Chapter 407 - 408: The Woman with No Sense of Security

Adrian Desmond’s phone rang. Seeing it was Aaron Faber calling, he answered, listened to Aaron’s report, and then hung up.

Adrian said to Sienna Johnson, "I have some matters to deal with. You go home first, and I’ll come back when I’m done."

Sienna looked at him in surprise. It was rare for Adrian, who was usually very clingy, to suddenly leave her to attend to his own affairs.

"Alright," Sienna said. "You take care of your business. Don’t worry about me; I can take care of myself."

Adrian, still concerned, said, "My phone will always be on, so call me if you need anything."

"Okay," she confirmed.

"I’m leaving now."

"Alright."

Sienna asked Mr. Leonard to pull the car over to the side of the road. Adrian glanced at her, his worry still evident, but he eventually got out of her car and into the bodyguards’ vehicle that had been following them, which then drove off.

With Adrian gone, Sue White’s curiosity about his identity grew. She spoke more freely now, "Your husband is no ordinary man, is he? What’s his background?"

"He’s considered quite an influential figure in Abyanabad, you could say."

Sue looked at her in amazement. Sienna had always been a model student—never smoking, never drinking, solely focused on her studies. When exam results were announced, Sienna always shone brightest; her grades were consistently number one. She was the epitome of a beautiful scholar.

Studying Sienna’s expression, Sue asked, "He didn’t force you into this, did he?"

"He did at first," Sienna admitted. "But he’s helped me a lot and even saved my life."

"So, you married him to repay his kindness?"

"Haven’t you noticed how handsome Adrian is? And so manly! It’s not like I’m losing out by marrying him," Sienna said with a chuckle.

"You’re not that superficial!"

"Alright, fine. I love Adrian, despite all his flaws. Don’t ask me why; love is often irrational," Sienna confessed.

Sue was momentarily speechless.

Sienna then added playfully, "Don’t tell him I said that, or he’ll get conceited."

Sue observed Sienna’s expression—it was one only a woman immersed in and nurtured by love could have. It was clear that Sienna and Adrian were in love, even if their temperaments seemed quite different.

"I never imagined you’d choose this type of man."

"When fate arrives, you can’t stop it."

Sienna was deeply grateful to Adrian. With so much happening in her life, she didn’t know if she could have endured it all without him by her side. She gently touched her flat stomach, feeling a surge of strength. She wasn’t afraid; no matter what happened, she wouldn’t be afraid.

Remembering her own experiences, Sue White offered a somewhat sobering reminder, "Men’s emotions can change easily. Don’t let love blind you..."

Sienna’s smile faltered a little. Sue quickly added, "Of course, my experiences don’t necessarily mean anything. Maybe Adrian is an exception."

"Actually," Sienna began, "I’m a very insecure person. I force myself to believe in Adrian, to believe that he will love me for a lifetime. But reality tells me that lifelong love is rarer than Panda Species. Adrian is so good to me, so good that I often get carried away and just want to rely on him completely, to be his little woman. But another part of me constantly reminds me that in this world, you can’t truly rely on anyone but yourself. I should be an eagle soaring in the sky, able to spread my wings and fly freely, not a domesticated chicken raised by Adrian, forgetting my innate ability to fly. If one day I faced a cliff, having forgotten how to fly, I would be dashed to pieces..."

Sue White smiled at Sienna and said earnestly, "Sienna, you are a smart woman. You will live a better life than I did and will never suffer my tragic fate!"

"I don’t know what the future holds," Sienna mused, "but I’m willing to trust Adrian. If, for some reason, we were to part ways one day, I would try to forgive him and wish him well..."

Sue’s worries for Sienna completely vanished. Sienna’s perspective on love was mature; she was immersed in it but hadn’t lost herself. Even if she were to lose Adrian one day, she would still manage to live well.

"Let’s not dwell on this anymore," Sienna said, changing the subject. "Let’s talk about the case. You might laugh, but this case has given me sleepless nights. I’m afraid Adrian will notice, so at night, I’m so on edge I barely dare to toss and turn in my sleep..."

Sue laughed. "Believe me, as long as Herbert Young doesn’t resort to despicable tactics, I can definitely win this case!"

"If you win, in addition to the legal fees we agreed upon, I’ll definitely give you a big red envelope," Sienna promised.

"For that big red envelope, I’ll certainly work hard!"

They both laughed.

Adrian Desmond got into the bodyguards’ car and instructed Walter Klein to drive towards the Police Station.

On the way, Adrian remarked, "He couldn’t hold on this quickly? I thought he could last a while longer."

Walter Klein replied, "He’s just a pampered rich kid who’s never known hardship. What resilience would he have?"

Originally, the Stewart Family had prepared their passports and planned to flee Abroad. However, Adrian learned of their plans and cut off their escape route. The delay meant William Stewart and Frederick Stewart ended up on the police’s wanted list, making it impossible for the Stewart Family to flee Abroad through customs.

After such a long time on the run, Frederick Stewart couldn’t endure the torment any longer and had decided to turn himself in.

With Sabrina Johnson’s trial approaching its second hearing, there was no way Adrian would allow Frederick to surrender at this juncture. Sabrina’s case had to be resolved first.

Just as they were approaching the Police Station, Aaron Faber called Adrian Desmond to inform him that they had intercepted Frederick Stewart.

From the back seat, enveloped in darkness, Adrian asked curtly, "Coordinates!"

Aaron reported the coordinates, and Adrian instructed Walter Klein to drive there.

「 」

They arrived at an Abandoned Chemical Plant. This was where Aiden Howard and Aaron Faber had intercepted Frederick Stewart and were now holding him.

The car drove directly into the plant, its headlights flooding the area, making it as bright as day. Frederick Stewart lay on the ground, blindfolded and gagged. He had clearly been roughed up; his body bore injuries, and his face was a mess of bruises.

Adrian Desmond walked over and looked down at the man. The long period on the run had left Frederick extremely emaciated. His hair was long, filthy, and greasy from neglect. Adrian frowned, a flicker of distaste in his eyes, and brought a handkerchief to his nose.

"What a state. He looks like a beggar," Adrian commented, his voice laced with contempt.

He circled the unconscious man. Perhaps, if not for this man, I might never have met Sienna, Adrian thought. But he tried to harm Sienna multiple times. There’s no way I can let him off the hook.
