtly.
"Think nothing of it, the situation demanded my presence."
It was at that moment that the rest of his knights finally caught up to him, panting heavily as they tried to catch their breath.
Reginal spared them an annoyed glance before turning back to Artie. "What happened?"
"Two men ambushed us, they managed to climb up to this point without making a single noise."
"He was very skilled, it took eveything in my power to hold him back, without Yen’s help it would have been a different story."
She angrily glared at the door then poured her fist into it. "The cowards managed to slip past me, they have locked himself in the treasury."
Reginald absorbed everything Artie said with a curious expression.
It was just like he thought, the theif was rather skilled. Wind magic was likely used to keep them in the dark, if not, the response from the guards would have been much faster.
"My lord." One of the knights walked closer to them. "Shall we break down the door?"
"You call yourself a knight and you do not know our own laws?" Reginald scolded the knight. "If we could just break it, do you think the witch wouldn’t have done that ages ago?"
Reginald had no idea how the thief managed to get into the royal treasury, but now that he did, they were in a difficult situation.
First of all, to break down the door, they needed the express permission of not just any member of the royal family, but the king himself.
He glanced at the door and frowned. The tall adamantine doors were painted gold, and had a lot of intricate designs woven into it.
But these designs were not for aesthetic reasons alone, and the door was not made of gold...
It was made of a tough adamantine alloy that had great magic resistance, and the designs were runes, added to make it even more impregnable.
The only way to pull down the door would be with something like a Titan Hammer. There was only one in the palace, which was where the second problem came in...
It was the kings personal weapon, and the hammer had a rather nasty temper.
’Who is going to be bold enough to wake up the king at this time?’ Reginald swallowed.
"You," he held the nearest knight and patted his shoulder with a friendly smile on his face.
"Inform the king of the current situation..."
The knight went pale, a shiver running down his spine.
But he did not dare waste a second after receiving an order from the Grand Marshal.
As the knight hurried to carry out his task, a thick cloud of gloom following him, Reginald pulled out his great sword from the sheath strapped to his back.
"You should get some rest." He said to Artie. "We’ll handle the rest."
He placed his two hands on the pommel of the sword, the tip pressed against the floor as he waited.
There was only one way in or out of the treasury, so in a way, the intruder had dug his own grave.
Even if the king did not heed their call, all they had to do was wait, and when the robber got tired and decided to step out...
There would be a knight of the Commander Rank waiting right there for him.
’I swear by my honour...’ Reginald’s features hardened. ’You will not go unpunished for your crimes.’
<•••>
The inside of the royal treasury was just how Eliron had inagined heaven to be. There were gold coins littering the floor, gold bars that towered up to the ceiling, magic crystals, silver, and even ancient weapons.
According to Prince Alexander, the treasury was divided into three chambers, based on the importance of the items stored within it.
The room they were currently in was ’Gold Square,’ the area where part of the kingdom’s treasury was stored.
Eliron had to tear his eyes off the gold as they proceeded deeper. The second room was known as Herald’s Haul—it contained the bulk of Donia’s artifacts.
He could see a lot of Interesting items, a skull engraved with jewels, a crooked bone wrapped up in red cloth, and a compass that was levitating in the air, amongst others.
"Rember, no stealing." Alex’s eyes narrowed when he saw Eliron staring at the items with greedy eyes.
Each one of the artifacts stashed here was at least worth a fortune!
They had so many, surely they would not mind if one or two were to go missing—
"Lord Eliron!"
"Yeah, yeah. I won’t go back on my word." Eliron waved his hands dismissively.
Finally, the last part of the treasury was seen to be the most important. It was a Library with a moderate number of books.
Not as much as a normal library would have, but greater than a typical personal library.
"This is where we keep important text. Our history, architectural plans, contracts, Tomes and Magic Grimoires of course..."
Eliron glanced up and nodded. "Impressive."
"So what are you looking for? This is where the treasury ends."
"I know." Eliron walked up to one of the shelves and pulled out a book.
— The Dragonomia.
He glanced at Alex. "I am looking for a certain book."
In the original story, after Donia fell, Prince Alexander and the original MC found themselves in a dilemma.
The third apostle, one of the Lord of the dead’s subordinates, was far too powerful for them to defeat.
So to have an edge over him, they decided to search for one of the Donia Kindom’s greatest assets, Dagon the Blessed.
Moved by an ancient pact he had with a long past king, Dagon decided to create a weapon capable of evening up the odds.
But to create such a weapon, he needed an artifact that belonged to the first king of Donia...
The Sceptre Of Truth.
This was because the scepter of truth was filled with two types od mana that were fatal to the undead— light and life.
Using the sceptre, the dwarf crafted the holy blade, Mevior, which was the Third Apostle’s undoing.
But that was not going to happen thia time around, the third apostle will be stopped at Kasket, long before Alexander makes contact with the MC.
And as for the scepter of truth...
Eliron walked up to a certain book. Compared to the rest of them, it was plain, bound together by old leather and bearing no other adornments.
He grabbed the book and pulled it forward. Immediately he did, there was a loud click, and then straight, broken lines of mana suddenly appeared in the air around them, encasing them within its strange symbols.
...it would be his.
