Chapter 146: Owe You Another Life
Chapter 146: Owe You Another Life
"Damn it!!" Damian Knight cursed under his breath, ignoring Summer Monroe’s words, and directly scooped her up from the chair, striding out.
"Let me go!" Summer struggled fiercely, "Five seconds! I only need five seconds!"
"There’s no time!" Damian ran out with her in his arms.
Just then, a white box suddenly popped up on the computer screen, displaying in English: "Software deleted."
Summer’s eyes lit up, "They’ve returned control to us!"
Damian saw it too, halting his steps involuntarily.
In that instant, Summer completely broke free from Damian’s arms, dashed to the computer, and swiftly pressed several keys.
One second later, the computer prompted: "Doors opened."
"Open!" Summer’s face lit up with joy.
But before she could celebrate for long, the ceiling completely collapsed, crashing down swiftly.
Even Damian couldn’t react to the speed.
Fortunately, Summer reacted quickly, rolling away to dodge the ceiling crashing down from above, landing in front of Damian.
Damian snapped back to reality, grabbed Summer, and yanked her out of the room, pulling them both out together.
They hadn’t been out of the room for a second when the entire ceiling of the house collapsed completely.
Amidst the dust and a sea of flames, only ruins could be seen.
At the same time, Summer heard the sound of the downstairs door opening.
Many people shouted joyfully, "It’s open! The door is open! Run!"
Summer exhaled deeply, met Damian’s eyes, and with a relieved smile, said, "I told you, we won’t die here, right?"
Damian looked at her deeply and said with some helplessness, "Yes, I owe you another life."
He already owed her two lives.
Summer nodded and said, "Remember to pay me when we get out."
She dared not joke about "paying with your life" anymore, for fear Damian might say something about "truth hidden in a joke."
However, Damian nodded seriously and said, "Okay, all the money I have, I’ll give to you after we get out."
Summer was stunned, unable to determine if Damian was speaking sincerely or joking.
Give her all his money? She couldn’t accept that!
"Let’s go." Summer simply didn’t respond, avoiding the flames on the ground, and headed towards the staircase of the emergency passage.
But as she reached the staircase, a thought suddenly flashed in her mind.
Summer remembered the secret compartment in the CEO’s office; she hadn’t opened it yet!
Surely there would be no one on the top floor now, and if she went up, she could definitely avoid all eyes and find what she was looking for.
Summer’s steps came to a sudden halt, and she turned to Damian and said, "You go ahead, I’ll catch up soon."
Damian furrowed his brows skeptically, "The door is already open, what else do you need to do?"
"I forgot something upstairs, I need to retrieve it. You go ahead, I’ll be down in five minutes."
Damian disagreed, grabbing her arm, "No, you have to come out with me. Who knows if this place will explode again? What if the whole building collapses? You’re coming with me now!"
He pulled on Summer’s hand, trying to lead her into the fire escape.
Summer clung tightly to the fire escape door with one hand and freed her other hand from Damian’s grasp, stubbornly saying, "I’m not leaving! If I don’t get that thing, I might never get it again! It’s very important to me!"
As she spoke, before Damian could react, she quickly took a step back, slammed the fire escape door shut, and swiftly locked it.
