Chapter 783 - 765: I Am Not a Slut 76

"What’s wrong?"

Anning whispered to Mr. Jiang, "How do I ask my sister about it? Please tell me."

Mr. Jiang got noticeably upset when the subject came up.

He pointed to the room where An Nan was, "That damned girl of yours is almost driving us to death."

Mrs. Jiang brought out some reheated food for Anning to eat.

As she sat with Anning, who was eating, she spoke, "It’s all because of your sister and Wei Jiaming, you know? How could we have been so foolish, not to ask around before? Today, a group of people came to eat at your dad’s restaurant, and your dad happened to be there. He overheard them talking about where they used to live, and realized they were neighbors before the Wei Family’s relocation. So he paid special attention, brought over a glass of wine, saying he wanted to see how everyone liked the food, and ended up chatting with them. And just like that, he uncovered the issue."

Anning listened as Mrs. Jiang rambled on.

She realized something was definitely up.

What a coincidence this was today.

Business at Fuman Building had been quite good these past few days. The group that came today had actually booked the private room at the beginning of the year. When they were waiting for someone in the lobby, Mr. Jiang heard them chatting and found out they lived close to the Wei Family in the past, so he kept a clever eye on them.

When the people entered the room and most of the dishes were served and nearly finished, Mr. Jiang went over with a glass of wine.

He knocked on the door with a smile on his face, and seeing that there wasn’t much food left on the table, he cheerfully said, "Everyone, I’m the owner of this restaurant. Since it’s New Year, I came to wish you all a happy new year."

When they heard the owner had arrived, they all chatted and laughed a bit with Mr. Jiang.

Then Mr. Jiang asked, "I have no other intention but to ask everyone how you find the food and if you have any suggestions. If there’s something not to your liking, we can improve immediately."

Among the group, there was a man with surname Wei, known to everyone as Old Wei. He said, "Boss, there is really nothing to criticize about your food. The flavor is exceptionally good, and the service isn’t bad either, it’s just that the serving is a tad slow."

Mr. Jiang chuckled, "I accept that. It’s New Year, and some of our servers are on rotation leave, but we will improve. We plan to hire more waitstaff and will also provide quicker training for our chefs."

Old Wei waved his hand, "Nowadays, running a business is tough. You’re putting a lot of effort into managing all this, and everyone is busy during the New Year. It’s understandable."

Mr. Jiang then called out, "Xiao Li, prepare another two dishes for this table."

Turning back to Old Wei, Mr. Jiang said, "These two dishes are on the house, new menu items we’re about to introduce. Please help us taste them."

Free food, of course everyone was willing to try.

Soon, two new dishes were brought up.

The people started eating, and Mr. Jiang said, "I heard from your conversation that you’re originally from Dahuai Village, right?"

Several people nodded: "We can tell, yes, we all used to be from Dahuai Village, but after the relocations, we’ve drifted apart, and today we finally got a chance to gather."

Mr. Jiang pulled up a chair to sit down and asked with a smile, "Back in the day, there was a pig butcher in your village surnamed Wei. I remember him, how is he doing now?"

Old Wei chuckled: "You’re talking about Wei Lin, aren’t you? He’s doing quite well now, his family’s fortune just skyrocketed. They set up a factory, registered their own brand, and produce some famous ham and marinated meats. During the relocations, his family got a good share of houses; they’re pretty wealthy, to say the least."

The man sitting next to Old Wei commented, "What’s the use of being wealthy? He lives a terrible life now. Wei Lin has found himself a mistress and scarcely spends any time at home. He stays at his mistress’ place, treating her daughter as if she were his own, buying her property and houses. His wife cries her heart out over this."

As soon as Mr. Jiang heard this, the smile on his face couldn’t hold up: "I always thought he wasn’t that sort of person, how could he just..."

"People change when they get money."

Old Wei took a sip of his drink and laughed: "His daughter became mentally disabled after a fall; he didn’t let his wife take care of her and instead, he took her to his mistress’ place to be looked after. Their son, who’s not all there in the head either, spends his days at the mistress’ place, calling her ’Auntie’ and is closer to her than his own mother. We all suspect that the kid has taken a fancy to the daughter of that mistress."

Mr. Jiang’s expression worsened hearing this: "This is utterly messed up. I can’t believe such people exist. No mistress can be more dear than one’s own mother, no matter how great she is."

Another person chimed in with some fairness: "Actually, you can’t blame Wei Lin for not wanting to be home. His wife is really something else; she’s more attached to money than anything else. With Wei Lin’s huge family fortune, his wife is so stingy she won’t even spend on food or clothes, and sometimes she won’t even buy vegetables. She doesn’t throw out leftover food at home, eating it over several meals. There was an incident where she got food poisoning from leftovers and nearly lost her life at the hospital. Tell me, what’s the point of Wei Lin staying at home with such a wife?"

Old Wei also sighed: "I heard his daughter became disabled because his wife’s stinginess was intolerable. She went out to look for food and fell into a ditch and injured her brain."

Someone else recalled an event: "You may not know this, but a few years ago Old Wei fell ill, and his wife was too cheap to buy him medicine, claiming that the illness was incurable and the medication too expensive. Later, their son borrowed money from a classmate to buy the medicine. He was still in school then, and after buying the medicine and putting it at home, he went off to school. His wife saw the medicine but didn’t give it to Old Wei; instead, she sold it."

"There was such a thing? No wonder Wei Lin doesn’t want to go home. If I had a wife like that, I wouldn’t go home either; I’d definitely find someone else on the side."

"The Wei family’s business is quite a mess; their home never has a peaceful day."

"What kind of life is that? If it’s like this, it would be better to be without money."

Hearing all this, Mr. Jiang stood up: "You folks take your time eating. I’m going out for a bit. Later, I’ll ask them to give you a discount – do come by often."

Mr. Jiang left with a dark expression on his face.

After leaving, he couldn’t stay put in the restaurant as anger blazed within him.

He gave a few instructions to the manager and then headed back.

Back at home, Jiang Anan hadn’t returned yet, and Mr. Jiang relayed the news to Mrs. Jiang.

He told Mrs. Jiang to call Jiang Anan and ask her to hurry back.

Mrs. Jiang was also fuming: "What kind of situation is this? Wei Jiaming obviously deceived us. If we had known about this earlier, we definitely wouldn’t have let Eldest date him."

As she complained, she called Jiang Anan, telling her to come home quickly as there was an urgent matter.

After hanging up, Mrs. Jiang said to Mr. Jiang, "The Xiao Family lives far away, so it’s understandable we didn’t know about them, but the Wei Family is nearby. How come we didn’t inquire about them before? It’s also my fault. When seeing Eldest dating Wei Jiaming, I was just so happy. At that time, I mainly wanted her to forget that Zhang fellow, but who would have thought that she’d jump from the frying pan into the fire."
