The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress

Chapter 330 - 331: Ex-Wife Meets Mother-in-Law

Chapter 330 - 331: Ex-Wife Meets Mother-in-Law

"Where is Adrian Desmond? I want to see Adrian Desmond! Don’t stop me!"

Melanie Carpenter was looking around. She wanted to see the man she hadn’t seen in nearly half a year. She truly hadn’t expected Adrian Desmond to be so heartless. No matter how much of a scene she made now, he genuinely didn’t care about her anymore. If her father were still alive, Adrian Desmond would never dare treat her like this.

"Miss Carpenter, Sixth Master is still busy at the moment. Look, why don’t you wait for a while? Once Sixth Master is finished, I’ll let him know you’re here, alright?"

Bella Ford, holding Devin Desmond’s hand, glared at Walter Klein and spat towards him. "Walter, stop treating us like fools! Don’t think we don’t know what you’re planning. Aren’t you just afraid we’ll cause trouble and prevent Sixth Master from getting married?"

"You know Sixth Master’s temper. If you anger him, can you bear the responsibility?" Walter Klein said this openly to Bella Ford, but his words were an indirect warning to Melanie Carpenter.

"Get out of my way! If Adrian Desmond holds anyone accountable, I’ll take full responsibility myself!"

Now, even invoking Adrian Desmond’s name couldn’t suppress Melanie Carpenter.

So many guests had arrived; it was so lively. Melanie Carpenter’s mind drifted to her wedding with Adrian Desmond four years ago... Her wedding with him had been even more festive than today’s celebration, but Sienna Johnson had ruined it in the end. Sienna Johnson hadn’t just ruined her wedding; she’d ruined her entire life! If Sienna Johnson hadn’t appeared, she would be Adrian Desmond’s wife, living a life of mutual respect with him, not kicked out by him. Why was that woman so venomous? Why couldn’t she tolerate her?!

"I’m sorry, Madam, but I cannot let you in!"

The newcomer was clearly trouble. Adrian Desmond valued this wedding immensely and, fearing any mishap, had deployed over a thousand bodyguards. Walter Klein couldn’t possibly let Melanie Carpenter, a ticking time bomb, inside. If she actually caused some kind of incident, he would be in serious trouble.

"Miss Carpenter!" Walter Klein, seeing Melanie Carpenter trying to force her way in with the child, blocked her path, his face etched with difficulty. "Miss Carpenter, you know Sixth Master’s temper. Please don’t make things difficult for me."

"Walter Klein, you dare to stop me!" Melanie Carpenter glared at Walter Klein. "My father is dead, so now even you look down on me?"

"Miss Carpenter, I wouldn’t dare!"

Melanie Carpenter sneered, "What wouldn’t you dare? With my father dead, you and Adrian Desmond have no more restraints, do you? You bully and humiliate me! Though my father is dead, he’s watching from heaven. Will you have the audacity to face him?"

Walter Klein’s head hung low. Melanie Carpenter clearly had some mental issues, and there was no reasoning with her. Was he supposed to just agree with everything she said? The priority was to prevent her from going in and causing a disturbance.

"What are you two doing?" Pauline Briggs, who had come out to greet guests, saw the two arguing.

Melanie Carpenter looked at the elegantly dressed woman, recognizing a resemblance to Sienna Johnson in her features. "What is your relationship with Sienna Johnson?"

"Sienna is my eldest daughter. Do you know her?" Pauline Briggs asked.

Melanie Carpenter laughed, a chilling smile on her face. "Of course, I know her. Even if she were turned to ash, I’d recognize her! Your daughter stole my man!"

Pauline Briggs was taken aback. She observed the woman before her. Though not as stunning as her own daughter, the woman possessed an elegant and gentle demeanor. However, her eyes were somber, and she exuded an aura of lifeless gloom.

"Your man?"

"Adrian Desmond!"

"You and Adrian Desmond are..."

"Adrian Desmond is my husband!"

Pauline Briggs’s lips parted slightly, her eyes wide with astonishment. She shook her head and said, "This... how is this possible? This is impossible!"

Melanie Carpenter pulled Devin Desmond out from behind her, declaring, "This is Adrian Desmond’s son!"

Walter Klein knew Pauline Briggs had always disliked Adrian Desmond. If she were to misunderstand that the child was Sixth Master’s, given her temper, she could ruin the entire wedding.

"Madam Johnson, please don’t believe Miss Carpenter’s words. This child isn’t Sixth Master’s. Sixth Master only has one daughter, Curly."

"His name is Devin Desmond! Adrian Desmond and I are cousins; we were betrothed as children. But your daughter seduced my fiancé, and Adrian nearly abandoned me four years ago because of her! I only came to ask her one thing: if she left four years ago, why did she come back? Why is she still entangling herself with *my* Adrian? Why did she have to steal the happiness that was mine?"

Pauline Briggs was a woman with a strong sense of morality. As someone who upheld the sanctity of marriage, she detested all mistresses. Hearing another woman accuse her own daughter of being a homewrecker who destroyed someone else’s family, Pauline felt an overwhelming urge to slap Sienna Johnson hard.

Have all the men in the world died out? Why did her daughter have to seduce a married man?

"Madam Johnson, please don’t listen to Miss Carpenter’s fabrications. Things aren’t as she says. Sixth Master and Madam Sienna truly love each other. Four years ago, there was a misunderstanding between them, which is why Madam Sienna left with Curly," Walter Klein explained to Pauline Briggs, afraid she would believe Melanie Carpenter’s words and cause further complications.

Walter Klein gestured with his eyes. Two bodyguards approached, and he said, "Miss Carpenter has come a long way and must be tired. Please escort Miss Carpenter to rest."

"Miss Carpenter, Sixth Master is currently busy inside. Please, rest first. Once he’s finished, I’ll inform him you’ve arrived." Walter Klein’s only thought was to get Melanie Carpenter away from here and deal with the situation privately.

"Madam, how did you raise your daughter? How could you produce someone so shameless! Why did you let her seduce my man? Why did she steal my happiness? Because of your daughter... I’ve lived every single day in agony!"

Pauline Briggs was frightened by Melanie Carpenter. Melanie’s demeanor reminded her of a friend. That friend, aging and losing her youthful allure, had watched her husband fall for a young, beautiful college student, who even bore him a son. Her husband then kicked her out. The friend had displayed the same bitter, resentful state as Melanie now did, and eventually, she suffered a mental breakdown and committed suicide.

"Come with me. If what you say is true, I will not allow my daughter to marry a man who already has a wife!"

"Madam Johnson!" Walter Klein couldn’t believe it. He had tried everything to stop Melanie Carpenter from getting inside and causing a disruption, yet Pauline Briggs was now personally escorting this ticking time bomb in!

"Walter, what are you so nervous about? Could what she said actually be true?" Pauline Briggs had been skeptical at first, but Walter Klein’s obvious anxiety made her lean towards believing Melanie Carpenter’s claims. She had never approved of Adrian Desmond in the first place. He was a coarse man, utterly lacking in cultivation. His friends who had come today were, if anything, even more vulgar and shallow. Pauline Briggs’s aversion to Adrian Desmond intensified. If what this woman said was true, she would take her daughter home immediately and find her a proper husband—at least, not someone as coarse, domineering, and utterly ungentle as Adrian Desmond!
