Chapter 745 - 729: I Am Not a Slut 40
Xiao Yuan just entered the door when Mrs. Jiang enthusiastically got up to greet him.
"Dr. Xiao has arrived. Our head of the household is doing much better now. We really owe you one for this morning."
Xiao Yuan smiled and asked Mr. Jiang a few questions, and then took his pulse: "Indeed, there’s a significant improvement. If things continue like this, you’ll be able to be discharged in a couple of days."
"Dr. Xiao, when am I able to get out of bed?"
Mr. Jiang had been confined to bed all this time and it was especially inconvenient. He was almost driven mad by the urge to get up, always thinking about getting out of bed, but Mrs. Jiang watched him without leaving his side, preventing him from getting up even when he wanted to.
"Tomorrow, you should be able to get out of bed tomorrow."
Xiao Yuan looked at the time: "Uncle, you can’t rush this. You have to stay calm. If you listen to the doctor’s orders, it’s just one day that you can’t get out of bed. But if you don’t listen to me and arbitrarily get up and walk around, I’m afraid you’ll be bedridden for a long time after that."
Mrs. Jiang then glared at Mr. Jiang: "Did you hear that? Dr. Xiao said it himself. You have someone to take care of you, it’s not a big deal to stay in bed for one more day. Just lie down properly."
Mr. Jiang had no choice but to obediently lie back down.
Xiao Yuan chatted with Mr. Jiang for a few more sentences before leaving.
As soon as he left, Mr. Jiang then said to Mrs. Jiang: "Dr. Xiao is so young but so capable, and also very good-looking. I wonder if he has a partner?"
Mrs. Jiang hit Mr. Jiang lightly: "Whether he has a partner or not, what can you do? Are you thinking of setting him up?"
"If there’s a suitable match, why not?"
Mr. Jiang smiled.
Mrs. Jiang lowered her voice: "Don’t even think about it. I’ve been asking around. Dr. Xiao is good, but his family situation isn’t that great. His family is from a mountainous area, very poor. His three older sisters all stopped going to school and started working to put him through school."
"Is that so."
Mr. Jiang gave up the idea of introducing someone to Xiao Yuan: "Then we really can’t set him up. It’s a shame considering how good this young man’s prospects are...sigh!"
"You better focus on recovering from your illness."
Mrs. Jiang took an apple: "Want to eat an apple?"
Mr. Jiang shook his head: "No, give me the phone, I need to make a call to the boss."
Mrs. Jiang was having none of it: "Just stop worrying about it. That’s a matter for the family themselves to deal with. Why are you meddling unnecessarily?"
Mr. Jiang was silenced by her words.
Anning went home after her visit and first fed Xiao Hua, then called both Jiang Anan and Jiang Anping.
Not long after, the two sisters came back.
As soon as Jiang Anan entered the door, she asked: "How is dad doing?"
Jiang Anping also looked anxious.
"It’s nothing serious, he’s stabilized now, but he needs to be hospitalized for observation for a few days," Anning said while busy in the kitchen.
Jiang Anan sighed with relief: "That’s good to hear."
For the first time, Jiang Anping entered the kitchen to help Anning pick vegetables. While working, she asked: "How’s the arrangement at the hospital going? Should I go and replace mom tonight?"
Anning waved her hand: "I’ll go. You have school tomorrow, Eldest has her store to open, and I have the most flexible schedule. I will go."
Jiang Anping thought for a moment: "Okay, then I’ll go over tomorrow night."
Jiang Anan replied, "I won’t be available tomorrow morning, how about the afternoon? I can do it for you in the afternoon."
The three sisters scheduled their time, and Jiang Anan changed her clothes to start cleaning the room, while Anning and Jiang Anping prepared the meal. Anning didn’t linger; she packed some food in a lunch box: "I’m off to the hospital now. Keep some food for mom, and if she comes back late, eldest sister, you can make her some soup. If the food gets cold, just heat it up in the microwave."
Jiang Anan waved her hand: "Alright, I got it. You better hurry along now."
Anning went downstairs; by now, it had already gotten dark, and she stood on the roadside waiting for a taxi.
While waiting, Anning pondered the necessity of buying a car.
Over the following days, the family took turns visiting the hospital. Only the first day was somewhat tiring, as Mr. Jiang was unable to get out of bed, but during the following days, when Mr. Jiang was able to move around, there wasn’t much for the companion to do, just to chat with him and prepare some food.
When Mr. Jiang was discharged, Xiao Yuan came over to give some advice: "After going back, you can’t get too worked up, keep a calm state of mind, don’t get into arguments, and remember to exercise. Come back in three days, and I’ll give you another massage."
Mr. Jiang quickly responded with a smile: "I’ve noted everything down, don’t worry, I’ll definitely pay attention."
Anning found a taxi and called Mr. Jiang over, Xiao Yuan walked them out a few steps, Mr. Jiang then turned back and said: "No need to see us out any further."
Xiao Yuan smiled: "Take care, Uncle."
Mr. Jiang felt rather surprised in his heart and said to Anning: "In the future, if we need medical care, we should still come to Medical University Hospital. Look at how good the doctors here are, their attitude makes you feel like you’re just at home, not only the doctors are good, but even the nurses are always smiling when they talk to you, staying in this hospital was very comforting."
Anning laughed: "You’ve just been discharged, and you’re thinking about hospitalization again. Spit that thought right out."
Mr. Jiang spat out.
Anning helped him into the car, and when they arrived at the residential area, they ran into Aunt Sun getting ready to go out. Seeing Mr. Jiang come down, Aunt Sun hurriedly asked: "Have you been discharged?"
Mr. Jiang nodded: "Yes, discharged."
"You should have a good rest at home then."
Aunt Sun had a smiling face and said to Anning: "Anning, there is a good match over at Xiao Fang’s place. Let me introduce him to you. The guy’s family background is great. Not only do they have money, but they also have many connections, including in hospitals. If you two get together, you won’t have to worry about anything later. If your parents are ever ill or in pain, hospitalization and such would be easily handled. You see..."
Anning laughed: "Aunt Sun, I mentioned last time that I already have someone."
"That’s no worry; you can break up. Even married people can get divorced. You see..."
Hearing this, Mr. Jiang’s expression turned unpleasant: "Third sister, my back is hurting again. Quick, help me up; I want to lie down for a while."
Anning looked concerned: "Okay, Dad, please be careful. Shall I call Third to come down and help carry you?"
Mr. Jiang waved his hand: "No need, just help me up, I’ll get over it in a bit."
Normally, such a situation would have made someone else stop talking, but Aunt Sun was still not satisfied and kept persuading Anning: "The person you’re with doesn’t sound very good. Given such a major event as your father’s hospitalization, he didn’t even come to visit. Right, he probably never visited your home, has he? That’s not acceptable; you definitely need to break up. The one I’m talking about is really good; he has a car. In the future, whatever you need, he could drive you around. It would be so convenient."
Anning blocked Aunt Sun with her hand: "You don’t need to worry about this, I’m actually planning to buy a car. If I have a car, I can drive myself, which is even more convenient."
Aunt Sun, angry, turned around and left while muttering: "Really ungrateful, claiming to have a partner, what kind of partner that is, probably just some lowlife."
As soon as Anning helped Mr. Jiang enter the home, they noticed that the atmosphere inside was not good.
Mrs. Jiang had a grim expression, and Third was sitting silently, holding Xiao Hua.
"What happened?"
As Anning helped Mr. Jiang to sit on the sofa, she asked again.
Mrs. Jiang’s tears started falling: "Third sister, your father... just now your father’s boss called and said that Weixiangyuan was bought out, and your father is going to be unemployed."
Anning thought it was something serious but immediately laughed upon hearing this: "What’s there to cry about? It’s not worth it."
Mr. Jiang also saw it very clear-headedly: "Why cry about it? We’re not in dire straits. We have several houses now. Both eldest and second daughters earn quite a lot. Even if I’m out of a job, they still can support us. Besides, with my skills, I can work anywhere, not just Weixiangyuan."
