The Cornflower Witch

Book 3 The Harmonious Trio

Book 3 The Harmonious Trio

Asra District, new student registration office.

A girl wearing a pink ruffled skirt sat in the car, waiting for her maidservant to bring back her registration receipt and accommodation assignment.

"Miss, it's all taken care of." Half an hour later, after queuing, spending considerable time proving identity, and going through various procedures, the maidservant finally obtained the required documents.

The girl inside fanned herself with a silk folding fan, then took the items from her hand, giving them a brief glance.

"They actually assigned me to Narcissus Street." She frowned unhappily and directly threw the documents aside.

The maidservant beside her hurriedly picked up the receipt and assignment letter, not daring to say a word.

"Take me to Aunt's house. Move my things there too."

"Yes, Miss." The driver in front started the bulky steam vehicle, then turned the wheel.

An hour later, surrounded by a group of servants, the girl arrived at a luxurious mansion with an independent courtyard. The rooms inside were resplendent and magnificent.

Finding the lady of the house, she threw herself into the other's arms, acting spoiled, then complained about being assigned to a poor living place. "I've heard about it. Narcissus Street was built fifty years ago. Who knows if it's crawling with mice and leaking water now. They actually assigned me there."

"Aunt, I don't want to go. Can I just stay at your house?" She shook the arm of the plump noblewoman opposite her.

The other inquired in detail, then took the receipt handed over by the maidservant and flipped through it.

"Narcissus Street, number 109... This should actually be one of the best accommodation conditions for new students." She was more knowledgeable about the situation.

"It is indeed quite ordinary. After all, there are too many new students, and the accommodation fees are provided by the Alliance's finances, so naturally they can't supply very good places."

"It's fine, Hu Tao. You can stay at Aunt's house. As for the school side, I'll have someone communicate and get their approval."

"Thank you, Aunt~" The girl immediately became happy.

....

On the other side, until the sky gradually darkened, Sylutia and her other two roommates still hadn't waited for their final companion, so the group decided to go out for dinner.

According to the dormitory administrator's introduction, there were quite a few bakeries around where they could buy bread to stave off hunger. Of course, if they had money, they could directly go to better restaurants.

With Lovier, the wealthy young lady, present, the three chose a restaurant not far from the dormitory building.

Entering, they found many new students already gathered there, chatting and dining. Both the first and second floors were full of people.

"So lively." Lovier held a folding fan with thin velvet lace, slightly covering her face, fanning away the various smells of food and people in front of her.

"Is there still space upstairs?" She summoned a waiter to ask.

"The very top floor has space, but the prices will be very expensive." The waiter looked at the young lady's attire and answered respectfully.

"Take us there."

"Certainly." The waiter immediately guided the three up the stairs to the very top, the fourth floor.

There were still quite a few empty seats here, fewer guests, and the air was fresher.

"This is the spot." The three found a seat by the window and sat down. Lovier's intricate, gorgeous dress spread over the seat, the various pendants and ornaments on her body like seashells and starfish on a beach.

Next came the ordering. Lovier seemed curious and fascinated by every dish on the menu she hadn't tried before. Aurora only ordered a 'Rye Crisps' as a simple staple. Sylutia ordered a 'Garlic Roasted Porcini' and a 'Sweet Fragrance Bread'. Lovier looked at the menu and ordered 'Honey Roasted Deer Meat' and 'Almond Milk Jelly'.

"There are so many more I want to try, but Mother said if I'm not restrained, my body will get fat and not look good." Lovier put down the menu with some regret.

After that came the moment for the girls to wait and chat.

"I'm from Aira Fonti in the Harp Flower Union. Many beautiful flowers bloom there. My family specializes in the flower shop business." Lovier introduced herself.

Flower shop business? Sylutia thought. If it were just one or two ordinary flower shops, they definitely couldn't support a young lady like Lovier. She guessed Lovier's family was probably a local monopoly-level wealthy family.

At this moment, Sylutia noticed the goose-egg-sized golden gemstone on Lovier's chest, engraved with very fine patterns. Looking closely, it should be a special type of lily.

"Lovier, the gemstone on your chest is your family emblem, right?" Sylutia asked curiously.

"Ah, this? Yes, it is my family emblem. It's the 'Radiance Lily', a rare flower that emits a halo." Lovier lightly pressed the gemstone with her finger, and a soft halo of light diffused from it.

Even without deep knowledge of gemology, Sylutia could tell this was definitely no ordinary item. It probably concealed Fourth Tier Aspect power, but it employed excellent light-suppression techniques, suppressing the emitted aura to below Second Tier.

In this world, generally only the royal families of kingdoms used flowers as family emblems. Even if Lovier's family wasn't royalty, they should be a wealthy family of equivalent status. Even the former Regas royal family in the past could only use fir trees as their family emblem, not flowers.

After talking about Lovier, it was Aurora's turn.

"I'm from the Greater Airo District. I don't have any special talents; I just like dolls." After saying this, Aurora lowered her head and continued gently stroking the fluffy doll in her arms.

"Did you make this yourself? It's very cute." Lovier looked at the doll in her arms with fresh curiosity in her eyes.

"No, Father made it." Aurora shook her head.

"The ones I make... are not good." She answered briefly.

"Ah, it's okay. You'll definitely be able to make cute dolls in the future." Lovier cheered her on.

Finally, the topic came to Sylutia.

"Hedra, what about you?"

"I'm from 'Quebec' by Meteorite Lake. It's a place with gentle sea breezes, and the pears produced locally are quite delicious." Sylutia recalled.

"Quebec? I think I've heard of it." Lovier tried to remember.

"Right, people in my family told me before that the port development there is very good, and they could consider opening a new shop there."

With Lovier's active participation, the conversation among the three gradually picked up. Later, even when the food arrived, they didn't stop talking, though Lovier spoke the most, occupying about sixty percent of the conversation. Sylutia took up about thirty percent, and Aurora only about ten percent.

After enjoying the delicious food, the three walked downstairs, chatting all the way back to their accommodation.

Although the dormitory had hot water pipes, the water coming out wasn't hot enough, making one hesitant to step in during the autumn season.

"Let me try." Lovier found an amber-gold crystal ball from her luggage and placed it in the water. Soon, it began emitting gentle heat, keeping the water temperature at a suitable level.

"Before I left, my older brother specially had an Alchemist craft this for me. They said it can be used while bathing so I don't have to worry about the water getting cold." Lovier touched the water temperature, satisfied with the heat being emitted.

"At home, I never really used it because the bathroom was always comfortable."

"Also, since I have the 'Scorching Sun' Aspect myself, I can recharge this crystal ball, so I don't have to worry about it running out of energy."

With this treasure, the three finally managed to take a hot bath. Afterward, they changed into pajamas. At Lovier's suggestion, they pushed the remaining three beds together, then the three leaned against each other sleeping on the beds, with Lovier on the left, Sylutia in the middle, and Aurora on the right.

Nighttime. As they talked, sleepiness slowly crept up on them. Lovier was the first to fall asleep, holding Sylutia's arm. Next was Aurora; after talking about things from her childhood in a half-asleep state, her breathing gradually became steady.

Sylutia looked at the ceiling illuminated by moonlight, thought about the past, compared it to the present, and finally, with a faint sense of anticipation, slowly fell asleep.

Although it was their first time living together, the three surprisingly had no sense of distance between them. They easily became familiar with and accepted each other, listening to each other's breathing as they spent their first night in the academy district.
