Chapter 71: Who asked you to touch my things?
Chapter 71: Who asked you to touch my things?
Mila trembled.
Facing Dominic’s dark expression, she felt as if the air had been sucked out of the room. His gaze alone was enough to suffocate her.
For a second, she truly thought he might kill her.
"Who asked you to touch my things?" he snapped.
Mila opened her mouth to explain. But fear had wrapped around her throat so tightly that no words came out.
"Get out."
Mila didn’t delay a second. She turned and rushed out of the room, her heartbeat pounding wildly in her ears. She didn’t look anywhere and headed straight to her room.
The moment the door shut behind her, she sucked in a sharp breath, her hand flying to her chest.
"He is so terrifying," she murmured under her breath. "How am I going to collect his secrets?"
Her back slid against the door as she slowly sank down.
If he ever discovered that she was betraying him and working for his enemy, he would kill her. Chills traveled down her spine.
"I can’t do it." Dread settled deep inside her. "It’s impossible."
Her eyes shut tightly.
Then Lara’s face flashed in her mind.
Her chest tightened painfully.
Could she watch her die? Could she live with that guilt?
"I’m sorry..." she whispered, her head dropping.
Bang-Bang-Bang...
The sudden pounding on the door made her flinch violently.
Her face turned pale instantly.
’Dominic? Why is he here? Is he going to punish me?’
"Open the door," came a familiar voice.
Mila froze for a second, then let out a small breath.
"It’s not him. It’s Valentina."
But that didn’t ease her completely. If anything, it brought a different kind of tension.
"What brings her here this time?"
She quickly stood up, smoothing her skirt before walking to the door.
When she opened it, Valentina stood there, a bag in her hand, her expression cold and unreadable.
"This is for you." She shoved the bag into Mila’s hands. "Get ready. You are going to the dinner with the boss."
"Uh?" Mila blinked in shock.
She had not expected Dominic would take her to the dinner.
"You might have mistaken," she said slowly. "I’m just his maid. Why would he take me to a dinner meeting?"
Valentina let out a mocking sneer. "If it were up to me, you wouldn’t even step out of this room."
Her eyes burned with hatred.
"You are a lucky bitch," she added through gritted teeth. "And we are just helpless—so helpless that we have to rely on you."
She stepped closer. "Dominic needs you in today’s meeting with Mr. Lee. Do your job properly."
Then her tone turned deadly cold.
"If you try to act smart, I’ll kill you myself. I won’t even wait for Dominic’s permission."
A chill ran through Mila’s entire body.
"And even if he kills me for it... I won’t regret it."
Without waiting for a response, Valentina turned and walked away.
Mila stood there, frozen, the bag still clutched in her hands.
Her mind echoed with one sentence—’Dominic needs you in today’s meeting.’
She understood why he needed her. There was no one here who knew Mandarin.
’So, he needs me as an interpreter. Nothing else.’
A thought sparked.
’This is my chance. If I pass the information to Marco, he may stop targeting Lara.’
Her heartbeat quickened. She quickly closed the door and went to get ready.
When Mila stepped out again, the guard informed her, "Mr. Russo is waiting in the hall."
"Thank you."
She hurried down the corridor. And then she saw him.
Dominic stood in the hall, phone pressed to his ear, his posture straight.
Mila slowed her steps slightly, her eyes narrowing faintly.
He wasn’t wearing the white suit she had prepared. Instead, he wore black.
Her lips pressed together. ’I skipped lunch for that...’
She felt a flicker of irritation. ’If he wouldn’t wear what I picked for him, why would he ask me to prepare his suit in the first place?’
She shook it off. ’Forget it. Black suits him. Just like his personality.’
She walked toward him, her heels clicking softly against the floor.
The sound made him turn. He froze.
For a brief moment, everything around him faded. His gaze locked onto her.
Mila stood there in an emerald green dress, the off-shoulder design added to her beauty. The fabric hugged her figure perfectly, accentuating her curves elegantly.
She looked breathtaking.
Dominic’s breath stilled. It wasn’t the first time.
Whenever he saw her dressed up, it felt new, irresistible. Even after all this, it had not changed.
His heart still beat faster.
"Mr. Russo, are you there?" The voice on the phone snapped him back.
"Let’s meet at the dinner."
He ended the call with that. His eyes returned to her immediately.
He almost said, ’You look beautiful.’
But instead, he said, "Don’t flatter yourself. I’m taking you because I’ve no choice."
He stepped closer. "Don’t take it for granted. If you mess this up, you will never get any freedom in this life."
Mila’s eyes widened, terror seeping to her bones.
"I’ll lock you up in the dungeon."
Mila’s eyes welled up with tears. "I won’t dare. I’ll behave."
"Good." He turned and walked out.
Mila followed him quickly, almost running to keep up with his long strides.
When he reached the car, she instinctively stepped closer.
He paused. "You are not getting into my car."
Mila blinked. "Then?"
He nodded toward another vehicle. "You go with the guards."
He stepped in and slammed the door shut more forcefully than necessary as if he were showing his frustration.
Mila flinched at the loud thud.
Inside his car, Dominic glanced at her through the mirror.
’Just ask me,’ he thought. ’Say you want to come with me. I’ll let you.’
But Mila said nothing. She simply walked to the other car and got in.
Dominic’s fingers curled onto his knees.
It took only a few minutes for them to arrive at the restaurant.
It didn’t take long to reach the restaurant.
Dominic stepped out first, adjusting his cufflinks, his expression composed. But his eyes were already searching for her.
Mila got out of the second car.
He watched her, expecting her to walk toward him, to stand beside him, and to hold his arm—like before.
But she didn’t. She followed the guards instead.
’This woman...’ His eyes darkened. ’Is she trying to provoke me tonight?’
He stormed in, intending to question him. But his steps came to a halt when he saw Mila standing beside Mr. Lee and smiling at another man.
That man extended his hand, and she took it.
