The Devil Who Claimed Me

Chapter 99: I know your secrets

Chapter 99: I know your secrets

The next day...

At the clinic...

When Mila stepped into the restroom, a hand suddenly grabbed her arm and yanked her toward the back of the clinic.

"What the hell is this?" Mila hissed, struggling. "Let go of me, or I’ll shout."

The woman spun around, but her grip remained firm on her arm. "Then shout. I’ll also tell everyone you hurt my son."

"Excuse me?" Mila frowned, irritation flashing in her eyes. She jerked her arm free. "I’ve never seen someone this ungrateful. I saved him. And instead of thanking me, you’re accusing me?"

"Stop pretending," the woman snapped. "I spoke to my son. He said a woman gave him chocolate. He didn’t know it had nuts in it."

Her voice deepened with certainty. "Who else could it be if not you?"

Mila stared at her with disbelief.

"You targeted him on purpose," the woman continued. "If you have a problem with me, face me directly. Why drag an innocent child into this?"

Mila’s thoughts flickered to Dominic’s words from the night before.

He had admitted arranging an ’accident’ for the woman.

Had someone tried to lure the boy to bring the woman out... and it had gone wrong?

But Mila pushed the thought aside. Now wasn’t the time.

"Before throwing accusations, try verifying your facts," Mila said coldly. "I don’t even know you properly. How would I know about your family members? I didn’t know you had a son."

The woman didn’t believe a word she said. "If it wasn’t you, then who?" she pressed. "You are the only one who knows what I do."

Mila sneered at her confidence. "You really are so naïve."

She wished she could tell her Dominic had known everything about her. But the time had not come yet.

Once his mission was accomplished, everything would be revealed. The moles would be eliminated one by one.

"You think I can roam around freely and find your son?" she said sharply. "A guard follows me everywhere. Use your brain. Someone probably gave him chocolate without knowing about his allergy."

The woman frowned, doubts seeping into her mind.

"Use your brain," Mila muttered. "Someone might have given your son a chocolate without knowing he is allergic to nuts. Instead of blaming me, you should go and find out who the person was."

Before leaving, she dropped a chilling warning, "Instead of blaming me, find the real culprit."

Then her tone turned icy. "And don’t forget what I told you. Dominic is planning to destroy your boss. If he succeeds, think about what that means for you and your family."

She shoved past her and walked back inside.

The woman stood frozen, chills prickling across her skin.

"No... no..." she muttered, panic rising. "I have to do something before it’s too late."

She hurried away, unaware of the eyes watching her every move.

When she came a little away from the clinic, she dialed a number.

"Hey, listen carefully. There is intel. Dominic has launched a secret mission. He is planning something dangerous against the boss."

"Understood. I’ll pass it on."

The line went dead.

Her heartbeat pounded wildly. Mila’s warning echoed in her mind.

"This is getting dangerous... We can’t stay here anymore. We have to leave."

Before she could take a step, someone hit her from behind. Her vision went black. She collapsed to the ground.

Valentina stepped forward, her expression cold and merciless. She had been waiting for this moment since the day before. It was she who had given the boy chocolate, telling him to call his mother out. But she didn’t know the boy was allergic to the nuts.

"Fucking mole," she muttered under her breath. "Dared to betray Dominic? You are dead."

She hauled her away.

Inside the clinic...

Mila had barely stepped in when Remy approached her.

"There you are," he said softly. "It’s almost lunchtime. Let’s go eat."

Mila hesitated. She thought she should maintain some distance from him.

"I think I’ll head back to the mansion," she replied.

"What happened? Are you not feeling well?" Concern flashed across his face.

"No... I’m fine," she said quickly. "There is not much work today. I just want to rest. If anything comes up, call me. I’ll come back."

Remy felt a bit disappointed. He wanted to stop her, to say something more, but he didn’t.

"Alright," he said instead, forcing a small smile. "Go rest. I’ll handle things here."

"Thanks." With that, Mila left.

Remy stood there, watching her leave, his chest tightening.

’Mila, are you really comfortable here?’ he thought. ’If you are not, just say it. I’ll do anything in my power to take you away.’

Mila returned to the mansion. She was heading toward her room when Valentina appeared and blocked her way.

"It’s been a while. How are you doing?" Valentina asked, a sly glint in her eyes.

She had pretended to leave the island for work but had been sneakily following Mila and that spy. Now she had gathered enough evidence against Mila. Soon, she would expose her.

Mila faked a smile. "I’ve been great, actually. It was peaceful without you around. No one to annoy me."

Valentina’s expression stiffened. "You..."

Her hands itched to slap her. But she held herself back at the last minute.

’Soon, your game will be over.’

Her smile returned, sharper this time. "Yes... You’ve been enjoying yourself." She stepped closer and leaned in, whispering in her ear, "I know everything about you. Your little secret."

Mila’s heart sank. For a brief moment, fear tightened her chest. She thought Valentina might have found out about her connection with Marco.

"What? Surprised?" Valentina smirked. "You thought you would hide it forever, and no one would know."

Mila’s heart raced further. She believed Valentina had discovered something about her. She was afraid she would do something against her. But then she thought she had not kept anything hidden from Dominic.

’Why should I worry?’ she thought. ’I didn’t deceive him. Instead, I’m helping him.’

The tension in her posture eased. "What do you mean?" she asked. "Say it clearly if you have something to say."

She was ready for the confrontation. She had nothing to fear.

Valentina’s smile froze. She watched her, expecting panic. But she saw only confidence.

How could she be so fearless after what she had done?

This thought only irritated her further.

"You are so sure that no one will find out about your little secret," Valentina snarled. "How foolish you are. Nothing stays hidden."

"I have no secrets," Mila said firmly. There was no trace of hesitation, not even a hint of fear. "I am sure you have mistaken something."

"Humph..." Valentina snorted. "I haven’t. I know about your secret affairs with Dr. Remy."

She quirked her lips into a sly smile.

Mila’s expression faltered. She had not expected this. "What?" she exclaimed. "What nonsense are you spouting?"

Valentina sneered. "You thought you could cheat on Dominic and use that doctor to get out of here. So naïve."

Her voice dropped, cold and threatening. "You and your lover will pay for it. Just wait. When Dominic returns, I’ll expose everything."

With that, she walked away.

Mila stood rooted in place, her breath uneven. Cold fear crept through her.

Dominic was jealous, possessive, and dangerous. If Valentina twisted this the wrong way, he might hurt Remy.

"No..." she whispered, shaking her head. "I have to talk to him."

She turned toward the study, then stopped.

He wasn’t there. He had left early this morning. Maybe he was preparing for the mission.

Her chest tightened.

"I’ll wait," she murmured. "When he comes back, I’ll explain everything. He’ll understand. He has to."
