Chapter 709 - 188: You Should Have Appeared in Ning Yan’er’s Room
Although sleeping in Lu Jingchen’s arms made Song Qiao feel even more uncomfortable, it didn’t take long for the scent of his shower gel, the same one she used, and the smell of his shaving cream to lull the already sleepy Song Qiao into listening to the steady beat of his heart and falling slowly asleep.
.........
Meanwhile, in the hospital at this moment, Ning Wan awoke in the middle of the night wanting to use the restroom. As soon as she opened her eyes, she sensed something was off and immediately sat up, scanning the room, only to find no one else but herself.
She frowned slightly, convincing herself she was overthinking it.
She felt as though someone had been sitting by her side while she slept, watching her intensely, but she was too tired to bother opening her eyes to see who it was.
The only impression was that the gaze, always on her, felt very familiar, as if she had been watched like this on countless nights before.
Just then, the sound of the doorknob turning suddenly came from the door, causing her somewhat relaxed mood to tighten up instantly as she fixed her gaze towards the door.
Ning Wan had originally expected the attendant to stay with her, but she declined and sent the attendant home, leaving her now by herself in the room.
Honestly, facing such a large and quiet environment alone, she felt a bit frightened, particularly because this was a hospital, after all.
During the times she and Song Qiao were together, they had watched some ghost and horror movies centered on hospitals, and although she was not easily scared, she was still a woman with an instinctual fear.
Steady footsteps grew louder, and not long after, a man wearing only a white shirt and black trousers with black leather shoes walked into view. When Ning Wan recognized the visitor, she was taken aback and almost instinctively blurted out, "Xi Mohan, what are you doing here?"
Xi Mohan hadn’t expected Ning Wan to be awake either; his steps halted, his gaze falling upon her slightly pale and gaunt face. It was apparent from her expression, marked by a trace of anger, that she questioned why he had appeared.
After a moment, the man finally moved, reaching out to switch on the lights in the room, which instantly flooded the space with brightness, causing Ning Wan to shield her eyes involuntarily.
"You’re awake? Are you hungry?" he asked, his deep voice arising without haste and devoid of any hint of emotional fluctuation, as if it were just a casual question.
After adjusting to the brightness, Ning Wan lowered her hand, her gaze fixed straight on the man opposite her, her eyebrows slightly furrowed as if filled with anger, she maintained her questioning posture, "Xi Mohan, what are you doing here?"
Damn, no wonder she had felt like someone was watching her as she slept; now seeing the man before her, she was one hundred percent sure it wasn’t an illusion, but this man staring at her.
At this thought, Ning Wan couldn’t help but feel a shiver starting from her feet and spreading throughout her body, leaving her feeling chilly all over.
She had told herself she shouldn’t come to the hospital, lest this man discover her whereabouts. And sure enough, within less than three days of her hospital stay, he had found her.
What exactly was he planning to do? Was he still unwilling to let her go?
Ning Wan dared not continue harboring feelings for Xi Mohan, for this man was simply too dangerous; so dangerous that being close to him had led her to be hurt so many times.
However, Xi Mohan didn’t seem to mind, as he began to walk towards the bed, the cool air from outside accompanying his approach. He spoke faintly, "I’ve come to see you; it’s dangerous for you to be alone at night."
She had just had a miscarriage, and her body had not completely recovered. It was naturally inconvenient to be alone in the hospital.
Initially, she had arranged for a nursing attendant, and so had Lu Jingchen. He instructed his own attendant not to come in the evening, as the night was his time, but with Lu Jingchen’s attendant, he didn’t issue any orders, instead, Ning Wan herself had told them not to come.
Seeing Xi Mohan slowly approaching, Ning Wan couldn’t help wanting to retreat, but she was already at the head of the bed; retreating further was not an option, not to mention it was impossible for her to contend with the man in front of her in this hospital room, feeling as helpless as a fish on a chopping block.
