Chapter 404 - 405: The Two-faced and Treacherous Woman
Chapter 404 - 405: The Two-faced and Treacherous Woman
Yvette Harris’s eyes darted around before she said, seemingly casually, "Master Leland, they’re taking advantage of your kindness. Sienna Johnson is Sabrina Johnson’s sister, and you didn’t make things difficult for her out of consideration for Sabrina. You hoped everyone could resolve the issue calmly and peacefully. But this Sienna Johnson, she truly doesn’t appreciate goodwill and is even foolishly trying to hit a stone with an egg..."
Master Leland remained silent.
"Master Leland, you should show some decisiveness! Grab that Sienna Johnson and teach her a harsh lesson! I’d like to see if she still dares to be so arrogant!"
Yvette Harris carefully observed Master Leland’s expression. Seeing that he remained silent, apparently considering her words, Yvette grew bolder and spoke with less restraint.
"Master Leland, that Sienna Johnson is like a newborn calf that doesn’t fear a tiger; all this trouble is her doing. Not only did she slander Sabrina online, but now she’s dragged me into it too! Look at what the newspapers are saying—are those things a young woman should be doing?"
Master Leland still said nothing.
"That Sienna Johnson wants to destroy Sabrina, and destroy your son, Master Leland! If people find out that the biological mother of your son is that kind of person, how will your son ever hold his head high in the future?"
Yvette Harris knew Master Leland cared about the child in Sabrina’s womb, so she used the unborn child—whose sex was still unknown—to make her point.
"From what I see of Sienna Johnson’s ruthlessness, her next presumptuous move will be to target you, Master Leland!"
Master Leland offered no response.
"Master Leland, you can’t afford to be soft-hearted anymore! When dealing with a shameless brat like her, you must show your strength and make her understand what fear truly means!"
Yvette Harris was instigating Master Leland to deal with Sienna Johnson. The reason he hadn’t silenced Yvette was that, deep down, he harbored the same thought.
For years, since his retirement, he had lived a life of self-cultivation, and his temperament had indeed become much more amiable than before. He figured it was because of this image he projected that Sienna Johnson had become so audacious, not taking him seriously at all.
"Master Leland, are you angry? I was just spouting nonsense earlier, please don’t mind me. You know I’m just an ignorant woman, all I know is shopping and beauty treatments. Words just tumble out of my mouth without thinking; please don’t lower yourself to my level, Master Leland."
Yvette Harris had been with countless men; she knew what they liked. No matter the man, they all enjoyed being put on a pedestal by women.
So, Yvette Harris deliberately humbled herself. Clearly, a man like Master Leland also fell for this kind of act.
"Yvette, you’re right. I have been too lenient with Sienna Johnson, and that’s why she has become so insolent!"
Recalling the previous incident at the Tea House, where Sienna Johnson had actually dared to splash tea on his face in public, Master Leland’s expression darkened.
"Exactly! Master Leland, you’re just too kind-hearted. But with those who don’t appreciate favors, you can’t afford to be merciful. You must teach them a harsh lesson, make them understand who they’re dealing with, so they learn it properly and never forget!"
Master Leland said, "I know what to do now."
Yvette Harris was secretly overjoyed but maintained a neutral expression.
"Master Leland, actually, there’s something else I came to ask for your help with."
"What is it?"
Yvette Harris seized the chance to explain the situation, shedding a few aggrieved tears. She said with bitter resentment, "It must have been that Sienna Johnson! The newspapers are writing such slander about me, and now even my closest friends are avoiding me."
Master Leland frowned. "I understand."
"Master Leland, you must help me get justice!"
Yvette Harris knew to quit while she was ahead. She wiped her tears and promptly fell silent just as Master Leland was beginning to show his annoyance. She had only brought it up briefly before him and said no more.
"Master Leland, I won’t keep you from your work. I’m going to the Police Station to see Sabrina. The poor girl has never endured much hardship; I wonder how she’s coping." As she spoke, her eyes reddened, and anyone who didn’t know better would have thought her a devoted mother, deeply concerned for her daughter.
Master Leland knew Sabrina Johnson wasn’t doing well at the Police Station; no amount of coaxing seemed to help. He was also worried about the child in Sabrina’s womb. So, upon hearing that Yvette Harris was going to visit Sabrina, he said, pleased, "You are Sabrina’s mother, after all. When you have time, please visit her more often. Sabrina has been very distraught lately. I’m genuinely worried that if this continues, it could endanger the child she’s carrying."
"Sabrina is just young and doesn’t know any better, Master Leland. For the sake of the child she’s carrying, please try to be more patient with her."
"Sigh... It’s not entirely Sabrina’s fault. Any young woman in her situation would be terrified. Besides, she’s pregnant, and a pregnant woman’s emotions are naturally unstable."
"That’s also a testament to your good temper, Master Leland. If it were any other man, with Sabrina carrying on like this, he would have washed his hands of her long ago." Yvette Harris flattered Master Leland, and her words were clearly music to his ears.
Master Leland nodded slowly.
"Well, Master Leland, I’ll go see Sabrina now. I’ll certainly do my best to talk some sense into her."
"Go on then."
After a moment, Master Leland added, "Have the Driver take you."
Yvette Harris hadn’t expected Master Leland to show her such consideration and couldn’t help but feel a surge of secret delight. She said happily, "Then, thank you, Master Leland."
"Counsel Sabrina properly, tell her to stay calm and not be agitated. Let her know I’ll get her out of there as soon as possible."
"I will."
Yvette Harris left, beaming.
「At the Police Station.」
When Yvette Harris met Sabrina Johnson, she wore a completely different mask. Gone was the fawning, submissive woman; in her place stood someone adopting the haughty airs of a grand dame, looking down her nose at Sabrina.
"You’re both pregnant, so why is there such a stark difference? That Sienna Johnson is pregnant too, yet she still looks as beautiful as a little pixie. But look at you—it’s as if you’ve aged ten years overnight..."
Sabrina remained silent.
"And you even had the gall to complain that Master Leland is too old. If you keep carrying on like this, when people see you two together, they won’t even notice an age gap."
Sabrina Johnson was indeed having a wretched time. Her once-thick hair had thinned, and pregnancy spots now marred her complexion. The immense stress had left her terribly gaunt; her cheekbones protruded sharply, lending her features a harsh, almost cruel, cast.
Sabrina Johnson stared coldly at the impeccably dressed, radiant Yvette Harris before her and asked, "Did you come here just to gloat over how miserable I am?"
"I came because Master Leland asked me to check on you. Sabrina, I advise you to use your head. These little dramas of yours? They only work because of that ’piece of flesh’ in your womb! If you keep this up and manage to lose that baby, then, Sabrina, you could cry yourself to death in this jail, and no one would spare you a second glance!"
Sabrina trembled with rage.
"Get out! I don’t want to see your face!"
"Sabrina Johnson, do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused me? My entire past has been dredged up! All these years, the perfect image I worked so hard to build—you’ve ruined it all!"
