Chapter 431: Chapter 432: Expose the Truth
Sienna Johnson walked towards the two people wearing mourning clothes. They stared at Sienna for a moment before bursting into tears.
The child’s mother wailed inconsolably, her words punctuated by sobs, "My poor son... Give me back my son’s life!"
"You heartless bosses, all you care about is making money, never caring about human lives! You’ll get your retribution!" the woman cursed without holding back.
As a mother herself, Sienna could understand the grief of losing a child. Although they were on opposing sides now, she wasn’t angry at the child’s mother’s words.
Sienna stopped about ten steps away from them, fearing their intense emotions could lead them to do something drastic.
When she got out of the car, she had already asked Vivian Abbey to call the police. No matter what, they had to calm the situation first and wait for the police to arrive.
"Hello, I am the legal representative of this pharmaceutical factory. You mentioned your son passed away after taking medicine from our factory. May I ask where you purchased this medicine? And can you confirm that it was indeed manufactured by our factory?"
The man said emotionally, "You want to deny it?"
"The medicine is produced by your factory! Don’t even think about denying it! I’m telling you, if you don’t give me an explanation today, I’ll find justice for my son myself!" The man was too emotional to communicate rationally.
"We have nothing to lose! If you don’t give our son justice today, our whole family will die right here!"
The man pulled out a dagger, and the onlookers retreated, revealing Sienna.
"Please calm down!"
"My son is dead, how can I be calm? Stop your nonsense!"
"I’m asking questions because I want to solve the problem. We can’t just take your word that our factory’s medicine killed two people and accept the blame without asking any questions, can we?" Sienna said gently.
"Our son died because he took your medicine!" the woman insisted.
Sienna asked, "What illness did your son have?"
The couple stammered, leaving Sienna puzzled. Such a simple question, why did it take them so long to answer?
She looked at the person lying on the ground, feeling that something was off.
"So, which hospital did you go to? Who was the attending doctor? ..."
"This should be considered a medical incident. There are specialized institutions for handling such cases. They will issue you an official report, and with that, you can follow legal procedures..."
"Shut up! You’re all in this together! I don’t believe your lies!" the man roared.
"Actually, medicine can be a cure if used correctly. But if used incorrectly, it can also be dangerous."
"You come here claiming our medicine killed people, and I feel wronged! Medicine can be deadly if misused. It’s like a knife; a knife can kill, but you can’t say it’s the knife’s fault, can you?"
Sienna didn’t know if they understood, but she was also speaking for the reporters and the watching crowd.
"You... You’re twisting words!"
"The weather is so hot; keeping the child here isn’t a solution. Can we find a cooler place to talk? I’m pregnant too. If I keep standing in this sun, I’ll pass out."
"You rich people always use money to bully others! Talking privately, isn’t that just your way of trying to pay us off? We won’t go! We demand an explanation!"
"What kind of explanation do you want?"
The man hesitated, unable to articulate a clear reason, and Sienna grew more confused. Could it be that he wanted to kill her to avenge his child?
The police arrived just then. Hearing the siren, the man’s gaze towards Sienna changed, and he cursed, "You bitch, you dare call the police? Believe it or not, I’ll stab you!"
"Arguing like this won’t solve anything! Now that the police are here, you should report this to them directly. We’ll go through the legal process. If the problem is on our end, our Eastminster Pharmaceutical Factory will absolutely not shirk responsibility."
"Bitch, the police are on your side! Of course, they’ll side with you!"
The man raised his dagger and lunged at Sienna. But before she could dodge, he somehow stumbled and fell, his forehead hitting the ground with a loud PLOP. It looked like a hard hit.
"What’s going on?" The police arrived, and the crowd automatically made way.
Vivian Abbey went over and recounted the events. After listening, one of the officers said to Sienna, "All of you, come with me to the Police Station!"
Sienna frowned. What was wrong with this police officer? He hadn’t arrested the troublemakers. Instead, he wanted to take her. She wasn’t willing to go to the Police Station.
Sienna knew the Police Chief. However, they were currently conducting integrity training. Calling him now would only cause trouble for both the Chief and herself.
Vivian Abbey said, "These people are causing trouble! Why aren’t you arresting them? Why take our President Johnson to the Police Station too?"
"I’m taking you in to understand the situation. Stop your nonsense! Believe it or not, I’ll arrest you too!"
Sienna felt this police officer was out of his mind. The reporters’ cameras were still rolling. Wasn’t he afraid of being exposed online?
"Alright, alright, everyone disperse!"
The onlookers, seeing there was no more excitement to watch, gradually dispersed.
"What are you still standing around for? You, and you, get in the police car!"
"Don’t you dare touch her! President Johnson is pregnant. If you hurt her, can you bear the responsibility?" Vivian Abbey said angrily.
"Quite the attitude, huh? You think you’re so great just because you have some stinking money?"
Suddenly, a realization flashed through Sienna’s mind. Her gaze fell on the person lying on the ground. The weather was scorching hot, and Amos Carter had said they had been kneeling here for an hour. How could a body, exposed to the sun for an hour, not give off any smell?
When Sienna was in college, her mentor, Ray Houston, also worked as a forensic doctor for the police department. When he was too busy, he would bring students to assist. Since no one else was willing to go due to the gruesome nature of autopsies, Sienna was often pushed to take on the task.
After death, a body changes every minute. Ray Houston had even conducted an experiment with her, recording the stages of decomposition at different temperatures. The smell, even with a mask, was unbearable...
She walked over and sniffed the body closely. Still, there was no odor.
Something was wrong!
Sienna suddenly pulled the white cloth off the "corpse." Everyone gasped. The women, in particular, covered their faces, unable to look.
Seeing the "corpse" lying on the ground, Sienna laughed.
"What is this?"
"This is too much!"
Indeed, it’s too much! Sienna silently agreed.
