Chapter 743 - 727: I Am Not a Slut 38
Chapter 743 - 727: I Am Not a Slut 38
Xiao Yuan had just treated a child a little over two years old, coaxed him to eat a few sugar pills he made himself, and repeated instructions to the parents. Seeing that it was almost time to get off work, he turned to go change his clothes in the back room.
However, before he could leave, the hospital director’s phone call came through.
"Dr. Xiao, could you please come to the emergency department immediately?"
Xiao Yuan didn’t change his clothes and directly responded, "Okay, I’ll be right there."
He turned around, checked his phone, and saw that not far from the hospital, a multi-vehicle collision had occurred, involving dozens of cars piled up and some pedestrians injured; it was indeed a gruesome scene.
Xiao Yuan knew it must be due to the lack of staff in the ER, which is why the doctors who were about to finish their shifts needed to go help.
Knowing that saving lives was as urgent as putting out a fire, Xiao Yuan ran all the way to the emergency room.
Upon his arrival, the emergency room was busier than a marketplace, with quite a few patients covered in blood, and surgeries being performed on severely injured patients.
Director Xiong from the emergency department saw Xiao Yuan arrive and quickly pulled him aside, "There’s a patient who is not sensitive to anaesthetics, and he is severely injured and needs surgery immediately. We are really out of options here, knowing your skills in acupuncture, I wonder if acupuncture could be used to replace anesthesia."
Xiao Yuan nodded, "Show me the patient."
Director Xiong brought Xiao Yuan over to see the patient. The doctors there had already started preparations, but the anaesthesia injections were not working well, which would complicate the surgical procedure.
After assessing the situation, Xiao Yuan quickly changed his clothes and went through sterilization, following directly into the operating room.
He had brought his own silver needles and once in the operating room, disinfected them before starting acupuncture on the patient.
After inserting many needles, Xiao Yuan was sweating profusely.
He then stopped, "Alright."
The chief surgeon saw that the patient was now deeply asleep.
He nodded at Xiao Yuan.
Xiao Yuan didn’t leave but assisted in the surgery.
The injured patient was truly severely hurt, and the surgery lasted a long time. Xiao Yuan adjusted several silver needles during the procedure, otherwise, the patient might wake up.
By the time the surgery was completed, the chief surgeon was almost too exhausted to stand.
Xiao Yuan suggested, "Why don’t you take a rest, and I’ll stitch him up."
The chief surgeon knew that Xiao Yuan had studied Western medicine, and although he didn’t know how he was in surgery, he was certainly competent in suturing.
He nodded, and Xiao Yuan started suturing the patient.
After resting for a moment, the chief surgeon came over and comforted by Xiao Yuan’s suturing skills which were impressive; his hands were steady, and his movements were delicate. It didn’t look like he was new to this; rather, he seemed like a veteran who had spent decades in the operating room. Truly smooth.
When Xiao Yuan finished suturing, the chief surgeon nodded at him, then signaled the nurses to transfer the patient to the ward.
Xiao Yuan removed the silver needles, packed them up, and changed clothes before leaving.
As he walked down the long hallway, he only moved a little distance when he heard crying.
Looking up, he saw a little boy injured and crying.
It was a small boy, apparently around five or six years old, had injured his arm and needed suturing.
But the child was crying inconsolably, staunchly refusing anesthesia or sutures.
Xiao Yuan smiled, walked over, crouched down to meet the little boy’s eyes, and pulled out a candy from his pocket. Holding the candy to distract the child, and gesturing the nurse to prepare the anesthesia needle.
Perhaps it was Xiao Yuan’s reassuring smile, the child stopped crying, staring directly at the candy in Xiao Yuan’s hand.
"This is a candy I made myself, very delicious. Many children love it. Wouldn’t you like to try it?"
With a smile on his face, Xiao Yuan asked, "What’s your name?"
The child’s voice was soft and tender, "Lele."
"Lele, tell uncle why are you crying."
As Xiao Yuan spoke to Lele with a relaxed face, his other hand quickly and gently administered the anesthesia without Lele even noticing it.
"Don’t be afraid, Lele, look, your arm is bleeding, and with such a big wound, if not stitched up, it will look very ugly."
"But it really hurts." Tears started welling up in Lele’s eyes again.
"Uncle will stitch you up, okay? When uncle stitches, it won’t hurt at all."
Xiao Yuan asked with a smile, "Otherwise, how about we make a bet? If it hurts, you can say however you want us to proceed, and you can ask us to stop anytime if it hurts, okay?"
Lele thought about it, looked at the wound on his arm, and timidly nodded.
Xiao Yuan took the suture tools and gently disinfected Lele’s wound, while talking to him and quickly stitched up the wound.
Lele didn’t even feel it, and Xiao Yuan had already bandaged him up: "Lele, see? It doesn’t hurt at all."
Lele indeed didn’t feel any pain. He looked down at the bandaged arm and smiled brightly, "Thank you, Uncle. It doesn’t hurt at all."
Xiao Yuan then gave Lele the candy he was holding: "This is a reward for our brave little man, Lele, you’re awesome."
Lele’s mother held her child and cried.
She was truly exhausted from coaxing her child during the injection and stitching.
Moreover, she was also worried about her husband, who had shielded her and the child with his body during the car collision. She and the child were fine, but her husband was seriously injured.
Xiao Yuan stood up and reassured Lele’s mother: "Don’t worry, the surgery went well."
With tears in her eyes but a smile at the corners of her mouth, Lele’s mother said, "Thank you."
The emergency room was really busy, so Xiao Yuan stayed to help until all the patients were settled, nearly midnight by then. He didn’t return to the school, but rather slept in his office for a while.
Weixiangyuan
After Mr. Jiang arrived at the kitchen, several workers had already cleaned up the kitchen, and the food preparers had also started preparing the ingredients.
Mr. Jiang changed his clothes and first checked whether the ingredients prepared today were fresh.
He had always been like this over the years; he had to inspect every ingredient personally. It was precisely because of this attitude that the ingredients at Weixiangyuan were especially fresh and the prepared dishes were clean and delicious, which attracted new customers and retained regulars.
Today, Mr. Jiang did the same, inspecting the delivered vegetables before starting work. Besides vegetables, he also checked the meat, fish, and seafood one by one.
He had finished inspecting the vegetables, meat, and fish, but when he checked the seafood, Mr. Jiang’s face suddenly darkened, "Which supplier sent this seafood?"
The person in charge of procurement quickly joked with a smile, "Is this a new supplier? How come there are so many substandard shrimp? I’ll give them a call to ask."
Mr. Jiang stood up, looking very displeased, "Ask them, and tell them to replace these items quickly. Weixiangyuan can’t afford to have rotten seafood."
After the procurement manager made the call, he reported to Mr. Jiang with a troubled expression, "Master Jiang, let’s just make do for today. We’ll sort out the unusable ones and keep what’s usable, okay?"
Mr. Jiang glowered at the procurement manager: "What exactly happened?"
The procurement manager looked distressed, "The new supplier is from Xiao Dong’s family’s future Yue family."
Hearing this, Mr. Jiang scoffed repeatedly, "If they are our future in-laws, shouldn’t they provide fresher goods? What, they are sending us unsellable items now? Do they think we are junk dealers or something? Is this how in-laws act, or are they more like enemies, trying to force Weixiangyuan out of business?"
In other matters, Mr. Jiang could be ambiguous, but with food entering the mouth, there absolutely could be no compromise.
If people really got sick from bad produce, Weixiangyuan wouldn’t be able to continue operating.
In the restaurant business, the flavor of food is certainly important, but the freshness and cleanliness of food are fundamental. Extra care for what goes into the mouth is never too much.
Mr. Jiang looked at the seafood, infuriated, and, disregarding everything else, immediately called the boss on his cellphone.
He had been working here for many years and was very familiar with the boss, so Mr. Jiang was not afraid. He had to report this issue to the boss. If they truly wouldn’t accommodate him because of this issue, he could simply quit. He could go back and make steamed buns with his elder daughter or cook for his own family; either way, he wouldn’t starve.
"Old Zheng, I need to talk to you about something."
Mr. Jiang thoroughly explained the situation to his boss, "If the seafood isn’t replaced, we’ll have to change today’s menu, as these items can’t be served."
The boss was genuinely unaware of the problem and immediately responded, "Wait for me. I’ll be there right away."
After Mr. Jiang hung up the phone, he was just about to instruct his staff to start preparing other dishes when he moved slightly, and his back pain became agonizing.
Mr. Jiang was momentarily unable to move, clutching his back and stiffening in place.
A few of Mr. Jiang’s apprentices, seeing his condition, quickly came over to support him, "Master, what’s wrong?"
Mr. Jiang, with a pained expression, said, "I tweaked my back... it’s not working, help me sit down quickly."
However, before he could sit down, he passed out.
