Chapter 169: The calamity
Chapter 169: The calamity
At the first floor of the Majestic Castle.
The music changed as the young men and women continued to dance, the youngsters were a sight to behold, but the most dazzling pair was still Damon and Anastasia.
However, while the youngsters were in their world, the chandelier, hidden due to the illusion sorcery, began to glow faintly.
It wasn’t the chandelier itself but a small crystal ball attached to it that was glowing.
’It should be right about now.’ Damon thought, taking a glance at his watch that read; 00:00
The moment Damon thought of that,
BOOM!
Suddenly, the chandelier exploded, and shards of aether-reinforced glass showered down onto the Center Stage.
The incident was so abrupt that no one was prepared for it- excluding Damon.
Anastasia noticed the glass flying toward her face at the last second, but before she could do anything, a hand appeared in front of her face, and the shard of glass dug into it slightly.
"Alistair! Are you alright?" Elsa asked as Alistair covered her in the last second as quite a few glass pieces dug inside his right arm.
Anastasia meanwhile, merely tilted her head at damon’s injured hand and scoffed.
"Show off." Anastasia was perfectly capable of being able to stop the glass by herself.
Only the people like Emmett, Aldrich, Kamden and Silvie that were above Theta rank were fine.
Unlike normal explosion, the chandelier bursted and the pieces flew downwards at a very high speed which didn’t gave anyone a chance to react to it.
On the second floor,
"What happened?" Yvonne and Fiona shook as they stood up, and so did the others. It were their children down there after all.
The chandelier was made from Zeta rank material, so apart from a few, many others sustained cuts from the exploding chandelier.
But something even stranger occurred when the footage on the projection changed, revealing a middle aged man with pointed ears, a deranged smile and fervor in his gaze.
"Hello, I am Doran, an apostle of the dark cult." the man said grinning, in a slightly amused voice.
"It seems like the previous incidents like the dark cult’s attacks on the four races didn’t work, so, we decided.... why not target one race at a time hehehehe!" the masked man chuckled sinisterly.
Everyone was confused, but the operatives, who were handling the broadcast, were the most stunned.
"CALL THE OPERATION TOWER, TELL THEM TO SHUT THE MOTHER TRANSMITTER!!" An operative shouted.
"Sir, we can’t connect to them," one of his men replied.
"Then turn this off!!" the head operative yelled.
The man tried, but his attempts were futile.
"We don’t have control to turn it off," the man informed the head operative, looking back at him.
"Yeah, someone has hijacked the entire network connected to the Operation Tower," another person added.
"I have a small message for the human domain and a small gift," the elf spoke with a wide grin.
"What the hell is this?" Sevas said frowning.
"We’ve decided to give the human race a gift that will etch our name in your minds," the elf announced.
"Pillars of Humanity," he continued, "I have a little challenge for you all."
"This world has remained peaceful for far too long. Many have forgotten the thing that which they should fear, like our organisation." the masked man said.
"So to make it a bit more interesting, we have presented a little challenge from our side," he added.
At that moment, the a transmission flowed through to Sevas through a special artifact, and a projection appeared before him.
"Your majesty!!" The man on the hologram shouted, shifting the attention of every single Alpha ranked.
"We have heard the news that the horrors in the Sybil Deadland have awakened and are heading straight for the empire," he announced, a pale look on his face.
"Which one?" Sevas asked, his question causing every single person on the third floor to frown.
"It’s not o-one b-but multiple-" the man stuttered, but the connection was cut off by Sevas before he could finish.
"By now you must have started hearing about it. While you were busy preparing for the Gala, we were also planning a little something of our own." The elf continued.
"Sybil Deadland, Ashen Deadland, Immemorial Deadland, Pearl Deadland." the elf smiled. "All we had to do was awaken a few ancient horrors, and point them in the direction of your empires."
"Your task is merely to survive," the grinning elf declared. "Just until your Pillars of Humanity arrive and save you all," he added.
The words ’ancient horrors’ were enough to silence the entire Castle.
"What are ancient horrors?" a little girl asked, not understanding what was happening.
"I-I will tell you later," her mother responded, looking just as shocked.
"As I have announced the gift first, let’s talk about the message," the masked man proposed.
The young men and women on the first floor went crazy.
"Hey, is this some sort of prank?"
"Did he just say he was part of the dark cult?"
"Hey, this is a joke, right? He’s not talking about the ancient horrors we know right?"
"I am sure that many of you are not satisfied with the current way society functions," the elf declared.
"But we can’t really do anything against the noble and royal families. It has been this way for far too long," he added.
"Those who wish to join us, even those who have hidden themselves due to circumstances, you’re welcome," the elf grinned.
"TURN THIS OFF!" Sevas bellowed, his clenched fist causing the room to shake.
"Quit shouting. Your shoutings will do nothing to improve the situation." Amon chided.
"Turn against this world. Join the Dark Cult," the elf said, a small flame appearing in his hand. "When our Lords and saviours, the Darkwalkers descend upon this plane once more, you’ll either burn along with the world, or be the one that burns it." The elf’s tone took a serious turn.
"And just so you all know, I didn’t forget about the ancient horrors resting in the Spire chain of mountains, nor the one in beneath the Astral Mystic Island." the elf’s grin was the last thing the everyone saw before the screen changed, showing footage from Operation Tower.
"This can’t be real," Lucas muttered, staring at the screen, but instantly vanished from the room, and such was the case for the other Alpha rankers.
There was only one thing that could be classified as an ancient horror current times. Monsters and beasts that were at the alpha rank. Such beasts mostly resided in the Deadlands, safe for some like the one in the Spire chain of mountains, or the one beneath the Astral Mystic Island.
Only beings at the Alpha rank, or perhaps those at the Beta rank could truly understand the gravity of the situation.
While the Alpha rankers disappeared from the third floor, the first and second floor were in disarray.
"What do you think is happening?" Anastasia turned to Damon.
"That I don’t know, but I have a bad feeling about it." Damon said, even though he knew that the worst of it had yet to come.
Damon was sure that the alpha rankers were already gone by now, which meant the heretics were about to attack any moment from now.
’Let’s hope this doesn’t get as bad as it did in the novel.’ Damon thought, but the moment he did, the lights in the first floor suddenly went out.
"Oh boy."
An overwhelming aura creeping with dark malice swept through the first floor, freezing every youngster, and seeking to crush them to paste. However, it wasn’t given the chance to, as equally powerful auras from the second floor nullified it’s effect.
Outside the majestic Castle, numerous airships had arrived, with at least a dozen black cloaked members floating before the airships.
On the other hand, on the decks of the airships were countless black cloaked members also.
The black cloaked figure at the forefront turned to the others and yelled; " FOR THE DARK CULT!! FOR OUR LORDS!!!!"
"ATTACK!!!"
The black cloaked minions began surging into the first floor while the youngsters were still baffled by the overwhelming aura that appeared earlier. But they weren’t called the elites for nothing.
"Stick close to me." Ariel suddenly appeared before Damon and Anastasia.
Alistair, Elsa, Fabian, and the rest, were also shielded by their respective family members.
"Slaughter them all!!! Their blood will be the key for our lords’ descent!!!!" A heretic yelled, and the first floor devolved into chaos.
---------
Far away at the Nirvana forest bordering the Ashen Deadlands.
"VRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRR," a creature that looked like an eldritch horror roared, and the sound of its roar demolished the surrounding area, crushing trees and breaking mountains.
Many kilometers away from the monster, was Nirvana city. The city guards were were shocked by the sudden earthquake, before they and the rest of the people in the entire city felt their skin being ripped apart as their flesh and bones were crushed, killing them instantly.
A moment later, Amon Darkfell’s figure appeared above the now devastated city.
