Chapter 340 - 341: Childhood Sweethearts and Green Plums

Chapter 340 - 341: Childhood Sweethearts and Green Plums

Owen Hunter asked, "Are you really going to continue taking care of Devin Desmond?"

"I’m his uncle, after all," Adrian Desmond replied. "If he behaves himself and doesn’t cause any trouble, I’m willing to raise him. It’s just a matter of spending a little more money, and I don’t mind. However, if... if he’s as insensible as his mother and father, then I won’t need to feel obligated to our past connection."

"With Melanie Carpenter causing such a scene, your uncle wouldn’t blame you even if he were still alive." Owen Hunter knew that Adrian Desmond’s enduring patience with Melanie Carpenter stemmed from his consideration for his late uncle’s kindness, of whom Devin Desmond was a constant reminder. However, Melanie Carpenter was ungrateful, and her antics only grew worse.

If it had been someone else who caused trouble for Adrian Desmond at his wedding, they would have been wiped off the face of the earth a long time ago.

Over the years, Adrian Desmond had truly done more than enough for Melanie Carpenter.

Owen Hunter patted Adrian Desmond on the shoulder and said, "Go home and comfort your wife. She must be furious."

Adrian Desmond chuckled. "She’s tough. A little incident like this won’t affect her."

"All women are vulnerable; don’t be fooled by their feigned resilience. Spoil her until she’s so unmanageable that no other man can tolerate her, and then she won’t be able to leave you," Owen Hunter imparted his wisdom to Adrian Desmond.

"Indeed, your son has certainly learned from the master." Adrian Desmond looked at George, who was crying so hard he could barely breathe, and laughed.

Owen Hunter was returning to Abyanabad, so George had to leave too. But George was reluctant, holding onto Curly and crying. Much like Sienna Johnson, Curly was also rather heartless, complaining, "Get away from me; you’re dirtying my clothes..."

"Curly, I don’t want to leave you. BOO HOO..."

Aria Harris consoled, "George, don’t cry. Your mom will bring you back when she has time."

"Mom, you and Dad go back. I want to stay here with Curly. My father-in-law’s house is so big; there must be a place for me."

Aria Harris slapped his head. "You stinker, you already have a wife at this age and forgot about your mother."

Curly also said, "George, children should be with their parents. You’d better leave quickly."

"You won’t fall for other boys, will you?" George tearfully looked at Curly, who replied unhappily, "I’m still young, and my mom won’t let me date!"

Finally, George was reassured. "Wait for me. When I grow up, I’ll come to marry you."

"We’ll see." Curly turned to leave, but George grabbed her hand and wouldn’t let go.

"Curly, I can’t bear to part with you."

"You’re so annoying; just go!" Curly pushed him away, and George lost his footing and fell to the ground.

Watching the haughty young Miss, Aria Harris inwardly despaired for her son. Like mother, like daughter; why did her son have to fall for this heartless little girl at first sight? Her own son could be a handful, but seeing him bullied like this made her, as a mother, feel upset. Yet, Curly was Adrian Desmond’s daughter, so she couldn’t say much. Adrian doted on his only daughter; if Aria were to criticize Curly even slightly, Adrian, with his temperament, would likely fall out with her directly.

"Curly..."

Curly walked over to her father and Owen Hunter, then said in a deliberately sweet voice, "Uncle Owen, please take George away quickly. Look at him crying; he’s going to cry himself unconscious."

Owen Hunter looked at Adrian Desmond’s daughter and asked, "Our George has set his sights on you; you can’t fall for other boys."

"Love can’t be forced. I can’t guarantee anything about this," Curly replied with precocious wisdom.

"..."

"Dad, let’s go home," said Curly.

While George was visibly upset and reluctant to leave, Curly appeared quite indifferent.

Adrian Desmond picked up his daughter and said to Owen Hunter, "Thank you. As for Melanie Carpenter and Devin Desmond’s situation, I’ll entrust it to you."

"We’re brothers; there’s no need to be polite."

"You should leave quickly. If you don’t, George might actually cry himself unconscious." Adrian Desmond didn’t know what to say as he looked at George’s pitiful state. His little princess was already making a boy utterly heartbroken for her at such a young age. What would happen when she grew up? Still, he didn’t care how heartbroken other men might be over his daughter, as long as his daughter wasn’t the one suffering heartbreak for a man. Curly’s temperament wasn’t like Sienna Johnson’s at all; she clearly took after him, Adrian Desmond.

Owen Hunter glanced at his son and sighed. "Our son has truly fallen for your daughter Curly."

"..."

"We’re brothers. Keep your daughter well for me; our George will come to propose when he grows up." Seeing that his son genuinely liked Curly, Owen Hunter was trying to reserve her for his son in advance.

However, Adrian Desmond didn’t promise anything. "There’s no use telling me. If George can win Curly’s heart, then I’m naturally happy for them. Otherwise, it just means they’re not destined."

For his precious daughter, even if she wanted the moon, he, Adrian Desmond, would pluck it from the sky for her. If she found someone she liked in the future, he wouldn’t stand in her way. If she didn’t like someone, he certainly wouldn’t force her. As for that Hunter boy, with his sniveling, tear-streaked, pathetic appearance, even if Curly genuinely liked him, Adrian Desmond wouldn’t feel at ease.

Owen Hunter sighed.

Adrian Desmond said to his daughter, "Curly, George is leaving. Go say goodbye to him..."

Curly lounged on Adrian Desmond’s shoulder and lazily waved her hand, saying dismissively, "George, stop crying; your snot is coming out, and it’s disgusting."

"Curly, I don’t want to go home! BOO HOO..."

"All good things must come to an end. Have a safe trip." Curly waved to George and then lay on her father’s shoulder and yawned.

"George, we should go home. Say goodbye to your Uncle Desmond," Owen Hunter said.

"Father-in-law, I’m leaving... I’ll come back to see you and Curly whenever I can."

"I’m not your father-in-law!" Adrian Desmond said with a headache.

"Father-in-law, I can’t bear to leave Curly. BOO HOO..."

Adrian Desmond simply walked away with his daughter, ignoring George, whose train of thought was decidedly unconventional.

Owen Hunter approached and picked up his son, bidding farewell to Adrian Desmond. George’s wailing intensified, and anyone who didn’t know better would think Owen Hunter had beaten him up.

"You stinker, have some backbone! No woman would like you with this wimpy appearance."

"You try parting with the person you love... BOO HOO..."

Owen Hunter: ...

Aria Harris looked at her son with disdain. "When we get back, we should have a DNA test done. I seriously suspect he’s not our biological child."

"I think so too," Owen Hunter agreed.

Unfazed, George asked with red eyes, "If I’m not your biological child, will you let me stay?"

Owen Hunter slapped his son’s butt and scolded, "You little rascal! So, it’s girls over family now, is it? Willing to ditch your parents for a girl!"

"But Curly is so pretty and cute; what if another guy takes her away?"

Aria Harris consoled, "If she’s yours, no one can take her away..."

"Really?"

"If she’s not yours, you can’t get her even if you try..."

"WAH..."
