Book 3: Chapter 29: The Ultimate 5 of Synesthesia
Learning the 'Phantom Flying Sword' proceeded very quickly. After all, with the theory of 'Magic Hand Manipulation' as a foundation, understanding the simpler 'Phantom Flying Sword' became even easier.
After listening to this professor's explanation, Sylutia began constructing the spell model for 'Phantom Flying Sword'. In just over ten minutes, she successfully condensed the iron sand on the table into the shape of a sword and made it shuttle back and forth.
At this moment, Professor Maledor looked at Sylutia with even more admiration and fondness.
"You are very suited to learning this secret art. Why not come to me for further studies in the future?" He finally couldn't help but voice his recruitment offer.
"Thank you, but I still have many things to learn. I'm afraid I won't be able to come to Rorik College for the time being." She was indeed very interested in the skills of the 'Puppet Shadow School', but bound by her mission, she couldn't change her plans arbitrarily.
"That's true." The old man in front of her thought Sylutia meant she was only at the Second Tier, and advancing her tier was her primary concern now.
Afterwards, the two chatted for a few more minutes. The old man asked where Sylutia was from and who she had studied with before.
"My home is in Quebec, by Meteorite Lake. I once studied basic theory and some rune knowledge with Instructor Nox."
"Nox..." The old man thought carefully but couldn't recall this person. He was probably an ordinary mage. It was rare to teach such an excellent student, though it was more likely this young lady herself had great talent.
After teaching the 'Phantom Flying Sword', the two got up and left the Inheritance Room. Before parting, the old man handed Sylutia a business card and a brass badge."This is my business card. You can come to Rorik College to find me if you have questions in the future. As for that badge, it will allow you to enter and exit Rorik College."
"Thank you."
Sylutia took them and looked at the badge. The front was engraved with an open hand, while the back bore Maledor's signature and a date. With this badge, she could enter and exit the 'Research and Study Zone' of Rorik College for three years.
After coming out, Sylutia arrived at the main hall. The staff member asked her to wait a moment, as the transmission of the other secret art was almost ready.
"Hedra, how do you feel? Did you learn it?" The two seniors, seeing her come out, asked curiously.
"I've mostly learned it." The young girl nodded seriously.
"Can you demonstrate it?"
Unable to suppress their curiosity, they wanted to see the results of her learning. In truth, they also wanted to know what level the young lady, whom both professors thought highly of, actually possessed. Although they both held favorable feelings towards Sylutia, deep down they couldn't help but feel a bit of competitive spirit. After all, they were also the teacher's students, but back when they wanted to become apprentices, they had gone through fierce competition and rigorous assessment.
Sylutia, on the other hand, didn't think about all this. She fetched a small box of iron sand. As a faint halo of light appeared, the iron sand levitated, aggregated, and condensed, forming an iron sword that then began to rotate around her. To demonstrate her learning outcome, Sylutia even used a piece of wood as a target, using the iron sword to silently shave off a corner.
"Wow, that's truly impressive." The two exclaimed in surprised admiration.
Truthfully, they had also learned this art quite easily, but the speed of their mastery definitely wasn't as fast as Sylutia's, especially since it had been less than two hours.
Being surrounded by the two enthusiastic seniors asking all sorts of questions, Sylutia felt dealing with them was even more difficult than listening to Professor Maledor's theoretical teachings earlier.
After quite a while, the staff member finally came over and notified her to go learn the next secret art.
"Alright, I'll go right now." Sylutia immediately stood up, apologized to the two, then quickly left, following the staff member to another Inheritance Room.
"This is the room. You can go right in. Professor Fucalin is already waiting for you inside." This time, the staff member only escorted her to the door.
"Okay." Sylutia pushed the door open and entered. A woman with chestnut-red, shoulder-length short hair had her back turned, taking a freshly boiled pot of tea off the stove.
"Hello, I am Hedra." Sylutia approached and introduced herself.
"Hello." The other party turned around holding the teapot, set out teacups, and then slowly poured the tea.
Watching her movements, Sylutia felt a sense of delicate leisure, yet also a faint, illusory sensation. It was as if this person in the world had colors slightly fainter than her surroundings.
After pouring the tea, the other party sat down and gave a simple self-introduction.
"My name is Fucalin. What I will impart to you today is the 'Sensory Link Technique'." She picked up her teacup and spoke slowly.
"This is an extremely widely applicable skill, and it is also something mid-to-high-tier mages of the Puppetry School must learn."
"As the name implies, its function is to connect sensations, allowing your puppet or marionette to become part of your sensory organs, thereby enabling better command and control, and observation of more things."
"The realization of this effect relies on the Aspect of 'Secret Word' for recording and transmitting information. I wonder how deep your understanding of the 'Secret Word' Aspect is?"
Many outsiders, especially organizations outside the Mage Alliance, simply view Transcendents of the Secret Word Aspect as a group of scholars with exceptionally good memories. But in reality, what the 'Secret Word' Aspect can achieve is far more than just recording words in books." She shook her head.
"Memories, experiences—these things not only shape a person's character and way of handling matters. History and legends also shape the culture of a nation, even a race."
"If the Castle Aspect constructs the realistic foundation of royal authority, then the 'Secret Word' Aspect shapes the spiritual consensus of nations and organizations."
After speaking of these grand, magnificent concepts, returning to the individual: if the marionette you control can share its visual sensations with you, and you can also remotely command it to complete various tasks, then this marionette is essentially your doppelganger, a part of your body."
An individual is inherently bound by many limitations and shortcomings. For example, you only have one pair of eyes, two hands, confined to this single body. Even high-tier Transcendents find it difficult to complete multiple complex tasks simultaneously. This is not only inefficient but also a squeeze on life itself, because you are forced to spend most of your time handling numerous mundane tasks, unable to fully immerse yourself in the career and path you love."
"In order to liberate life from heavy, tedious work, to broaden the boundaries of life, and to attain greater freedom, the various schools of the Mage Alliance have made various efforts. The 'Sensory Link Technique' you will learn today is also a skill born from the extension of this philosophy."
The other party didn't start by explaining the secret art directly. Instead, she first expounded to Sylutia the ultimate ideals of the Mage Alliance and the 'Puppetry School', and only then, within this main framework, extended to explain the origins of the secret art to be learned.
After saying all this, the other party finally revealed a hint of an amused smile.
"So, what do you think the ultimate form of the Sensory Link Technique would be?"
