The Devil Who Claimed Me

Chapter 83: Mila is in danger.

Chapter 83: Mila is in danger.

Dominic was reviewing documents when his phone rang. His eyes remained on the file as he answered casually.

"Hello?"

"Boss, Miss Mila is in danger. You need to act quickly."

Dominic stiffened in his place. His gaze snapped to the caller ID. Only then did he realize it was the spy he had secretly assigned to watch Mila.

"What is going on?" he asked instantly, alarmed.

"It’s Madam Serene. She took Miss Mila away."

Dominic jumped out of his seat. "Where are you now?" he demanded.

"Madam Serene wanted to go shopping. So they came to the mainland. She brought Miss Mila along."

Dominic’s jaw tightened, fury rising fast.

Mila was not supposed to leave the island without his permission. How dare Serene take her out?

"I don’t know what happened," the man continued hurriedly. "But the car stopped suddenly. Madam Serene looked furious, and then she handed Miss Mila over to some men."

Dominic’s eyes darkened dangerously.

"Where is her guard? Why didn’t he inform me?"

"I think he was threatened," the spy replied. "I’m following them. I’ll send you the location. Please hurry."

Dominic ended the call and stormed out of the office.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Range Rover screeched to a halt in front of an abandoned warehouse.
Mila was dragged out roughly.
Her hands were tied behind her back, her mouth gagged. Her hair clung messily to her face, her eyes wide with terror.
"Mm—" she struggled helplessly as they hauled her inside.
The building was dark, dusty, and suffocating.
They shoved her down without care.
Mila hit the rough ground hard. Pain shot through her knees as they scraped against the floor. A whimper escaped her lips. Tears spilled uncontrollably.
Serene walked in slowly, her heels clacking against the floor. Her face showed no hint of sympathy.
"I gave you a chance," she said coldly, stopping in front of Mila. "You should have left obediently. But you chose to challenge me, to dream of taking what belongs to me."
She crouched down and yanked the gag from Mila’s mouth.
"Now you realize your mistake? You have to pay the price for crossing me."
Mila’s chest heaved, her breathing growing frantic and shallow. "Aren’t you afraid Dominic will find out?" she said defiantly, even though she was terrified. "He won’t let this go. He’ll come after you."
Serene snorted coldly. "Keep dreaming. He won’t even know. He’ll believe you ran away again. And by the time he realizes anything, you’ll already be dead."
Mila’s blood ran cold. She struggled against the ropes, the coarse fibers cutting into her skin. Blood came out, but she didn’t feel it. The fear that gripped her heart numbed all her pain.
"He will believe every word I say. And you think he will even look for you."
She flashed a malicious smile. "The woman he loves is me. You are nothing. Soon, he will forget about you."
Emotions tangled. Mila’s heart burned with helplessness, fear, and desperation.
"If you are so confident, why are you afraid of me?" she shot back. "Why go this far? Why do you need to lie to him?"
Serene’s expression faltered.
"It proves he no longer loves you," Mila continued. You are afraid he won’t take you back. And that’s why you want to kill me."
Serene’s fingers tightened into a ball, her anger surging.
"But this won’t make him love you," Mila continued. "He will never forgive you for hurting me."
That was enough. Serene slapped her hard.
Mila’s body collapsed to the floor. Her forehead hit the ground, her vision spinning.
"A woman who knows him only for a few days dares to challenge me?" Serene snapped. "What do you know about him? Do you know his likes and dislikes? Do you have any idea what makes him cringe? What’s his biggest fear? You know nothing."
Her voice rose with each word she uttered.
"And yet you think he would choose you over me?"
Mila’s heart trembled. A part of her knew it was true.
She had only spent a few days with him. She wasn’t familiar with many things about him. How could she be confident that he liked her?
"Your ambition is dangerous," Serene said. "But I know how to deal with a danger like you. Guards..."
She straightened and looked at the men standing behind her. "Teach her a lesson. Don’t let her die yet."
The men stepped forward.
Mila’s eyes widened in horror. She tried to crawl back.
"Don’t—don’t come closer," she yelled.
They didn’t stop. In a flash, they lunged over her and rained down slaps, punches, and kicks on her.
Mila’s cries echoed in the air, but they didn’t stop.
Serene stood there with her arms crossed, watching the scene. Her lips curled into a faint smile, but the resentment still burned in her heart.
’She dared to challenge me,’ she muttered inwardly. ’She thinks she can be with Dominic. That audacity.’
She clenched her jaw. ’He is my man. No one can be with him but me.’
On the other end, Dominic sat in the car, his entire body tense.
"Faster," he ordered coldly.
Every second felt unbearable. He was afraid something bad would happen to Mila.
His phone rang. When he saw the number, he answered the call instantly.
"Where are they?" he asked frantically.
"An abandoned warehouse in the northern province," the spy replied.
"Stay there. I’m coming." Ending the call, Dominic glanced at the driver.
Drive faster," he commanded.
Within minutes, he was there. He jumped out of the car, two bodyguards following him.
A thin man rushed over and bowed to him. "Boss, they are inside," he informed. "Just now, I heard someone crying. It’s probably Miss Mila."
Dominic didn’t respond. His eyes had already turned lethal. He pulled out his gun and stormed inside.
Mila’s cries reached his ears.
His blood boiled. He unlocked the gun and ran in the direction from where her cries were coming. When he saw a few men hovering over Mila, hitting her, he froze. The next moment, he fired.
Bang-Bang-Bang...
Gunfire exploded through the warehouse. In seconds, all the men who had been hitting Mila fell to the ground, writhing in pain.
Serene flinched and turned, only to be shocked. "Dominic?" she murmured in a daze.
’How could he be here?’ her mind screamed.
She had thought he wouldn’t find out. And even if he learned about it, she would have dealt with Mila already. She had even prepared a plausible excuse to make him believe that Mila had run away.
But Dominic was standing right in front of her, looking furious. He had even shot his own men. For Mila.
Shock and horror mixed, turning her face pale.
Dominic didn’t even look at her.
"Mila..." He rushed forward and dropped beside her. His hands trembled as he cupped her bruised face.
Mila couldn’t stop her tears from falling. "You came," she whispered.
His chest tightened. "Yes... I am here."
Mila curled her lips slightly. She parted her lips. "I thought I wouldn’t see you again..."
Her eyes slowly closed. Her body went limp as she drifted into darkness.
"Mila," Dominic cried.
