Chapter 342 - 343: The First Day After the Wedding
Chapter 342 - 343: The First Day After the Wedding
The phone rang; it was Adrian Desmond’s ringtone.
It was only then that Adrian realized it was time to get off work. In the morning, he had promised Sienna Johnson that he would pick her up. The call was probably from Sienna.
Adrian lost interest in playing cat and mouse with Arnold Cooper. He pinned Arnold to the ground and punched him repeatedly. Adrian’s fists were hard. They struck like hammers, the impact sending pain deep into the bones.
Arnold Cooper was no good boy. He had fought countless times growing up, always the one to leave others beaten. But this time, he was the one being pummeled, with no strength to fight back.
Adrian’s aura was unlike that of an ordinary person. The murderous energy he exuded could cow the weak, then slowly devour them.
"Stop hitting me! I... I surrender!" Arnold Cooper stammered. He felt like he was about to die; this man genuinely intended to kill him.
Adrian grabbed Arnold Cooper’s head and forcefully smashed it onto the ground. THUD. Arnold saw stars, a large gash now on his forehead.
Grabbing his hair, Adrian yanked Arnold’s head up. "Whose woman is Sienna Johnson?"
"Yours, Brother."
"Do you still like Sienna Johnson?"
"I don’t anymore..." Arnold didn’t dare say he liked her. He had met his match today, a truly ruthless adversary.
"Who’s the cripple?"
"Brother, you’re not the cripple; I am! I’m the cripple! Brother, I won’t dare to again. Please, let me go!"
Adrian released him and stood up. He kicked the man, who lay motionless on the ground. "Don’t let me see you again!" Adrian warned.
Adrian walked over and picked up the clothes from the ground. He took out his phone; the call had disconnected. It had been Sienna. Adrian immediately redialed, but she didn’t answer.
Adrian stepped on Arnold’s back and strode out of the Martial Arts Hall, leaving the blood-covered man lying on the ground.
Seeing the door open, Walter Klein hurried over. His gaze went past Adrian, and he looked inside to see the man lying motionless on the ground.
"Sixth Master, is he still alive?"
"He won’t die, but he’ll have to spend a few months in the hospital."
Arnold Cooper had called him a cripple, and Adrian had made Arnold Cooper a cripple!
...
「Eastminster Group,」
When quitting time arrived, Adrian hadn’t shown up to pick up Sienna. Sienna couldn’t resist calling him, but when the call didn’t go through, she lost the courage to try a second time. Her heart was in turmoil.
Sienna wasn’t as outwardly strong as others perceived. Her aloof exterior masked deep-seated insecurity and timidity. Deep down, she was still that thin, apprehensive thirteen-year-old girl who had first set foot in the Johnson Family home.
Melanie, don’t tell me you succeeded again this time... Sienna laughed bitterly. Some methods were crude, but they were undeniably effective, at least on Adrian; he always fell for them.
If Adrian indulged Melanie again this time, if he chose her, then no matter what he did afterward, Sienna decided she wouldn’t want him anymore.
"President Johnson, why haven’t you left work yet?" Vivian Abbey came in, surprised to see Sienna still in the office.
It seemed only their workaholic President Johnson would come to work the day after her wedding.
"Why are your eyes red? Have you been crying?" Sienna noticed immediately.
Vivian lowered her head. "Secretary Fisher is resigning."
"Oh?"
"There’s some trouble at Worldcraft Group. Secretary Fisher plans to return to Worldcraft to help President Phillips."
Gary Fisher had assumed Sienna would be on her honeymoon after the wedding, so he hadn’t yet found the chance to tell her about his resignation.
The question lingered on the tip of her tongue. Sienna wanted to ask about Noah Phillips, but after a moment’s hesitation, she didn’t. She didn’t dare.
"And you? Are you going back to Worldcraft too?"
Gary Fisher and Vivian Abbey were originally Worldcraft employees. Their relationship was so close they were just one step shy of making it official. With Gary planning to return, Sienna guessed Vivian would likely go too. A headache began to throb. She had grown so used to working with them; if they both left, where would she find replacements she could rely on so well?
"I’m not leaving," Vivian said.
"Did you and Gary have a fight?"
"Not really a fight. He wants me to go back to Worldcraft with him, and I don’t want to."
"Gary likes you; we can all see it. What about you, Vivian? Do you like Gary? If you do, you should settle down with him."
Vivian pouted. "I haven’t seen any sign that he likes me. He’s got such a sharp tongue, always mocking and belittling me. If I weren’t so thick-skinned, I’d probably be depressed by now.
"When he confessed to me, he had this high-and-mighty attitude, as if his liking me was some great benevolence, and I should be all flattered and gratefully accept him... Hmph! Who does he think he is?!
"If Gary Fisher actually became my boyfriend, wouldn’t I just be asking for trouble?"
Sienna sighed. "No wonder Secretary Fisher hasn’t been able to win Vivian over after all these years. He’s been using completely the wrong approach."
Vivian said, "Anyway, he’s leaving soon, so let’s not talk about him. President Johnson, are you alright? Was that woman at the wedding yesterday really Mr. Desmond’s ex-wife?"
"Yes."
Vivian’s eyes widened. "President Johnson, then are you... really the other woman?"
"To some extent, I suppose..."
Vivian said, "President Johnson, were you deceived by Mr. Desmond? You’re not the kind of person who lacks a moral compass. I can’t believe you’d continue to like Mr. Desmond if you knew he was married."
"In Abyanabad, women have a very low status. When I was in Abyanabad, I had no right to choose! If I could have chosen, I would never have wanted to become involved in the relationship between Adrian and Melanie Carpenter."
Melanie Carpenter was right. I shouldn’t have appeared and met Adrian. I shouldn’t have been saved by him... and I certainly shouldn’t have become emotionally entangled with him.
"From what I can see, Mr. Desmond loves you a lot."
"Let’s not talk about men; it’s giving me a headache. Are you free after work?"
"Yes. Do we have to work overtime?"
Looking at Vivian, Sienna teased, "In your eyes, am I just some kind of slave driver, working the women like men and the men like beasts of burden?"
Vivian laughed without saying anything.
"Let’s go out for dinner and sing..."
Since Adrian still hadn’t arrived after a long wait, Sienna called Leanne Andrews to join them. When it came to eating, drinking, and having fun, no one was more of an expert than Leanne.
Leanne had just woken up from a nap and was planning to pull an all-nighter writing her script when Sienna’s call pulled her away.
Swestein Bar, a women-only establishment.
Leanne brought marinated chicken feet from home, her mom’s secret recipe, and they tasted fantastic. The three women huddled together, unceremoniously gnawing on chicken feet and drinking beer.
"Hey, where’s your man? Didn’t you just get married yesterday? Don’t tell me you divorced today?" Leanne asked.
