Chapter 82: Marriage Contract
Chapter 82: Marriage Contract
After a simple celebration at home, Lynn received a summons from Helena to enter the palace later in the afternoon.
The lady official who came to deliver the decree specifically mentioned that Xiya, Catherine, Vivian, and Little Youli were all on the summoned list. The decree did not mention Little Yuna, but Lynn took the liberty of adding her, thinking Helena would not mind.
After half a day of high-level meetings, it was unclear to what extent Helena grasped control of this vast empire. In this regard, Lynn couldn’t be of much help; however, when she needed to use force, he could lend his strength.
When Lynn, along with his wife and children, came to the Imperial City again, the bloody path he had carved earlier was gone, and there were no corpses littering the way. Yet, there was still a faint hint of blood in the air, which others might not detect, but Lynn knew Xiya would definitely sense it. Little Yuna’s keen nose might also pick up something.
Fortunately, the children couldn’t possibly guess what had happened here before. Even if they sensed something amiss, they wouldn’t think that their new father had committed a frenzy of slaughter here.
Upon seeing Helena again, she was no longer the enchanting Princess but Her Majesty the Empress, dressed in a bright yellow Imperial Robe and crowned with a dazzling crown.
Empresses had appeared in the history of the Eight Great Empires, so a princess ascending the throne was not considered a shocking event. However, Helena was the only one in the history of the Eight Great Empires who ascended to power after regicide in the Golden Hall.
Among those present during the regicide, Helena only executed the Late Emperor’s loyal confidants, sparing the princes and imperial consorts. Furthermore, with so many eyes in the Imperial Palace, Helena did not hide her tracks when she and Lynn entered the Golden Hall, thus the cause of the Late Emperor’s death and Helena’s involvement were not concealed.
Of course, it wasn’t that Helena couldn’t manage things perfectly; this was intentional on her part.
She wanted everyone to know that the immoral Late Emperor was judged and executed by her and Lynn, rather than dying naturally; she was the daughter who killed the emperor and father but could still rule the empire.
If anyone had any opinion about her actions, they were welcome to bring it up, and she would decide whether to resolve the problem or the person who posed it.
"Lord Lynn, sit by my side, and please, ladies, have a seat."
Within the Golden Hall, besides Helena and Natasha, only a few accompanying palace maids were present. Helena did not put on imperial airs, still addressing Lynn as ’Lord’ and referring to his women indiscriminately as ’sisters’.
However, she wasn’t sure how to address the two little girls, so she let the sisters who were more familiar with them take charge. Once everyone became well-acquainted, she’d take better care of these children she was raising before marriage.
"I feel your self-address lacks grandeur, unlike the emperors of my homeland who refer to themselves as ’I am’, implying the ruler of the world."
Following Helena’s invitation, Lynn unceremoniously sat on the Imperial Throne meant solely for the emperor, expressing his dissatisfaction with the title ’I am’. It lacked subtlety and sounded too direct and unrefined, with no majestic connotation.
"I’ll listen to you; afterwards, I’ll use ’I am.’ Come, the first thing I hurriedly called you for today is to have you sign this."
After everyone was seated, Helena hurriedly signaled Natasha to bring over a red booklet. If it weren’t for this, she wouldn’t have summoned Lynn to the palace so urgently.
She had countless matters to deal with at the moment, and it wasn’t yet time for forceful suppression; the time for Lynn’s prowess was at least three days away during the purge. Her current urgency was mainly related to a major diplomatic issue.
After hearing of Helena’s ascent to the throne... or rather declaring herself as emperor, the previously calm Light Empire envoys at the embassy abruptly approached, demanding that Helena, the Princess, now Her Majesty the Empress, fulfill the marriage contract with the Grand Duke of the Light Empire.
Although Helena had consistently delayed signing the marriage contract, it was arranged by her father long ago. The Light Empire had earnestly sent envoys. With Helena newly ascending the throne, she could disregard the matches her father hastily arranged, but the Light Empire was not an empire Celestial Destiny could easily offend.
Even with Lynn, the Miracle Saint Emperor, supporting her, Helena didn’t want to tear relations with the Light Empire without any buffer. After all, they had done nothing wrong; the marriage contract was entirely secured by her father fawning over the Light Empire, not their fault.
"What’s this? A marriage contract? How can I sign this with you now? Have you asked Vivian and Xiya?"
Taking the red booklet Natasha handed over, Lynn casually flipped through it, discovering a marriage contract without signatures, and immediately felt displeased.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to marry Helena, but these matters should have precedence in order. Today, he made historical progress with Xiya and almost secured Vivian’s first kiss. Although Catherine was still without progress, any of them were ahead of Helena, so how could she be the first to marry him?
"It’s just signing the marriage contract; the wedding won’t be held first. I have no intention to rush ahead, but the Light Empire requires a genuine marriage contract to deal with... Otherwise, your Helena will have to marry this person. Would you allow that?"
Helena elaborated on the matter of her father forcefully engaging her, explaining to Lynn and his women. She clarified that she wasn’t using her status to rush things but was pressured by the Light Empire.
If Lynn did not sign this blank marriage contract with her, she would have to sign the already signed marriage contract submitted by the Light Empire.
To prove the truth of her words, Helena showed Lynn the marriage contract provided by the Light Empire, pushing it towards Lynn with both hands.
"Really... Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, no one can force you. Even if I don’t marry you first, I won’t let you marry someone else... Uh, I think you and the Grand Duke of the Light Empire make quite a match. How about you engage with him first to deceive the Light Empire away?"
Lynn muttered as he took the marriage contract Helena handed him, casually flipping through it. Initially, his gaze was indifferent, but as he continued, his brows furrowed tightly.
Following this, Lynn uttered words that shocked Helena and Natasha, leaving them stunned, their expressions ghostly.
Wasn’t it agreed there would be no sending women? How did a marriage contract change his mind? Who is this Grand Duke from the Light Empire to compel the Miracle Saint Emperor to offer beauty willingly?
"Don’t look at me like that... Aren’t you familiar with these characters on the marriage contract? Let me teach you; these are called Chinese characters, from my homeland. The two characters in the signature are ’Lin’ and ’En.’ Got it?"
Lynn’s tightly furrowed brows relaxed instantly, looking at Helena, who had almost lost color, and Natasha, who nearly changed colors, speaking with a grin.
