A roar from the fifth serpent cut through my thoughts, signaling the start of its next attack. It lunged at me with terrifying speed, its massive jaws snapping open, aiming for my neck. I twisted in midair, my wings folding slightly to let me dodge to the left. The serpent’s jaws snapped shut just inches away from me, missing their target by a hair.

Before I could regain my balance, the fourth serpent lunged at me from the other side. Even though it had hesitated before, as if it knew it couldn’t win this fight, it was still determined to attack. I roared back, as if telling them both to back off, to surrender. But my roar fell on deaf ears. They were relentless.

’Fine,’ I thought, my frustration growing. ’You want to fight? Let’s fight.’

I couldn’t afford to use my fire skills, too dangerous with the convoy still nearby. Instead, I shifted tactics, focusing on low-impact abilities that could neutralize the serpents without causing too much collateral damage.

I whipped my tail around and summoned a surge of telekinetic force. The air around me shimmered as I focused my power on the fourth serpent, pushing it away before it could reach me. The creature snarled in confusion as it was flung backward, struggling to regain control of its flight. But I wasn’t done. With a flick of my claws, I summoned Ice Lances, sharp crystalline shards of ice that formed in the air around me. With a roar, I launched them at the fourth serpent, aiming at its wings and body.

The lances hit their mark, freezing patches of the serpent’s scales as it roared in pain. Its wings stiffened from the cold, making it harder for it to maneuver. I could see the ice creeping up its body, slowing it down, weakening its movements. But still, it didn’t retreat. It pushed forward, desperate to continue the fight even though it was clearly outmatched.

’Why are you so damn stubborn?’ I thought, roaring again in frustration as if demanding an answer from them.

The fifth serpent wasn’t deterred by the sight of its companion struggling. Instead, it used the distraction to its advantage, lunging at me with renewed ferocity. Its jaws snapped at my tail, and I only just managed to whip it out of reach in time. I retaliated with my Thunder Orb skill. Crackling spheres of electricity hurled toward it. The orbs hit the serpent square in the chest, sending a surge of lightning through its body.

The fifth serpent roared in pain, its body convulsing as the electricity coursed through it, but it didn’t stop. Its eyes burned with fury, and despite the damage, it continued its assault. I could feel its hatred, its desire to overpower me, to take down the convoy. But why?

Meanwhile, the fourth serpent, struggling with the ice coating its wings, attempted another attack. I turned my gaze toward it, summoning another Thunder Orb skill and hurling it at the creature. The orb exploded on impact, sending arcs of lightning through the serpent’s body. Its muscles seized, its wings faltered, and with a final roar, it plummeted toward the ground, unable to sustain flight any longer.

But even as the fourth serpent fell, the fifth remained. It circled me with focus, its movements slower now but no less dangerous. I roared at it again, my voice booming across the sky, demanding it back down, to surrender. But the serpent’s eyes, filled with fury, told me it wouldn’t. It was going to fight until the very end.

’What is driving you?’ I thought, baffled by its persistence. Most creatures would have fled by now, knowing they were facing something far stronger. But this serpent, this leader, seemed fueled by something more than instinct.

It lunged again, and I dodged, using my wings to propel myself upward, gaining altitude.

I summoned another Ice Lance, this time targeting the fifth serpent’s wings. The lance struck true, freezing one of its wings mid-beat. The serpent roared in frustration, struggling to stay airborne. I followed up with a second Thunder Orb, hitting the serpent in the chest again. Lightning crackled across its scales, and for a brief moment, the creature faltered.

Still, it still didn’t fall...

I hovered in the air, wings beating steadily as I kept my eyes locked on the fifth serpent. Its chest heaved, its movements sluggish, but it was still standing, no, still flying. Even with the Ice Lance lodged in its wing and the electricity from my Thunder Orb crackling across its scales, it wasn’t backing down. But something had changed. The fiery hatred in its eyes had dimmed, replaced by something else. It was hard to pinpoint what exactly, but the fight, the raw aggression, it was no longer there.

I roared again, my voice echoing across the sky, commanding the serpent to leave. The message was clear. ’Stop this. Don’t push your luck. Get out while you still can.’

But to my surprise, the serpent responded with another roar, though weaker than before. It wasn’t filled with anger or intimidation this time. In fact, it didn’t sound like a challenge at all. There was something different about it, something that caught me off guard.
