743 Using the Backdoor
743 Using the Backdoor
When he heard the woman's arrogant and disdainful words, Liu Yao, the Vice President of the Music Association, became even more unwilling to get involved in this matter.
He raised an eyebrow at Qin Man and snorted. "Do you think that I am concerned about the money?"
"Of course not!" Teacher Zhang interjected hurriedly with a forced smile. He glanced at Qin Man, silently telling her not to speak any further.
His Senior Brother held a top position in one of the most prestigious organizations in the country, so he certainly wasn't lacking in finances.
Unfortunately, it was apparent that Qin Man had already angered Liu Yao with her tactless behavior.
As for the woman herself, she harrumphed and turned away in disgust.
"If it had been anyone else, I wouldn't even entertain this matter, let alone consider it. If I do as you requested, it wouldn't be fair to the other students. Furthermore, the Cabinet Elders are currently visiting. It will be all the more impossible for me to carry out such… unethical methods. Do you understand?"
Vice President Liu's tone was cold and firm. No matter what, they weren't getting what they wanted.
If it had been in the past, perhaps he would have given it a try. But with the elders around, he didn't dare to risk his position for other people.
"We will reward you with another 10 million," Qin Man declared. She shot up to her feet and grabbed her purse, her face filled with contempt. "That should be enough, right?"
Yao Ran reached over and tugged at her mother's sleeve to get her to shut up.
"What are you doing?" Qin Man hissed. "Don't tell me you're backing out with your tail between your legs?"
Liu Yao finally had enough of the woman's behavior. He stood up and glared at Qin Man. "Please leave. As I have said, it is impossible for me to grant your request. Feel free to find someone else if you like."
He walked around the table and pulled Teacher Zhang up before pushing him in the direction of the door.
When Teacher Zhang saw Liu Yao's dark expression, he knew that the man was truly incensed. He immediately cupped his hands and said in an apologetic tone, "Understood, Senior Brother. Then, we will be taking our leave. Please have a good rest. I shall find another time to meet up with you so that we can catch up."
But of course, Qin Man wasn't about to budge. She had never been chased out of a room before. How dare this person do such a thing to her?
"Mom," Yao Ran said through gritted teeth as she struggled to contain her own rage. She pulled her mother toward the door. "Do you still want me to take part in the assessment?"
Qin Man seemed to return to her senses after hearing this. The most important thing at the moment was for Yao Ran to secure another chance to participate in the assessment. Everything else was secondary, even her pride.
"Forgive me, Vice President Liu," Qin Man said in a much calmer voice. "I got carried away just now and acted inappropriately. Please do not take my words to heart. I sincerely hope that you can give Ranran another chance. She is about to take the college entrance exams, and passing the assessment would go a long way in helping her overall score."
Basically, being accepted to the Music Association would increase the student's aptitude records.
If Yao Ran was able to pull it off, her exam scores would certainly soar as well.
Just then, Yao Tang and her mentors happened to be passing by, and they heard everything Qin Man had just said.
Qin Man also caught sight of the other party. Her upper lip twitched as she tried to keep a bitter sneer from showing.
Yao Tang, that girl she never cared for, had passed the assessment with ease.
Yao Ran, on the other hand, the child she had carefully nurtured since birth, did not.
Worse, Yao Ran had made her lose face in public. Qin Man even had to lower her head in front of so many people, and yet they were nowhere close to success.
If it had been Yao Tang…
If she had chosen Yao Tang from the start, would she have had to endure this much humiliation?
Qin Man felt a pang of regret at the thought.
At that point, Elder Xu had already noticed Teacher Zhang. He was the one who prevented Yao Ran from passing the assessment, so he naturally recognized the girl.
Elder Xu took in the scene before him and pieced it together with what they had heard. He narrowed his eyes at Yao Ran and her companions.
"So you guys tried using the backdoor, huh? You're still young, but you opted to resort to underhanded tricks instead of relying on your own capabilities. You shameless hypocrites!"
Beside him, Elder Wang and Elder Li looked both outraged and disappointed.
This was a blatant disrespect to the Cabinet and the regulations they had established.
Liu Yao froze in place, stunned to see the three elders at such an unfortunate time. He rushed forward to explain and defuse the situation, but Qin Man beat him to it.
These old geezers had come out of nowhere and proceeded to berate them without warning. She was livid.
"How dare you call us hypocrites! So what if we're using the backdoor? Didn't Yao Tang do the same with you people?"
