Chapter 88: Jiang is missing.
Chapter 88: Jiang is missing.
A few days later...
Dominic brought Mila back to the mansion. "You’ve been discharged, but you are not fully recovered," he reminded her. "Don’t forget what the doctor said. You need proper rest."
Mila nodded. "I know how to take care of myself. Don’t worry. You should keep yourself busy."
Dominic leaned in closer to her. "Why do I feel like you’re trying to push me away?" he murmured, his breath warm against her skin. His finger traced slowly along her arm. "I can stay with you if you want."
Mila gently pushed him back. "You’ve already stayed with me these past few days. Don’t you have things to handle?"
"I am the boss. And I don’t have to run around everywhere all the time. A phone call is enough to make things happen."
"I know everyone respects you and follows your commands. But you should look around closely. You have to find out who else is working with the enemy."
Dominic nodded understandingly. "Yes." His eyes darkened. "I need to identify the traitors. But..."
When he looked back at her, a teasing glint flashed in his eyes. "At night, I want your full attention. No pushing me away."
He leaned in, the tip of his nose brushing her cheek.
Mila’s face warmed at the contact. "You should go now," she said, pressing her palms lightly against his chest.
"I’ll leave. But I want to do this." He caught her hands and pulled her into his arms. Holding her in her place, he kissed her.
The kiss was not fierce like before. It was gentler, deeper, and more consuming. His hold on her tightened, one hand sliding up to cradle the back of her neck, tilting her just the way he wanted.
The air between them burned with a heat neither of them could ignore.
Mila melted into him, her lips moving against his with a growing urgency.
Dominic let out a soft groan against her mouth, as if her response unfurled something feral inside him. He deepened the kiss.
"Do you have any idea what you do to me?" he muttered, his voice rough against her lips. "You turn me into something else."
He kissed her again, harder this time.
Whatever control he had been holding onto snapped. Mila responded instantly, her lips moving against his with a growing urgency that matched his own.
It was clear they both needed each other. The air turned heavier and hotter.
They forgot about their responsibilities, the dangers, and the enemies waiting in the shadows. The world outside the room seemed to fade away. Nothing mattered at that moment. All they wanted was this... each other.
Dominic slipped his hands under her dress, touching her, feeling her.
Mila’s fingers clutched onto him. Her thoughts blurred under the intensity of his touch. A small part of her wanted to stop him—to remind him that he had to go to work, that this wasn’t the time. But the words never came.
The heat, the closeness, the way he held her... it all tangled her senses. Nothing else seemed important. All she wanted was to stay in this moment, to hold onto him, to feel him just a little longer.
Their resistance crumbled, piece by piece.
Dominic dropped his head to her breastbone, taking her nipple into his mouth.
Mila gasped and arched her back. Sensations coursed through her body. She no longer wanted to hold back. She wanted nothing but to surrender to this moment.
Just as they were about to lose themselves completely, a knock echoed through the room.
Both of them froze.
The sound shattered the moment, dragging them back to reality. Dominic’s jaw tightened, frustration flashing across his face as he glared at the door.
"Who is it?" he barked, his breath still uneven.
"It’s me," came Lucas’ voice from the other side of the closed door. "I need to talk to you."
Mila steadied herself. "You should go..." she said softly. "I’ll wait for you."
Dominic didn’t move. His gaze lingered on her.
He didn’t want to leave yet. He wanted to stay, to finish what they had started.
"Are you coming?" Lucas’s voice sounded again.
"Go," Mila urged.
Dominic exhaled and stepped back. "Coming."
With that, he left.
His expression was dark when he came out of the room. "What is it?"
"Mr. Lee called," Lucas said in a low voice. "His elder son, Jiang, is missing."
Dominic frowned. "Missing? Are you sure he hasn’t just gone out with friends?"
"He is not with them," Lucas replied. "No one has seen him. His phone is switched off."
Dominic turned solemn. ’Where could he go?’ he wondered in his mind.
"After they had dinner with you, Jiang left for some work," Lucas explained. "But he never came back."
Dominic looked at him suspiciously. "Then why didn’t Mr. Lee mention this during the syndicate meeting?"
"He thought Jiang would come back," Lucas explained. "But it’s been nearly a week now. He believes something has happened. He suspects Marco or Victor may be involved. They might have kidnapped him or worse, killed him. He is asking for your help."
Dominic said nothing. ’Jiang is missing. And there is a mole here. Marco threatened Mila... This can’t be a coincidence.’
"They are targeting families of syndicate members," Lucas added. "We need to act fast."
Dominic thought for a while. He wasn’t sure whether Jiang had been kidnapped or had gone missing on his own. He needed to find out about it first before launching a rescue operation.
"Come to the study," he said, already walking toward the study.
Lucas followed him.
At Mila’s room...
The door knocked again.
"Come in," Mila said.
She expected a maid, but instead, Remy walked in.
"Remy?" A surprised smile appeared on her lips.
Without saying a word, Remy crossed the room and hugged her.
Mila stiffened, every muscle of her body tensing.
Remy closed his eyes, holding her tightly in his arms. In that moment, all he wanted was to take her away to a place where no one could hurt her.
Mila gently pulled away, forcing a small, awkward smile. "Remy... what was that?"
He hesitated, words failing him. He had already fallen for her, and he wanted to confess. But he couldn’t gather his courage to say it.
"I-I was worried," his words faltered. "When I heard you were... in the hospital, I rushed there. You were unconscious."
"You came?" she asked, surprised.
She thought it was only Dominic who was around.
He nodded. "I wanted to stay, but Dominic said he would take care of you."
At the mention of Dominic, Mila smiled. "He did. He stayed with me the whole time."
Remy noticed the way her eyes lit up when she spoke about Dominic. That alone told him everything.
There was no place for him in her heart. The realization stung, but he forced a smile.
’As long as she is safe and happy, that’s enough.’
"Why are you still standing?" Mila’s voice snapped him back to the present. "Sit down."
She gestured to the sofa.
Remy shook his head. "No. I won’t sit. When I heard you were back, I couldn’t stop myself from rushing here. Now that I know you’re fine, I can leave."
His eyes lingered on her. "I’ll head back to the clinic. Don’t come to work yet. Rest properly and recover first."
Mila chuckled and nodded.
Her smile made his heart tighten again. His fingers twitched as he wished to reach out and caress her cheek. But he suppressed the urge.
"I’ll leave now."
With that, he stepped out of the room and walked down the hallway.
Valentina paused in her tracks when she saw Remy coming out of Mila’s room. Her eyes narrowed as suspicions curdled her mind.
"What was Remy doing in Mila’s room?" she wondered under her breath. "Is something going on between them?"
