The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress

Chapter 281 - 282: Severing the Mother-Son Relationship

Chapter 281 - 282: Severing the Mother-Son Relationship

Once Eastminster Group withdrew its prosecution, Kenneth Brown, Sienna Johnson, and Virtue Pharmaceuticals would all be free from prosecution; it really let Sabrina Johnson off easy.

"Let’s withdraw the lawsuit! Even if we don’t, the Stewart Family won’t let anything happen to Sabrina Johnson for now."

"Alright." Lucas Robertson always listened to Sienna Johnson; since she had made this decision, he would follow it.

"Lucas, please go back to Abyanabad and help me investigate Adrian Desmond!"

"Investigate Adrian Desmond? Why?"

Sienna Johnson had always been very resistant towards Adrian Desmond. She usually had no interest in hearing anything about him, so the fact that she was now asking Lucas to investigate Adrian Desmond made him very curious.

"Because I’m going to marry Adrian Desmond! Help me investigate if he has another marriage in Abyanabad. If he does, naturally, I’m unwilling to be his junior wife."

"I understand."

"Be careful." It was Adrian Desmond’s territory, after all, and Sienna Johnson was still a little worried.

"Mhm."

Sienna Johnson knocked on the study door. The Oriental-style study had once belonged to Sienna Johnson’s grandfather. After her grandfather passed away, the study still maintained its original appearance.

Pauline Briggs sat on the fragrant rosewood old-style wooden armchair, her face livid with anger, her eyes blazing as she watched Sienna Johnson enter. Sabrina Johnson stood beside Pauline Briggs, an interesting expression on her face.

"Sienna has arrived..." Her grandmother greeted her warmly.

"I heard that you’re not feeling well again, Grandma. Did you see a doctor?" Sienna Johnson walked over to her grandmother, pulled over a chair, and sat down in front of her.

"As people age, their body’s components wear out. Doctors can’t help much. I’ll just muddle through. When it really gives out, I’ll just be waiting for the scrap heap," the old lady said with an air of acceptance.

"Even so, you should pay attention to your daily upkeep."

"You silly girl, coming to see me and still fussing over everything. Having Kathryn around nagging me is already enough, and now you’re here to pester me too," the old lady feigned annoyance.

"Mom, have you forgotten what I told you just now?"

Pauline Briggs saw the two chatting, the atmosphere harmonious, and figured the old lady had already forgotten what she (Pauline) had just told her.

"Sienna is grown up. As long as the man is unmarried and the woman is unwed, we shouldn’t be too strict with her," the old lady stated her position.

"Mom, how can you say such a thing?! No matter how old she gets, she can’t just act shamelessly!"

Sienna Johnson sat there, her expression calm, betraying no emotion.

"Sienna Johnson, do you have any sense of shame?" Pauline Briggs couldn’t suppress her anger and berated her loudly. "Having a tryst with a man in your own boudoir—is that what a decent woman does? I know you didn’t receive a ladylike education with that rustic adoptive mother of yours, but after all these years in the Johnson Family, haven’t you managed to shed those indecent behaviors?"

Sienna Johnson looked up at Pauline Briggs and said calmly, "Madam Johnson, how is it shameless for me to be with my fiancé in my own room? And direct your attacks at me if you must, but why are you attacking my adoptive mother?"

Pauline Briggs hadn’t expected Sienna Johnson to dare speak to her like that. "Sienna, shut up!"

"I need to discuss some things with Grandma. If you have nothing else, could you please leave?" Sienna Johnson said.

Knowing that a soft approach worked better with Sienna than a forceful one, Pauline Briggs changed her earlier domineering tone and tried to persuade her earnestly, "Sienna, Mom knows that what happened with Kenneth Brown has upset you greatly, but you can’t be so rash about getting married.

Sienna, if you want to get married, Mom won’t object. Mom will definitely find a good family for you, ensure you marry in style and splendor. But Adrian Desmond is out of the question! That man is no good, definitely not a suitable match! You won’t find happiness if you marry him!"

"Madam Johnson, how do you know Adrian Desmond isn’t a good person?"

With Pauline Briggs’s level of judgment, she could hardly tell good people from bad. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so easily used as a pawn by Sabrina Johnson.

"Sienna!"

"All of you, get out!" the old lady commanded.

Sabrina Johnson, who had been silent until now, spoke up, "Grandma, it’s all my fault. I saw someone in Sister’s room and got scared. I screamed suddenly, and that’s how Mom found out that Sister was messing around with a strange man in her room..."

"Sister, I’m sorry, can you forgive me?"

Sienna Johnson merely sneered and said nothing.

The old lady’s expression darkened, and she said to Sabrina Johnson, "From now on, you are forbidden to set foot in the Johnson family home! The Johnson family has no place for a treacherous, ungrateful wretch who bites the hand that feeds it! Even a dog raised by the Johnson family knows gratitude!

The Johnson family raised you, allowed you to marry into a good family, and yet you stole the formula and sold it to others, harming the Johnson Family’s interests!"

"Creatures like you, worse than dogs, are not fit to enter the gates of my Johnson family!"

The old lady rapped her walking stick heavily on the ground. With an imposing air, a single word ground out from between her teeth: "Out!"

"Grandma, I..." Sabrina Johnson burst into tears.

"Who do you think you are, calling me Grandma? I am Sienna and Samara’s grandmother. When did I become the grandmother of an ungrateful wretch like you?" The old lady showed Sabrina Johnson no mercy whatsoever.

Pauline Briggs glanced at her adopted daughter and couldn’t help but speak up for her. "Mom, Sabrina knows she’s wrong. Please forgive her this one time. She’s been obedient and sensible since she was little. This time, it was just a moment of folly that made her do something so detrimental to others and herself."

"You fool!" the old lady snapped, looking at Pauline Briggs.

Pauline Briggs’s face instantly paled. She had been a daughter-in-law in the Johnson family for decades, yet the old lady had never spoken to her like that before.

In the room, Pauline Briggs wept, and Sabrina Johnson wept. Kathryn, seeing the old lady’s irritation, spoke up, "Madam, Mrs. Stewart, the Old Madam and Miss Johnson need to discuss some business, so perhaps it’s best if you step out for now?"

Sabrina Johnson, her eyes red from crying, lifted her head and glared at Sienna Johnson, then helped Pauline Briggs up, saying softly, "Mother, it’s all my fault."

Pauline Briggs also glanced at Sienna Johnson. Sienna Johnson remained seated, composed, not having uttered a single word in her own defense. Pauline felt utterly disappointed in this daughter.

"Since you don’t want me as your mother, fine! From now on, we’ll sever all ties between mother and daughter!" Pauline Briggs uttered harshly.

Sienna Johnson smiled faintly and said nothing.

"Sienna Johnson, rest assured, I won’t meddle in any of your affairs ever again!" Pauline Briggs’s tone was like that of a pouting child. Sienna Johnson looked at Pauline Briggs, her gaze like one would use for an unruly child.

"Madam Johnson, are you done speaking? If so, you may leave."

"Sienna Johnson!"

Pauline Briggs was astounded. Even after she had said such harsh things, Sienna Johnson remained so calm. It was clear Sienna had no place for her, this mother, in her heart; she had long since stopped thinking of Pauline as her mother.

"I’m going, I’m going! I’ll never show my face in front of you again, never again be an eyesore to you!"
