Chapter 11 – The Ambition of King Anlius
Chapter 11 – The Ambition of King Anlius
Looking at the soft and adorable expression of the fox-eared girl, Su Nian's dragon heart trembled, and he couldn't help but scratch the ground with his dragon claw.
"Damn, so cute, aren't you afraid of being eaten!"
He snorted a breath of hot air from his nostrils and shook his head.
It's not like he hasn't tasted White Rabbit Milk Candy before, so there's no need to compete with this soft and cute fox-eared girl for it. Without hesitation, he nudged Anna's hands back with his dragon nose, indicating that he didn't want it.
Though, when he nudged her hands back, he couldn't resist rubbing against them a bit.
Hehe, these little hands are really soft...
After a busy night, he was already a bit tired.
The juvenile dragon was at a critical stage of growth and development; he should be eating and sleeping more. Now, having to take care of an elf girl had already worn him out.
Seeing that Anna's condition was basically stable, he no longer hesitated and, following his instincts, curled up beside Anna and fell into a deep sleep.
"Mr. Dragon?"
Anna stared blankly at Su Nian, who fell asleep just like that, and after a moment, her expression gradually softened.
Looking at the plump white candy in her hand, she couldn't resist taking another small bite, and then stuffed the remaining three-quarters into Su Nian's mouth.
It's really sweet...
She squinted her eyes in happiness once more.
Although Su Nian was doing his best to heal her, she knew her own situation. It wasn't a disease but a curse from the abyss. Who could save her from the hands of demons?
In the end, she was destined to die.
But being able to taste such sweet candy before dying, Anna felt she was a lucky person.
The cold wind started blowing outside the cave again, and she hugged her icy feet tightly, curling up next to the Black Dragon.
A trace of warmth emanated from the massive creature beside her, making her feel inexplicably reassured.
Anna covered two-thirds of the bear skin over Su Nian's belly—though it could only cover a little bit—and wrapped the remaining third around her frostbitten feet, finally letting out a satisfied sigh.
She murmured softly:
"Goodnight, Mr. Dragon..."
Anna and Su Nian often experienced dragonification when together, showing partial dragon-like traits, as shown in the picture.
...
Anrius Empire, Royal Palace.
"Still haven't found that Black Dragon?"
"Useless! What's the point of having you all?"
The bearded King of Anrius angrily pointed at the knight in front of him.
His finger was almost poking the knight's face, and the saliva from his mouth was enough to wash the knight's face.
The news of the Black Dragon's escape left him restless; how could he not be anxious when a cooked duck flew away?
King Anrius paced back and forth in the palace hall, getting angrier as he watched the pouring rain outside.
His Anrius was just a tiny country.
Within the entire nation, Tier 3 professionals were few and far between. Now, in the End of Magic Era, noble and rare mages were nonexistent.
To kill this detestable Black Dragon, he didn't hesitate to spend 3,000 Golden Lions to hire a Tier 3 fire mage from the neighboring Airilan Empire's border.
It was said that he was just a step away from breaking through to Tier 4 and becoming an even more powerful Archmage. With the cooperation of the army and city defense equipment, ambushing this dragon and having the mage finish it off was a great opportunity to kill this juvenile dragon.
And that wasn't all. To successfully lure that foolish Black Dragon, he also painfully purchased a diseased Half-Elf for 1,000 Golden Lions.
Today's Half-Elves were not the same as those from fifteen hundred years ago.
They were now of high status and extremely rare.
Any one of them could be sold for tens of thousands of Golden Lions.
If not for some Half-Elves choosing to return to the Elven Court back then, there might not be any Half-Elves left on the continent today.
Most of the Half-Elves had long followed Conqueror Emperor Xivi to ascend to the divine realm.
As for why he had to kill that Black Dragon.
King Anrius had his own unspeakable reasons.
His son, Prince Anrius, had issues with continuing the lineage. King Anrius had consulted many alchemists, and the final conclusion was congenital deficiency, which could only be completely cured by consuming Dragon Heart and Dragon Whip.
But dragons were incredibly rare.
The good and orderly Metallic Dragons mostly resided on Dragon Isle and were raised by dragon mothers.
As for the evil Chromatic Dragons, they were driven out of the nest early by dragon mothers, making them relatively easier to encounter.
But these Chromatic Dragons were each more cautious than the last, rarely appearing before reaching adulthood.
This made dragon materials extremely expensive.
They were even priceless.
A single Dragon Whip could fetch over ten thousand Golden Lions, not to mention the even more precious Dragon Heart.
Selling Anrius wouldn't fetch that much money.
Finally, a chance came, and a Black Dragon foolishly walked into his trap, coming to his territory to kidnap a princess.
King Anrius almost laughed himself to death, hurriedly pretending to be terrified and agreeing, promising to present a beautiful princess in three days. That foolish Black Dragon didn't suspect a thing.
Anrius had no princess, just a prince.
So, King Anrius painfully bought that terminally ill Half-Elf to set a trap, but the Black Dragon still escaped.
"What did Master Mesent say?"
King Anrius, holding back his anger, turned to inquire the knight who had been sprayed with his saliva.
"Master Mesent, he, he said the Black Dragon has already crossed the Morrigan Plains and entered the Silvermoon Forest. The Black Dragon is just at the juvenile stage and not very strong, so it can't possibly go deeper into the Silvermoon Mountains."
"But using the Tracking Spell Array is very exhausting in terms of energy and magical materials, so..."
"So what?"
"So... so Master Mesent means we need to pay more..."
The knight cautiously glanced at King Anrius, noticing his face growing darker, and quickly took two steps back without a trace.
"Greedy vampire! Damn it! Doesn't he see what little money my small country has? It's not even as big as a marquisate in Airilan. I've already given him three thousand Golden Lions, three thousand!"
King Anrius's face turned red with anger, saliva spraying everywhere.
But then he thought of his son, who drowned his sorrows in alcohol every day and was in worsening health, and couldn't help but sigh, compromising:
"Give him another five hundred Golden Lions, that's all there is. If he doesn't want it, then forget it."
"Uh... Your Majesty?"
"What else is there?!"
"What if Master Mesent requests military cooperation?"
"Then agree to it."
...
Moments later, the knight walked out of King Anrius's palace with a sullen face.
He didn't know what King Anrius had eaten that night, but his face was now covered in a foul stench, making the knight feel nauseated.
"Truly disgusting! Emperor Xivi above, please bless this damned king to never have another son!"
The knight cursed under his breath.
He strongly suspected that the prince's inability to procreate might be due to the king's genetic issues, and perhaps, the prince wasn't even the king's child.
After all, he had secretly seen the queen meeting with the king's knights more than once.
And he was one of them.
