Chapter 331: Chapter 332: The Destroyed Wedding
Bridal chamber, red candles, red lovebirds pillows, lovebirds quilt. Sienna Johnson, in a red dress, sat with a red veil covering her face, waiting for the bridegroom to lift it with the Ruyi steelyard and seal their blissful union.
Inside the bridal chamber, quite a few people were watching the wedding ceremony with excitement. Curly, brought by Samara, was having fun collecting peanuts, walnuts, and candies.
The chubby matron of honor, with a blessed look on her face, handed a red weighing beam to the groom and said, "Weighing beam star, weighing beam bright, with one stretch, pick a blessing! New groom, please use this weighing beam star to select the auspicious stars of the two families! Pick the blissful future of the loving couple! With one swing to the left, you’ll get your heart’s desire; one swing to the right, you’ll get elegance and dignity; one swing straight ahead, you’ll get a beautiful pair like a lotus emerging from the water."
Underneath the red veil, Sienna’s hands were clenched nervously together. She didn’t know how it happened, but at this very moment, she was actually feeling anxious. She and Adrian Desmond had been together for so long, they were practically an old married couple; she didn’t understand what there was to be nervous about.
Not only Sienna was nervous; Adrian was too.
He was not familiar with Oriental-style weddings. Although he had diligently familiarized himself with the wedding process beforehand, he was still nervous now that the actual ceremony was underway.
The woman sitting in front of him, her face hidden by the red veil, was the one he had longed to marry for many years. Today, his dream was finally coming true. How could Adrian not be excited?
"New groom, please use this weighing beam star to pick the auspicious stars of the two families!" Grandma Joy prompted him again when Adrian didn’t move.
"Oh, okay." Adrian seemed a bit dumbfounded. He took the red weighing beam in his hand; it felt as heavy as if it weighed a thousand pounds.
He took a deep breath. Slowly, he lifted a corner of the red veil, gradually revealing the lotus-like face beneath. Adrian held his breath. As the veil was fully lifted, Sienna looked up and smiled sweetly at him. Adrian was dumbstruck.
He knew how beautiful she was, but at this moment, her beauty utterly captivated him, stealing his very soul.
"Sienna!"
Sienna’s lips curled into a charming smile, her eyes shining like brilliant stars. She smiled at Adrian and then lowered her head.
Grandma Joy announced, "Blessings to the newlyweds! May all your wishes come true. On this auspicious day, at this wonderful time, may every moment be to your satisfaction. The bride and groom will now share the nuptial wine, to live together through thick and thin, until your hair turns white."
Kiki brought over two cups of wine. Adrian picked up one cup from the tray, and Grandma Joy recited, "May your happy life be like flowers on brocade." Sienna picked up the other cup, and Grandma Joy continued, "May your deep love for each other reveal your true hearts."
"Exchange the nuptial cups! Clink them together! May this clink forge a marriage for the ages!" Grandma Joy then instructed.
Sienna and Adrian each took a cup, linked arms, and as Adrian gazed at Sienna’s blushing face, they slowly drank the wine.
"Now, the bride and groom will eat the ’descendant dumplings’ together!" Grandma Joy declared. "May they eat their way to generations of offspring and a future filled with fortune, prosperity, and luck!"
The dumplings were raw. Sienna took a bite of one, and Grandma Joy asked with a knowing smile, "Is it raw?"
Sienna’s face turned red, and she said softly, "Raw."
Everyone in the room burst into laughter. Henry Evans chuckled, "Curly, come here! Your mom just said she’s going to give you a little brother."
"I don’t want a brother! I want a sister! A little sister!" Curly protested, lifting her skirt to reveal a collection of various red-dyed fruits she had gathered.
Adrian and Sienna looked at their daughter, their eyes filled with unconcealable happiness. After searching for so many years, Adrian felt his life was finally complete.
「...」
Although it was an Oriental-style wedding, as the heiress of the Johnson Family, Sienna couldn’t avoid greeting the guests.
Sienna took off her wedding gown and changed into a qipao-style reception dress, also in bright red. On her head rested a golden corolla, exquisitely carved, with rubies forming the flower’s center. All the formal attire Sienna wore that day had been personally selected by Adrian, and she loved every piece.
"This dress is beautiful too," Adrian murmured, his eyes full of admiration.
"My wife is beautiful; she looks great in anything," he added with a proud smile.
A charming glint in her eyes, Sienna glanced at Adrian. He leaned in to kiss her cheek. "You look absolutely stunning today. Even when I’m very old and can’t remember anything, I’ll still remember how you look today!"
"And when I’m very old and forgetful," Sienna replied softly, "I’ll remember you today too!"
Adrian, now in a dark suit, stood beside Sienna in her red dress. They looked like a perfect couple, and when they stepped out hand in hand, they mesmerized the entire room.
"Congratulations on your wedding, President Johnson."
"Thank you."
"Congratulations, congratulations."
"Thank you."
"Wishing the bride and groom a hundred years of happiness together."
"Thank you, everyone."
Sienna walked among the guests, her radiant smile gathering blessings from everyone, outshining even the crystal chandeliers that illuminated the night.
Adrian’s hand rested on her slender waist, his tender gaze filled with adoration for his beautiful wife. Sienna, in her vibrant red dress, was so breathtakingly beautiful that even Melanie Carpenter, herself a woman, couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy. As Melanie walked in, leading her son by the hand, she was met with this heartbreaking scene.
"Dad..." Devin Desmond’s small voice suddenly cut through the joyous atmosphere of the evening.
Melanie nudged her son. "Hurry, go find your dad."
Devin idolized Adrian. In his young eyes, Adrian was like a god, and Devin was immensely proud to have such an impressive father.
"Dad!" Devin ran over and hugged Adrian’s leg. "Dad, where have you been? Why haven’t you come to see me anymore?"
Adrian’s frosty gaze swept over him. Devin’s small body trembled, but he didn’t let go. He remembered what his mother had told him: Dad was going to marry another woman, and if he didn’t take Dad home today, Dad would never want them again.
No! He didn’t want to lose his dad!
"Dad, please don’t marry another woman, okay?" Devin pleaded, his voice thick with unshed tears. "Dad, can we go home? I miss you..."
As a vulnerable child, Devin easily evoked sympathy, especially since he looked so fragile and pitiful.
Sienna was aware of Devin’s existence. Her gaze fell on his face, and when the boy sensed her looking, he glared back at her, his eyes full of hostility. She didn’t know what Melanie had told the child, but it certainly wasn’t anything good.
"Let go!" Adrian commanded coldly to the child.
"Dad!" Devin burst into tears but clung even tighter to Adrian’s leg, refusing to release his grip.
For a moment, the entire wedding venue fell silent, the only sound being the child’s heart-wrenching sobs.
"How many times do I have to tell you? I am not your dad!" Adrian’s face was contorted with rage. He shot a glare at Melanie, the coldness in his eyes like a knife, slowly twisting within her.
Tears welled in Melanie Carpenter’s eyes as she put on the facade of a pitiful, abandoned woman. "Sixth Brother," she choked out, "you’re marrying Miss Johnson; what are Devin and I supposed to do?"
"You should ask Jule!" Adrian retorted ruthlessly.
Melanie had come to the wedding specifically to cause trouble for Sienna. Four years ago, Sienna had ruined her wedding; four years later, she intended to ruin Sienna’s in return. Even if she couldn’t ruin it completely, she would at least make Sienna a laughingstock!
