Chapter 788 - 770: I’m Not a Slut 81
Xiao Yuan went to work on the morning of Chu Jiu.
Before he went to work, he had already told Mr. Xiao and Mother Xiao to go out and have some fun today, maybe do some shopping, and also visit some tourist spots in N City.
Mr. Xiao and Mother Xiao said they would go, and they even planned to eat out instead of cooking.
Since he had three elder sisters going with them, Xiao Yuan felt quite relieved.
When he arrived at the hospital, there was already a long line of people waiting for him.
Xiao Yuan changed into his work clothes and started seeing patients, and the morning passed by in a rush.
As it came time to finish work, there was one more patient, so Xiao Yuan took his pulse and prescribed some medicine.
He handed the prescription to the patient: "You can pick up the medicine at the hospital pharmacy, or at any outside pharmacy. But the herbs in our Traditional Chinese Medicine pharmacy are all inspected by me, and they’re very effective. You can have the pharmacy staff prepare and seal the medicine for you to take home, which is convenient. Of course, you can also get your prescription filled outside, but I can’t vouch for which outside pharmacy has good herbs. You may need to ask around."
After Xiao Yuan had explained this, the patient decided to get the medicine at the hospital.
Xiao Yuan had not been working at the hospital for a long time, but he had already gained a good reputation.
Many patients trusted him deeply, and most were there specifically to see him. Everyone said his medical ethics were outstanding and his character was impeccable. They believed that he wouldn’t lie about something like medicine.
Moreover, the medicine in the hospital pharmacy wasn’t more expensive than outside, and even if there was a slight price difference, it wasn’t much. Therefore, it seemed better to get the medicine from the hospital for peace of mind.
After the patient took the prescription to get the medicine, Xiao Yuan changed back into his regular clothes to go have lunch.
He had just changed and was about to leave when his phone rang.
Xiao Yuan quickly answered it, and heard Third’s voice: "Brother-in-law, are you free right now? I’m at the XX police station; come pick me up, please."
"Okay, wait for me, I’ll be right there."
Xiao Yuan put away his phone, grabbed his car keys, and headed out.
As he drove there, once inside, he immediately spotted Third sitting angrily in the lobby, with a few young people with brightly dyed hair crouched next to her.
Two police officers were giving Third and those youngsters a lesson.
Xiao Yuan walked up to Third and asked, "What’s going on here?"
He then recognized the two policemen.
One of the policemen’s grandfathers was a patient of Xiao Yuan; the officer had accompanied his grandfather to see Xiao Yuan for treatment. Over time they had become acquainted.
"Police Officer Yu."
Xiao Yuan went over to greet him: "This is my sister-in-law, what happened?"
Police Officer Yu gestured towards Third and said, "Nothing too serious; it was just a fight."
"A fight?"
Xiao Yuan raised his eyebrows and quickly asked Third, "Are you injured?"
Third shook her head, quite smugly: "Me, injured? That would be a joke. I’m fine; it’s them who are in trouble."
She pointed to the young group: "These weaklings thought they could bully me. Back in the day... they didn’t even know where to hide, huh, if they were all tied together they still wouldn’t be a match for me."
Xiao Yuan felt like hitting Third—what was she doing talking like that in a police station? She should at least try to look pitiful.
"When are you going to change this bad habit? All you do is boast. How can you, a young girl, not get hurt fighting with a bunch of grown men? Get up; let me check you."
Xiao Yuan scolded Third with a stern face, and she was actually scared.
She wasn’t afraid of her parents, nor her eldest and second sisters. She wasn’t scared of her future brother-in-law either, but for some reason, she was afraid of this second brother-in-law. Every time she faced him, she was terrified.
This time she wouldn’t have called her brother-in-law if it wasn’t for being too scared to call her parents or her elder sisters to come. She had been forced into a corner.
Third cautiously stood up.
Xiao Yuan grabbed her wrist to take her pulse: "What do you mean you’re not injured? No external wounds mean no injury? You may not have external injuries, but you certainly have internal injuries."
While taking her pulse, Xiao Yuan patted a few spots on Third’s body, hitting acupuncture points, and Third broke out in a sweat from the pain, crying out, "It hurts, my stomach really hurts."
Seeing this, Police Officer Yu quickly became concerned and asked, "What’s this about?"
Xiao Yuan spoke softly, "She’s been struck in the abdomen by something heavy; I’m afraid her internal organs could be injured."
The young folks were scared as soon as they heard this.
One of the youngsters tried to stand up, "You—you’re talking nonsense, she was obviously the one hitting us."
Xiao Yuan cast a glance their way, frightening the young man into silence.
Xiao Yuan said coldly, "A bunch of grown men bullying a young girl and you think you can justify that? Look what you’ve done to my sister."
He turned to Police Officer Yu, "Sorry, I’m just too anxious, seeing my sister like this. I need to take her to the hospital for a thorough check-up. Can we take her statement after she’s better?"
Seeing Third almost in tears and considering this was not a serious matter—just some youngsters fighting, at worst a stern lecture—Police Officer Yu nodded, "Okay, your sister’s well-being comes first. Take her to the hospital quickly. Do you need us to call an ambulance?"
Xiao Yuan waved it off, "I am a doctor myself; we don’t need an ambulance, I’ll take her."
Xiao Yuan signed the paperwork, and then turned to Third, "Can you walk? Or should I carry you?"
Third waved her hands, her voice barely a whisper, "I—I can walk, brother-in-law, just help me a bit."
Xiao Yuan assisted Third out and settled her into the car. He moved to the driver’s seat, starting the car while scolding Third, "How have you not died of stupidity?"
Third broke down crying, "Brother-in-law, that’s not fair, why did you let me suffer like this..."
Xiao Yuan drove towards the hospital, "What nonsense did you spout at the police station, saying you fought and pinned down several grown men on your own? How strong do you think you are? If those guys had decided to play sick or in pain, they could’ve easily extorted you. Even if you wanted to show off, you need to pick the right time and place. Now, just go to the hospital with me, I’ll take you home after my shift."
Third was in pain, "Brother-in-law, can you first treat me? It hurts so much."
"Deserved."
Xiao Yuan parked and patted Third on the back a few times, after which she immediately stopped hurting.
With the pain gone, her usual energy returned and she started chatting with Xiao Yuan cheerily, "Brother-in-law, you’ve really got skills. Teach me, so next time I fight, I can do that too. How impressive would that be?"
"I won’t teach you."
Xiao Yuan refused flatly with a cold face.
Third persisted, "Come on, teach me. I’ll treat you for a meal, and I’ll always say good things about you to my sister, make her treat you well. And if you don’t teach me, don’t blame me for badmouthing you later."
Xiao Yuan’s smile bore a hint of mockery, "Give it a try and see if your sister believes you or me. Do you think you can come between the bond your sister and I have with just a few words? Don’t end up losing more than you try to cheat."
Third was fuming, "You—you’re so stubborn, you..."
Xiao Yuan said coldly, "If you keep blabbering, I’ll make sure you won’t be able to talk."
Third quickly covered her mouth, staring at Xiao Yuan with her big, round eyes filled with fear.
Xiao Yuan drove to the hospital, and upon getting out of the car asked Third, "Have you eaten?"
Third shook her head, still too afraid to speak.
So, Xiao Yuan took her to a nearby diner for a meal before taking her into the hospital.
It wasn’t time for Xiao Yuan’s shift yet, and upon entering, Xiao Yuan had Third sit down and pulled up a chair opposite her, "Now, tell me what happened."
Third’s eyes darted around.
Xiao Yuan chuckled softly, "Tell the truth. That Police Officer Yu’s father was saved by me—I can just ask him, and he will definitely tell me everything."
Knowing she couldn’t avoid it, Third spoke listlessly, "It was those guys with yellow and green hair. I didn’t provoke them or anything. I was just playing outside, and then we clashed. I didn’t even do much to them, but they turned it around on me, claiming I hit them, and demanded compensation. I have such a hot temper, I couldn’t take that unfairness, so we... we started fighting."
Xiao Yuan’s gaze turned cold, "Did you come out at a loss?"
Third shook her head, "No, no loss."
That’s good. If a young girl faced injustice outside, her family would definitely be distressed.
Xiao Yuan nodded, "Alright, you wait here and play for a bit. I’ll take you home after work and ask Police Officer Yu about what’s going on with those people."
"Well, what else could it be? They just wanted to extort money from me."
Third said nonchalantly, "Otherwise, they must have thought I look so beautiful, they wanted to take advantage of me."
"Sure, as beautiful as a flower."
Xiao Yuan lowered his head, beginning to look through the medical records.
