Chapter 345: Chapter 346: The Ugly Wife is Going to Meet Her In-Laws
"Don’t worry. I’m just taking you on our honeymoon; I won’t keep you trapped in Abyanabad and prevent you from returning." Adrian Desmond laughed, having seen right through her little scheme.
Sienna Johnson glared at him. "I don’t want to have our honeymoon in Abyanabad. Let’s choose another place. If it were up to me, I’d choose Serenora City. It’s not far, and it would be perfect for taking Curly to have some fun."
"We’re going to Abyanabad!" Adrian Desmond insisted.
Sienna Johnson said unhappily, "If you’ve already decided, why bother asking me? On the day we leave, you might as well just tie me up and force me onto the plane."
"Well, the truth is, I’ve been away from Abyanabad for too long and have a lot of work to handle there. That’s why I decided on Abyanabad for our honeymoon. Besides, there are many fun places around Abyanabad..."
Sienna Johnson had no good impression of Southeast Agaia; in fact, she harbored a deep-rooted fear of it.
"What if we run into traffickers again? What if I get kidnapped? Abyanabad is terrifying..."
"Abyanabad isn’t scary, and neither am I. As long as you behave, I can protect you. Think about it: haven’t all the times you’ve been in danger been because you ran off on your own?"
"How long will we be gone?"
"A month!"
"A month? No way, that’s too long! I have a ton of things going on at my company. If I’m gone that long, it’ll descend into chaos." Sienna Johnson shook her head.
"We’ll leave the day after tomorrow. I’ll give you one day to sort out your work." Adrian Desmond made the decision without considering her opinion. Sienna Johnson’s expression darkened, and she stared out the car window, saying nothing more.
"Are you sulking again?"
He reached over, took her hand, and pulled her into his embrace. She didn’t resist, but she didn’t respond either. She was clearly unhappy.
"There’s a saying: no matter what, a new bride must eventually meet her in-laws. You’re my wife now, so you have to pay respects to my parents at their grave. Don’t you agree?"
"But we don’t have to go for a whole month. A month is really too long... Adrian, I genuinely have so much work waiting for me."
"We only get married and go on a honeymoon once in a lifetime. You can indulge yourself this once."
"Sigh..."
「In the study,」
Sienna Johnson wore glasses, her hair casually held up with a jade hairpin. She was rapidly working through her backlog of tasks. She knew she wouldn’t be able to finish it all in one day, so she’d have to work remotely via phone and video calls later.
"Mom, why aren’t you and Dad taking me with you when you go out to have fun?"
Without looking up, Sienna Johnson replied, "We’re going on our honeymoon. Have you ever heard of a honeymoon with a little third wheel?"
"But I want to go too."
If they were going somewhere else, Sienna Johnson would have brought Curly along. But this time, they were going to Abyanabad. Who knew if Adrian Desmond would suddenly change his mind and not let her return? Leaving Curly in Sileria City was her insurance that Adrian Desmond would have to return.
"Maybe next time."
"Mom, you’re lying to me again."
"If I’m lying, I’m a little puppy."
"Mom, you’re already a little puppy then! You’ve lied to me many times."
Sienna Johnson needed to call Vivian Abbey, so she told Curly, "Sweetie, can you go play by yourself for a while? Mommy’s a little busy."
"Mom, I don’t like you anymore!" Curly hugged her teddy bear and ran out of the room, heartbroken.
Sienna Johnson was going to Abyanabad, and Lucas Robertson would accompany her. Sienna Johnson had prepared for the worst. If Adrian Desmond really tried to forcibly keep her in Abyanabad, at least with Lucas Robertson there, she would feel a little more secure.
Kiki came to find Lucas Robertson, giving him all the money she had saved and asking him to donate it to the orphanage. She had grown up in an orphanage. It was a tradition there for children who had grown up and left to give back if they were able. Though not mandatory, this tradition had always been upheld. Now that Kiki was living with Sienna Johnson, she had no worries about food or clothing, so the money was of little use to her. Since Lucas Robertson was returning to Abyanabad, Kiki wanted him to give the money to Dean Barnes at the orphanage.
Ever since Mina arrived, Lucas Robertson had rented a one-bedroom apartment for her in the Dragon Court Residence Complex. He would often have dinner with Mina but always returned to his own place to sleep.
Huh, why isn’t the door locked? Kiki wondered, gently pushing the door open. She saw the two of them hugging. Kiki froze, her face instantly turning red. "S-sorry..."
Kiki hurriedly retreated.
"Kiki!"
Lucas Robertson rushed after her, catching Kiki just as she was about to enter the elevator. He stopped her, hurriedly explaining, "It’s not what you think!"
Kiki looked at him calmly, though she felt a little embarrassed. "I’m sorry, I didn’t realize... I’m sorry..."
"It’s not what you think!" Lucas Robertson explained urgently, terrified she would misunderstand. "There was water on the floor just now, and Mina slipped and fell into my arms. It was a misunderstanding. Please, don’t let your imagination run wild."
Kiki handed him the bag. "I came looking for you to ask for a favor. You’re going to Abyanabad with Sienna Johnson tomorrow, right? Could you please give this money to Dean Barnes of the Saint Infant Welfare House?"
"Kiki, Mina and I are not dating..." Lucas Robertson continued to explain.
"Mina is really nice. I heard she looks a lot like your late fiancée. Mina even told me she likes you. I think you two would make a good couple."
Lucas Robertson stared at Kiki, searching her eyes for any trace of jealousy, but there was none. Kiki faced him with a serene expression, which only made him feel sordid.
"Mina and I? That’s impossible!" Lucas Robertson said firmly.
Kiki sighed, not knowing what to say. In Lucas Robertson’s heart, there was only his deceased fiancée; he couldn’t accept any other woman. It seemed Mina was destined for heartbreak.
"How are things between you and Samuel Palmer?"
"Samuel? We’re doing very well. Curly was fussing about wanting to go with Sienna Johnson to Abyanabad, but since Sienna isn’t taking her, Samuel and I promised to take her to the beach. Do you like seafood? I can bring some back for you then."
A bitter taste filled Lucas Robertson’s mouth. "You can know a person’s face but not their heart. You’re so naive; you’ll be fooled by some man sooner or later."
Kiki laughed. "Samuel wouldn’t do that..."
"How do you know he wouldn’t?" Lucas Robertson retorted irritably.
"Because Samuel is just as naive as I am." She smiled, a smile as captivating as flowers in April, and it enchanted Lucas Robertson’s heart. Kiki was beautiful; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been kidnapped by traffickers all those years ago.
An itch spread through Lucas Robertson’s heart, and he felt a wave of irritation. As Kiki and Samuel Palmer grew closer, Lucas felt increasingly powerless. He knew then that he was falling in love with this beautiful, innocent, and kindhearted woman.
"Kiki... I love you..."
Kiki’s smile froze. The bag of money she was holding slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor.
"I... I know you were very angry when I rejected you back then... C-could you... give me another chance? I... I truly like you..."
