Chapter 142: Damon vs Anastasia 4
Chapter 142: Damon vs Anastasia 4
*** 08:05 AM, 8 days earlier***
It was Saturday, one of the two days students were allowed to leave the campus, and it was also exactly one week before the entrance exam.
However, today was a little special for Damon. He went straight to the mission hall, and took a mission to the Remea continent, specifically River city.
Once he arrived at the city, Damon made his way towards his singular objective, the shack in the slums where old man Ren lived.
Knock knock!
On the first knock, the door of the shack swung open as if it’s occupant had been lying in wait. Angreying old man who looked to be in his sixties emerged from within.
"Good morning, old man." Damon smiled. "From your expression I take it you’re done fixing my artifact."
"Come with me." Old man Ren simply turned back, and Damon followed him to the hidden basement/ workshop lying beneath the shack.
The moment Damon descended into the workshop, he sighted a small glass box right next to the furnace, one that held two silver braces that seemed to hum with power. Both were inscribed with purple inscriptions.
Old man Ren walked towards the glass box and took out the bands. "Here." the old man extended the artifact to Damon. "Be careful not to blow yourself away while using them."
"What?!" Damon snapped, eyes widened.
"Forget I said that." the old man sighed.
’It better not be true old man.’ Damon grimaced as he accepted the braces. The moment he did however, Damon felt something change in his immediate surroundings. The dormant aether contract that had been lying in his being stirred.
Damon immediately knew what it was. The aether contract was reminding him to fulfill his own part of the contract since the old man has done his. At which he was supposed to tell the old man where his daughter was after receiving the fixed artifact from the old man.
"Now that I’ve fulfilled my part, it’s your turn." the old man’s eyes narrowed. "Where can I find my daughter?"
"Tsk, it’s not like I was trying to go back on the deal anyway." Damon clicked his tongue. "Go to the Aetherial association branch in Ashton capital and you’ll find your daughter there, she’s the head of the branch, Ariana Zarad."
The moment damon finished speaking, two bright lights burst out from both his figure and that of old man Ren’s. The two lights met together, before breaking apart and scattering in the surroundings.
Almost immediately, Damon felt an invisible weight off his shoulders, one that he hadn’t even known he was carrying. Meanwhile, Old man Ren fell to his knees.
"She... she really is alive. My little Ari is alive." he muttered in a daze. Truth ne told he hadn’t really believed Damon even with the aether contract. After the boy’s last visit, he had asked a little about Damon and came to know that the boy had been exiled sometime over a month. It wasn’t a secret after all. Even though he hoped and hoped that the young man wasn’t lying, and that his daughter was alive.
"Of course she is." Damon scoffed. "What do you take me for? A liar?" He snorted amused. "And would you stop calling her little Ari, honestly it’s weird. She’s old enough to be my grandmother."
"A liar? Maybe." the old man chuckled weakly. "Its hard to believe a prince would actually come here to seek my help through threatening me with the head of my daughter after all."
Damon frowned.
"Threaten you?"
"Yes." the old man nodded. "When I said no to your request, you said word for word; ’It seemed you don’t want to see little Ari again’."
"It sounded like a threat?" Damon brows knitted. "I guess it does sound like a threat when coming from someone like me." he nodded to himself.
"Yes, it did." the old man affirmed. "Except the cat was out of the bag when I learn you were exiled." the old man said.
"Tsk, exiled or not, I’m a prince nonetheless."
"See yourself out." Old man Ren said, as he got back on his feet. "I have somewhere to be." The old man said, seemingly in a hurry to head to a certain capital.
***Present day***
Before Anastasia could get to him, the braces on Damon’s hands met with a sonorous clang like that of a bell chime, followed by;
BOOOOM!
A torrential cataclysmic repulsive force burst forth, razing the ground and the sky alike in a ’V’ shape from the point of impact all the way to the end of the arena in an instant, and sent Anastasia flying like a ragdoll straight into the walls of the stands.
Damon’s reflections meanwhile had already flickered out from the attack’s radius in preparation for it, so none of them got hit.
"Damn, that was... Insane." Damon had tested the bands of legom in the training halls, but that was in a simulated environment. Meanwhile this was in battle, and it left Damon simply in awe.
With a burst of speed, the reflections moved towards the hole Anastasia made in the like black lightnings. The moment they got in a five meter radius from the hole, three raised their swords.
Fall!" The hole in which Anastasia was stuck in and it’s surrounding area got shredded to pieces as the swords fell.
However, one of the reflections instantly caught glimpse of a red blur, which meant all of them did.
"What the...?"
The reflection began, but didn’t get the chance to finish his sentence as the red blur struck from his side. The impact landed with a sickening wet crunch, followed by a blast of displaced air as the reflection launched backwards.
Before any of the reflections could react, five more reflections had lost their heads, shattering into motes of light.
Before the seventh reflection could draw his sword, the red blur struck him so hard that it drove him deep into the walls of the stands near instantly.
The eighth reflection however, managed to react before the scarlet blur appeared. He threw his hands towards the red blur, the wind around his limb tearing the air out of sheer force. The scarlet blur however, weaved under the attack and caught the reflections follow up kick, seized him mid motion, sending him across the arena like a ragdoll, straight towards Damon’s main body.
The reflection crashed into Damon near instantly, and with the strength of a meteor. Damon folded instantly, both he and the reflection stayed suspense for one beautiful and painful moment, before their bodies resumed motion. They caved into the walls just behind them.
It had only been a mere two seconds since the reflections attacked the hole where Anastasia had been launched into till the moment both Damon and his reflection caved into the walls.
"Fall." Without hesitation, the ninth reflection swung his sword at the red blur. The air collapsed in on itself creating a vaccum of extreme pressure in the direction the reflection swung his sword.
However, the red blur disappeared from the reflection’s vision entirely as his attack devastated what was left of the arena. Not a moment later, the reflection felt his head separated from his head, before shattering into motes of light.
The red blur vanished from one end of the arena to the other so fast it looked like teleportation. But the movement weren’t for naught. Anastasia was moving to eliminate the reflections she had knocked away earlier, and she did eliminate two, then blurred straight to the hole Damon and the last reflection got embedded into.
However, just short of the hole, eight reflections suddenly materialized before the hole in a protective formation, halting Anastasia’s progress. And just from looking at them, Anastasia was certain they were the just as strong as the last few ones she had eliminated.
Meanwhile, inside the hole, Damon coughed up a mouthful of blood, as his reflection got off him. He was sure as hell he had broken more than a few bones. Even wincing from the pain, sent sharp jolts of even more pain through his throbbing body.
"Why wouldn’t she just stay the fuck down?" Damon cursed. Things had happened so fast he couldn’t react. Anastasia was way more powerful than he gave her credit for.
Outside, Anastasia’s disheveled figure, still shrouded in her scarlet aura tilted her head. "You don’t think these much of you could defeat me do you?" she asked before she continued without giving Damon a chance to reply. "If you were also in the Theta- rank, then perhaps, even then, I wouldn’t say you’d beat me for sure, it’ll all come down to who could outsmart the other."
The eight Damons all smiled, so wide that it looked horrifyingly creepy. "We won’t know until we try now, will we?"
