Chapter 224 – The Twilight Hero

Chapter 224 – The Twilight Hero

The night dragged on as Japan reeled from the League of Villains' multiprong assault. Several key civilian infrastructure points had been destroyed. A hydroelectric dam, three major railway junctions, and even a few smaller bridges. Six hero agencies were levelled while their heroes were responding to other incidents, and two major police stations were raided; the villains destroyed vehicles in their parkades, then disappeared before the police could respond.

The worst was that Tartarus, the main villain jail in Japan, was utterly gutted, with the vast majority of the villains having escaped. Civilian casualties were fairly light given the amount of destruction wrought, but the same could not be said for the heroes and police forces. While the more powerful heroes had varying degrees of success in subduing the more powerful beasts that were unleashed, there were many mid-tier ones who had been hospitalized; some had outright been killed.

For John's part, after killing Stain and giving the cops a quick recount of the fight, he started healing people. Commandeering the back of the box truck that the L.O.V.E. agency had, he stripped himself of his hero suit and activated his armour, then had them bring the injured to him one by one. He only had so much mana, but he started popping the Substance X balls somewhat recklessly, allowing a slight boost in his mana regeneration.

Ochaco was the first on his list, followed by that other hero, then whoever was in the worst condition. Keeping it down to a single heal spell for most patients, he managed to get through the wounded in Hosu fairly quickly. The lead nurse at this charity organization then asked if he would be willing to come to another site, one that the overtaxed ambulance services hadn't yet been able to reach. He just nodded to her, his mana exhaustion starting to seep into his bones. He missed the quizzical look she had given his armour, too tired to care right then.

Rumi had gathered the girls, and they were dealing with the aftermath of the battle in the square; he hadn't been able to say more than a few words to her after she had shown up in the alleyway, not that there was much to say right now. Some people were injured, and others were still in dire situations. There would be time enough to talk later.

The protective side of me wants to take them all home, but it will be good for the students to see the reality of what they are signing up to do. Being a hero doesn't always end the moment the bad guys are in cuffs. I will need to chat with all three of them soon, make sure they are okay.

The crew of volunteers loaded the cots and other items into the back of the truck and offered John a seat up front, which he gratefully accepted. It wasn't long until they were off.

"It will be about an hour to get there by road, Twilight Knight. I hope that is okay with you." The beautiful purple-haired nurse said, putting the truck into gear.

"Yeah, that is fine. I need a nap anyway. Healing takes a lot out of me." He replied, then drifted off.

That is how the rest of his night went, being ferried around to several different locations where there were triage units set up, healing the injured from the attacks. It was daylight by the time they finished up, and John was dead on his feet. He was about to call a cab when the nurse asked him where he needed to go.

"Jaku City." He replied, leaning on the side of the van.

"Oh? That is where we are headed; our team is based out of Jaku. Do you want a lift?" She asked. She had a small smile on her lips, but otherwise had a stern expression.

Is that what they call resting bitch face? She looks like she's angry, but has been nothing but kind and professional all night. And her body, it's like Yu's, muscular yet curvy. Damn fine looking woman.

"If you don't mind. Oh, I'm sorry, we have been working together for hours now, and I didn't ask for your name." He said, trying to put the unwanted thoughts out of his mind.

"It's Kaina. Please, don't worry about it. You have been busy. Just hop in, and we will get you home." She replied, her small smile not reaching her eyes.

A strange vision entered his mind then. She was in a sultry secretary outfit, ready to serve her boss's every need. He shook his head. He really, really needed sleep.

"Thank you, I appreciate it."

Three Days Later

Still Unnamed Hero Agency

"I'm fine! Yu and Mei saved me, along with some of the staff from the school." Anan said, explaining to John what had happened to her a few days prior.

"Are you sure? Sorry, it's just a lot has been going on, and I'm just hearing about this now." He replied, then wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her in closer.

"Because we didn't want to worry you. You have been running yourself ragged, and we didn't want to add any more to your plate." Yu said, already snuggled into his other side.

"I told them not to tell you yet. So take it out on me if you must, but we were worried about you." Rumi added, sitting between his legs, resting her head on his belly.

The four of them finally managed to meet up this evening, the chaos of the last few days having kept them busy. Yu and Anan had taken Momo and Mei with them while they were doing cleanup operations at the railways, while Rumi had kept Ochaco and Tsui close while they stepped up patrols in the cities where there were a significant number of hero casualties.

Now that they were finally together, they were taking advantage of the massive hot tub they had installed on the second floor of the hero agency. They were all in swimsuits, as they were expecting the girls to join them shortly, but all three of them kept teasing little John a bit.

"Worried about me? Why?" He asked, confused. He was doing the least dangerous job of them all.

"You literally killed that man! Do you know how many pro heroes the Hero Killer had fought and either killed or maimed over the last few months? And you left him looking like a mummified corpse. Then you ran yourself ragged when you started on a tour to heal half of Japan." Rumi said. Her ears had been healed, and a small amount of hair had already started to grow back. He just finished massaging them with a little cream and his healing hands skill, taking the irritation away of the new hair breaking through her healed skin.

"Stop exaggerating. It was about a hundred people, give or take, not sixty-some million."

"Un hun. You made sure you healed every single injured person from the attacks, not to mention you stopped by the children's wards in those hospitals and healed all the kids. That is more than a hundred, John."

"Fine. I healed as many as I could. I couldn't just heal a few adults and leave sick and injured children to suffer." He replied. With the aid of his new contact at this L.O.V.E. Agency, Kaina, he managed to track down where all the injured were, allowing him to ensure everyone would survive. His spells were not some panacea cure-all, but they helped most of the people he used them on. He was hoping someday soon he would have the higher-tier spells that could cure almost everything, but that wasn't today.

L.O.V.E. was apparently a non-profit NGO that was supported by some trust-fund billionaires who wanted to help the needy within their own borders, rather than sending the money overseas. Kaina wasn't actually a nurse, but the manager at the facility they were building in Jaku. She seemed nice but was rather aloof; she was more interested in the numbers they helped than in actually helping, though he did catch that tiny smile of hers reach her eyes when he started healing children as well.

"I knew my Twilight Knight was a real hero," Anan said, snuggling closer. She reached behind Rumi and plunged her hand into his shorts.

"Anan..." He said as she cupped his sac, gently massaging his balls. Balls that were quite full due to lack of use over the last few days.

"No fooling around in the tub tonight. We are here to relax for a bit and congratulate the girls on a successful internship week." Rumi said, stopping Yu from joining Anan in a game of pocket pool. "Besides, you both live here now; we can have some fun almost anytime."

"Speaking of the Twilight Knight, why did you reveal yourself as him? You know that might cause you some issues." Anan said, withdrawing her hand from his shorts.

"The armour gives me some significant bonuses to using my healing magic, making my less costly spells act almost like my more powerful ones. Since I already showed it off on the night of the attacks, I figured the cat was out of the bag, so I might as well go all in with it. Besides, it saves me from having to come up with an actual hero name. If the police want to try to arrest me, well, I will deal with that when the time comes. One would think they would be too busy right now with actual villains and not concern themselves about me."

"Let's hope. Mother can probably help out a bit if it comes to that, but that is just a hell of a hassle. Have you heard from Midoriya?" Yu asked, toying with his chest hair instead.

"Yeah. All Might and that old mentor of his, Gran Torino, have been keeping him busy on patrols. We are going to set up times for him to come train at the dojo a couple of days a week to help him broaden his skills, as All Might is going to become a more active hero again. Also, the kids have the day off tomorrow, so he will be coming by at some point. Apparently, Nezu has a big staff meeting in the morning to discuss how he wants U.A. to move forward with the increased villain activity and compromised transportation system."

"Will you be quitting your job at U.A. as well to step into a pro hero role? You obviously have the power to do so." Anan asked. She was coming with him to the meeting, deciding to cut short her medical leave but take reduced hours at U.A. to focus more on clean-up and relief operations.

"No. I'm just one man. I might be stronger than some, but I only have a limited bag of tricks before I'm overpowered. Our best bet is to ensure the next generation is ready to help fight against these villains. If Twinkle wasn't busy chasing that thief around, I would ask her to step in and help." He said.

John talked with her on the phone for a few minutes the other day, when Kaina was driving him to another hospital. They had been chasing that dragon-thief all across the planet, the ball of chaos stealing everything from paintings in the Louvre to some puff pastries at a small bakery in Idaho. There was no apparent pattern she was following, seemingly just running amok in this world.

Just then, the girls walked into the hot tub room. They were all wearing swimsuits, from Ochaco's modest one-piece suit to Momo's fairly revealing bikini. She always showed as much skin as possible due to the nature of her Quirk, which needed space to pull things out of her body. As far as he could tell, she was actually a very modest and conservative girl by nature. Unlike a certain frog girl.

"Damn, I think I lost the bet. They are just hanging out in the tub. I was positive we were going to walk into an adult moment. *Ribbit*"

"Told ya. John or Rumi would send us away before they would mess around. Well, John would at least." Mei said with a little snicker. John was wondering what she had heard coming from Rumi's bedroom over the last week or so, but didn't dwell on it too long.

She better not be spying on us somehow.

"Good evening to you, too, Tsui. Everyone. Come on in and relax. We have a bit to discuss, but it's nothing too serious." John said, gesturing for them to sit on the other side of the tub. Yu and Anan moved slightly away from him, but Rumi remained planted between his legs. Her head rested just above the water on his torso, her ears relaxed and lying across his shoulders.

Led by Rumi, they all talked for the next twenty minutes, the pro heroes going over what they liked seeing during their internship, and things they could improve upon. John just soaked it all in, learning as much as these students were in some instances, in others, it just sounded like common sense to him.

I still think if they allowed regular people to defend themselves properly, they would see much less crime. Most of the villains I have fought so far wouldn't be able to dodge a bullet, though a few of them could have probably soaked up a couple of clips and just shrugged it off.

"Anything you want to add, John?" Rumi said, bringing him back into the conversation.

"I'm proud of you all. Mei, your drone was extremely helpful when I showed up in Jaku, as were those boots you made for Momo. Momo, Tsui, Ochaco, I don't know how you managed to find Tenya, but you extracted him and Native from a dangerous situation. That is one of the lessons I wanted to start teaching your class, and you already learned it well.

There is more to discuss about the follow-through and about extracting yourselves as well, but you did the best you could against overwhelming odds. I want to talk to you three individually soon about that night, but you should be proud of your actions. It's not my agency, but if you were of hiring age, I would want all of you back here for more training and a future job opportunity."

"Well, how about it, girls. Do you want to keep interning and training with us?" Rumi asked when he finished, sitting upright now. "A top five hero, a soon-to-be top ten hero, one of the best disaster relief specialists in the country, and another powerful hero who can heal almost any injuries you incur as long as you're not dead. Hell, maybe even if you were dead." She offered, then leaned forward. "I can even offer a small salary to each of you as long as you're joining us on patrols. It's not much, but from what I can see, you will be well worth the investment."

"YES!" Ochaco said immediately, jumping up in the tub. She slipped and fell into Rumi and buried her head between her breasts, pushing Rumi back into John. He chuckled at her enthusiasm once money was involved. Her parents were in serious financial trouble due to their failing business, and she wanted to help as much as she could.

"Well, I don't want to motorboat you, but I would love to train more under you if you'll have me. *Ribbit*"

"Of course. Mei and I are already working on a few projects; it would be silly to turn down that offer."

"Speaking of projects. I have something I want you two to check out soon. I don't know if you would be able to copy its design, but there is some serious tech inside of it that this world has never seen. We just need to find a really tall warehouse or something so I can bring it out without being seen. Ochaco, Tsui, you're welcome to look at it as well."

"Is it like your bike? Wait, a tall warehouse? Did you have a Gundam in your pocket this whole time?" Mei asked, eagerly leaning forward.

"What is a Gundam?"

"It's like a big robot you can pilot around."

John looked at her, confused for a moment, then laughed, "Well, it isn't called a Gundam, but yes. It's a big robot of sorts. I can't let you keep it, but the tech it's made out of can be used for a great many things. I figured if you and Momo take a- what?" He paused, noticing that every eye in the room was now on him.

"This whole time, you have had a Gundam, yet you have been trying to learn enough martial arts to beat me?" Rumi said.

"I can't always be driving a giant robot around. This one is pretty small, but it's still probably at least thirty feet tall*." John said, still unsure of which mech he had, but even the twenty-ton locust was about that height. "Besides, how else am I going to win your heart?"

"Dummy. You already have that. If you fought me like you fought that villain, do you think you would win?"

"I know I could win using my power in other ways, but that isn't the point. The point is to grow stronger. It's a marathon, not a sprint, remember?"

"Uh oh. Should we leave? Let you have your adult time? *Ribbit*"

"No!" They both said at the same time, then Rumi added. "If you keep that mouth running, your nice relaxing evening will become another training montage from hell."

"Don't threaten me with a good time. I'm ready whenever you are, Rabbit!" Tsui replied, sticking her tongue out a bit.

"Dojo in five minutes. Get ready, girls, cause every day is leg day with Rumi!" Rumi said, then started to chase the moaning teens out of the hot tub.

John just watched them, amused at their shenanigans. They had grown close over the last week, with Tsui bringing almost the same energy to their days that Rumi did. He kissed both Anan and Yu on the cheeks, cricked his neck a few times and stood up. He was almost ready to leave this world, but he wanted to get in a bit more training first. He wasn't sure when he would get this chance again.

* - Fun fact. Most mechs don't have a height listed in the wiki because their weird weights would make even less sense. They should weigh much more than what they are listed at, space materials or not lol.
