Chapter 334 - 335: The Groom Who Returned Halfway
Chapter 334 - 335: The Groom Who Returned Halfway
"Sienna, what are you doing?" Pauline Briggs looked at her daughter with disappointment. "Don’t go. Tell me clearly, what is going on between Adrian Desmond and this child’s mother? Did you really destroy someone else’s family and become a mistress?"
Sienna Johnson was speechless looking at her mother. Regardless of whether she had disrupted someone’s family or become a mistress, as her biological mother, her first priority should have been to help conceal the scandal, not to broadcast it at the wedding for everyone to witness.
Instead of asking her privately, Pauline questioned Sienna in front of so many guests, completely disregarding her reputation.
"Madam Johnson, you’re meddling too much!"
She really wished Pauline wouldn’t meddle in her affairs. Sienna preferred it when her mother didn’t care about her, just like before.
"I’m meddling too much?" It was the same excuse. Every time Pauline tried to show concern, Sienna would coldly deflect her with those words. "You’re my daughter! Why shouldn’t I be involved? Look at what happened today; the Johnson family has become a laughingstock!"
"First, there was Kenneth Brown, and now Adrian Desmond... Look at the men you choose... each one more outrageous and more excessive than the last!"
"Do you know what everyone is saying about you now? I’ve lost all face because of you... If I had opposed your marriage to Adrian Desmond from the start, and if you had listened to my advice, we wouldn’t have ended up in this mess today..." Pauline had never been so humiliated in her entire life. She was so angry her face turned red.
"If Madam Johnson feels so humiliated, then perhaps she shouldn’t attend my future weddings."
Pauline was rendered speechless by her daughter’s words.
Sienna clearly had no desire to continue the conversation with Pauline. She took Devin Desmond’s hand and started to leave. Pauline yelled from behind, "Sienna Johnson, you unfilial daughter!"
"Madam..." Walter Klein rushed over from outside. "Madam, Sixth Master asked me to tell you that he took the person to the hospital and will be back immediately."
"Tell Adrian Desmond there’s no need for him to rush back. I’ve canceled the wedding," Sienna stated, her expression calm.
Walter Klein carefully observed Sienna’s expression, trying to discern any emotion from her impassive face. He couldn’t tell if Sienna genuinely didn’t care or if she was just hiding it well. In any case, he detected no sadness or anger.
"Madam, Sixth Master, he..." Walter tried to explain something, but Sienna turned to him and smiled faintly. "You don’t have to say anything. I understand."
Understand what? He himself didn’t understand.
"Oh, right, this is Melanie Carpenter’s child. He was crying on the ground earlier, and no one was looking after him. Since you’re here, please look after him for now."
A child was thrust into Walter Klein’s arms. He felt as if he were holding a hot potato that he couldn’t get rid of.
Leanne Andrews, her nails painted a shade of cardamom, held a slender lady’s cigarette as she watched Sienna approach. She blew a puff of smoke towards her and said, "Are you okay? If you want to cry, sister can lend you a shoulder."
Henry Evans and Kiki looked at Sienna with concern. Sienna smiled. "Don’t worry, I’m fine."
Leanne said, "Today’s events were incredibly melodramatic, almost on par with the clichéd romance dramas I write... Truly, art imitates life but also transcends it."
"In a few days, you could invite Adrian Desmond for an interview. You could write a script about this; it might be a bestseller."
"You help me arrange it."
"Adrian Desmond probably won’t have time in the next few days."
Leanne scrutinized the overly composed woman before her. "Do you actually love Adrian Desmond? Most women encountering such a scene definitely wouldn’t have your composure."
"Then what should my expression be?"
"According to the plot of a script I’d write, you should be heartbroken, crying your heart out, and then staging a dramatic breakup with Adrian Desmond..." Leanne said.
Sienna chuckled. "I’m not Melanie Carpenter; men are not my entire life! If Adrian Desmond truly chooses Melanie Carpenter, I will wish them well!"
"Mrs. Desmond, how magnanimous!"
It was Adrian Desmond’s voice!
Sienna turned to see a furious Adrian Desmond and asked in surprise, "Why are you back so soon?"
"If I hadn’t returned, would Mrs. Desmond have already had her lawyer draft divorce papers to divorce me?" He had been worried this woman would misunderstand, so he had rushed back immediately after making sure Melanie Carpenter was on her way to the hospital in the ambulance, only to return and find her like this...
Adrian Desmond had worried she would be jealous. When she wasn’t, it paradoxically upset him. I’m such an idiot.
"Is Melanie Carpenter alright?"
"I don’t know. I put her in the ambulance and rushed back." Adrian Desmond walked towards Sienna, gripping her hand tightly.
Leanne joked, "I thought you’d be spending the night with that woman."
"Isn’t there a saying here about the ’bridal chamber on the wedding night, a night worth a thousand gold pieces’? How could I miss such precious moments tonight... Mrs. Desmond, wouldn’t you agree?" Adrian Desmond’s gaze was somewhat fierce as he looked at Sienna.
"I think you should go to the hospital and check on your little cousin. If something really has happened, you’ll regret it later..."
Sienna had studied medicine and was very familiar with the locations of human organs. That stab, while looking dangerous, wasn’t actually critical; it would just require a period of recuperation.
"I’m more worried about you!"
"I’m perfectly fine. What could happen to me?"
Adrian Desmond pulled Sienna along, walking briskly. The guests had departed early, leaving the wedding venue looking somewhat desolate. The ten-tiered cake hadn’t even been cut. He felt an indescribable frustration; the wedding he had planned for so long had been ruined.
Walking up to the ten-tiered cake, Adrian Desmond put the knife in her hand, held her hand, and said, "Don’t believe Melanie Carpenter’s words. We will be happy! I will make you and Curly happy!"
"’Mm.’" Even if Adrian Desmond didn’t make her happy, she would strive to find happiness herself. She wasn’t Melanie Carpenter, who had allowed her life to become mired in tragedy.
"Let’s cut the cake together."
"Okay."
The pink, heart-shaped cake was cut with a single slice, as if completing some sort of ritual. Leanne Andrews and the others approached. Leanne said, "Come on, bride and groom, cut us a piece of cake. Let us share in your good fortune. Maybe this time next year, I’ll be married too."
Leanne Andrews, Henry Evans, and Kiki were all single and hoping to marry.
"Curly has been clamoring for cake. I’ll go get her." Kiki never forgot about Curly whenever there were treats.
"Then you’d better eat a lot, otherwise it’ll be hard to get married this time next year," Sienna teased.
"Pfft! As if a dog’s mouth could spit out ivory." Leanne Andrews took the cake Sienna offered her and took a bite. "I was actually planning to catch your bridal bouquet for good luck, but you just had to have an Orienta style wedding."
