The doors of the sick chamber burst opened and Princess Veronica appeared in Maya's vicinity of site.
She looked more beautiful than before but her face was fl.u.s.tered red due to her anger.
'How obvious! Anyone can tell when these people are angry or shy. I must thank heavens that I am not like them! Already I am predictable. At least my dusky skin is a boon for me! And...They look just like a clown with their red fl.u.s.tered face especially with those red ears!'.
While Maya was busy in her own thoughts of funny things, Veronica already made the doctors run away in fear.
Veronica sighs ignoring Maya and walks towards Xavier. She sits on the tool beside his bed and holds his hand worriedly.
Maya can see how much she loves her brother even though Xavier was her half brother.
Even though it was faint, Maya heard her sniffling her cries and finds Veronica wiping her tears sneakily. She waits for few times but Maya felt this was useless and she should try practicing Archery more than wasting her time here.
But Veronica's red face was keeping Maya to not go out yet immediately.
'Ha Ha.... I wonder how her brother's face would be! All red in anger!'
Her humorous daze was broken by a humourless tone.
"It's been a long time, Sister-in-law?".
Maya mentally rolls her eyes 'Why can she just pretend that I am not here?'. But she pretends not hearing her. Rude but Maya couldn't help it. She finds amusing to irk this kid.
'After all who wants to miss a chance of bullying a Royal Princess?!'
She speaks boringly as if talking to Veronica itself is a painful thing to her "You don't have to acknowledge me, Princess. It's better we ignore each other".
"...."
Veronica goes speechless after hearing Maya's bluntness and chuckles. But this time it was warm weirdly.
Maya doesn't know why she felt surprised by her laughs, maybe it's not cold and dangerous like previous encounters. She decides to implement her new found 'skill' of being silent and turns away from facing her.
She looks out the beautiful garden through the window in the chamber. She really wanted to leave the chamber but leaving abruptly will not feed her evil mind. She is tempted to see the fl.u.s.tered face of Veronica. Last time the incident happened between them in the Empress Pavilion brought a funniest face of Veronica.
The awkward silence filled the chamber and Maya looses her interest in irking Veronica now. She also has to have her lunch and doesn't want to make Sarah wait for her. So she decides to leave.
When she walked towards the door, Veronica stops her by her question.
"Where are you going?".
It sounded so loud in a dreadfully silent chamber.
Maya says calmly "My chamber".
Nothing more and nothing less.
Veronica scoffs "Don't you know you should be greeting me?".
Maya raises her eyebrows and declares bluntly still not looking back at her "We hate each other, Princess".
Maya smirks at her comment. She again decides to keep silent and wonders 'Now what would she do to create a new drama?".
Veronica speaks shifting slightly and now facing Maya "But I want to come into an arrangement even after how you treated me last time".
Maya only gazes back questioningly.
'What kind of arrangement is she talking about? And good that she didn't forget that incident yet!'.
Veronica speaks after thinking for a moment calmly "Since my brother likes you, I will let you go from now on. But on one condition. .." and continues after a short pause "You have to obey my brother's orders than stirring trouble like you have been doing-".
Maya sneers "Your brother likes me? You must be delusional, Princess".
Veronica chuckles mockingly before letting a scowl "You only heard that part? Truly. ..you must be in ecstasy-".
Maya fakes a happy cry "Why would I be in ecstasy? Oh! Should I be squealing in joy that your almighty brother likes me?! How stupid is that!".
Veronica fumes "You! I am talking here for your own good!".
Maya waves her hand displeased "Oh? I am flattered by your concern and now it makes me giddy in delight".
Veronica hushes in disbelief "Jesus Christ! I don't know what got into my brother to like this woman!".
Maya shakes her head in disbelief 'What's with her today?! Can't she just stop telling that?!'.
Veronica speaks sternly "You wouldn't be alive till now if my brother doesn't like you, Sister-in-law".
Maya scoffs mentally "I know why I am alive yet'.
Veronica couldn't stand Maya's nonchalant face and huffs before speaking "Do you really think no one would understand your manipulative words against the Realm in The Imperial Court? You must be stupid to even think that you can get away easily after everything you spoke in that street! Do you know what is the punishment for speaking against the Realm here?".
Maya asks with a smirk "Beheading them?".
Veronica chuckles "You are too naive, Sister-in-law. Let me enlighten you?".
Maya frowns 'What is she going to say?'.
Veronica smirks before speaking "You might fall ill just by hearing it, Sister-in-law. So, better obey my brother's every order".
Maya huffs looking away 'This kid only talks big'.
Veronica smiles sweetly "The punishment lasts till you die. But most people died on their third day. First their nails would be plucked off from their fingers and toes. And our soldiers will take their lovely time in breaking every single bones of them without killing them".
Maya who was facing away freezes just be hearing this 'Nails off from their fingers?'.
"This will be enough for them to realize their crime and they will be left alone to rest".
Maya creases her eyebrows 'Rest?! Honestly?'.
"Most people die even at this first step but few of them will survive for the next day. They are stubborn to get multiple stabs and cuts on their second day. I forgot to mention our kind treatment after this. Can you guess?".
