Chapter 719
Chapter 719
After filming wrapped up, Anne Hathaway left immediately. Most of the crew was busy, and extras were milling about everywhere. The temporary set was chaotic for a while, so almost no one noticed Emma.
Emma Roberts was crumpled on the ground in pain, seemingly unable to get up.
Matthew rushed over to her and asked with concern, "What happened?"
"She... she stabbed me!" Emma glanced in the direction Anne Hathaway had gone. "She stabbed me hard... Oh, God, it hurts so much..."
The prop knives used by the crew were made of resin. They looked menacing, just like real ones, but they weren't actually sharp and could hardly break the skin. That didn't mean they were harmless, however.
"I'll get the medic." Matthew stood and was about to call for help, but Emma pulled him back. "It's fine, don't yell."
She lifted her shirt to take a look.
The movement was so sudden, and Matthew was standing right in front of her, so he naturally saw the obvious patch of red on Emma Roberts's skin.
The blow from Anne Hathaway had clearly been forceful.
Emma Roberts lowered her clothes, rubbed the sore spot, and slowly got to her feet, her eyes fixed on the spot where Anne Hathaway had disappeared.Seeing that she was standing, Matthew asked, "Feeling better?"
"Yeah." Emma Roberts seemed to have pushed through the pain. "Much better," she said.
Since she seemed alright, Matthew didn't call for a medic. He waited a moment, then offered, "Should I help you to your trailer?"
Emma Roberts didn't refuse, taking Matthew's arm as they walked toward her trailer.
Emma Roberts said nothing on the way, but Matthew could feel that this wasn't over.
Did Anne Hathaway do it on purpose? Who could say? Accidents often happened on Hollywood sets, and it wasn't uncommon for actors to get injured. The Academy would probably just say the actor was fully immersed in their character during filming.
On a film set with two beautiful lead actresses, things often got complicated.
It was just a rule of Hollywood.
Matthew walked Emma Roberts to her trailer.
He then returned to his own. By the time he came out, both Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway had left the set and returned to the Hilton hotel.
After taking a car back to the hotel, he first went to his room to shower and change. Seeing that it was getting late, he headed straight for the restaurant on the ground floor.
This restaurant was responsible for catering to the film crew, and most of the cast and crew usually had their dinner here.
When Matthew arrived at the entrance, he must have been early, as there weren't many people from the crew yet. What was strange, however, was that the few who were there were all gathered in a circle.
As Matthew got closer, he saw that the center of attention was Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway.
"You did that on purpose this afternoon, didn't you?" Emma Roberts was sitting at a dining table, staring at Anne Hathaway across from her.
"You did it deliberately."
A wide smile stretched across Anne Hathaway's lips. She looked elegant and gentle, blinking with an air of complete innocence. "This afternoon? Did something happen?"
Emma's eyes widened. "You stabbed me!"
Anne Hathaway raised a finger and wagged it, as elegant as a traditional English noblewoman. "That was for the scene. It was in the script, the director asked for it, so of course, I had to do it."
She asked rhetorically, "Don't you have even a shred of professionalism?"
Anne Hathaway was justifying herself: she was just doing what the script demanded.
Emma Roberts was so surprised she fell silent for a moment, unsure of what to say.
Seeing the two of them, Matthew just shook his head. Conflicts between women were often inexplicable. Wasn't this just a matter of who was prettier or more popular? Why bother fighting?
Of course, Emma Roberts had been injured that afternoon and was still in considerable pain, so she definitely wasn't happy.
He had no intention of getting involved; they could just bicker for a bit. Besides, a simple quarrel was the most common form of animosity between Hollywood actresses.
It wasn't time for him to step in, though he could play the peacemaker later.
Emma Roberts was silent for a few seconds before adding, "You hit me hard on purpose. It still hurts!"
Anne Hathaway, still smiling, replied, "The script says that Mal stabs Ariadne hard. Is there a problem with that?"
"You..." Emma Roberts exclaimed again.
Compared to Anne Hathaway, who had been in the industry for a long time, eighteen-year-old Emma Roberts was clearly outmatched.
Matthew watched for a while as the two continued to argue.
"Miss Roberts, please have some self-respect," Anne Hathaway said. "If you don't know how to be an actress, don't assume others are the same as you."
Everyone in the restaurant, including Matthew, could see that Anne was completely dominating Emma.
Just then, Emma Roberts slowly stood up. As Matthew thought she was about to leave, something happened that no one expected.
Anne Hathaway was still flashing her feminine smile when Emma's hand whipped across her face in a stinging slap.
And before Anne Hathaway could even process what had happened, another slap from Emma landed on her other cheek.
The crisp sound was unusually sharp.
Anne Hathaway was stunned. She had never been in a situation like this before.
Matthew froze as well. Although he knew Emma Roberts wasn't as sweet and gentle as she appeared, he never expected her to lash out physically.
Situations like this were exceedingly rare in Hollywood.
After the slap, Emma balled her hand into a fist and swung.
The punch landed squarely on Anne Hathaway's nose. While the blow wasn't incredibly powerful, a trickle of blood began to run from Anne's nostril.
Anne Hathaway finally reacted. "You bitch!"
She was no longer pretending to be a British lady. She shot up furiously, ready to retaliate, but Emma Roberts was even faster. She moved around the table and pounced, her fists and slaps raining down on Anne Hathaway.
Anne tried to grab Emma's hair, but Emma seized her hand and bit down hard, causing Anne to cry out in pain.
Matthew had never seen two women fight, especially two actresses, and for a moment he was a little bewildered.
Fortunately, there were no reporters here, or this would have been a sensational story.
As soon as the thought crossed his mind, he realized that while Emma Roberts might have a bad temper, smoke, and drink, she wasn't stupid. She had probably been planning her revenge on set, but deliberately waited until they were back at the hotel, away from the eyes of the media.
She was quite clever. After all, being photographed by a reporter was one thing, but having people talk about it without any direct video evidence
was something else entirely.
In just a few seconds, Anne Hathaway was thoroughly beaten by Emma Roberts in front of everyone.
Everyone was astonished, including Matthew. No one had expected the petite Emma to have such a vicious side. She was just over five feet tall, yet she was getting the upper hand on Anne Hathaway, who stood nearly five-foot-seven.
The fight lasted less than twenty seconds, but in that time, Anne Hathaway had taken countless slaps and punches from Emma Roberts.
"Emma!" Seeing things were getting out of hand, Matthew hastily strode forward, shouting as he went, "Emma! Stop it, calm down!"
Those present, whether restaurant staff or regular crew members, were in no hurry to interfere. Besides, why not enjoy such a good show?
Emma Roberts seemed not to hear him and had no intention of stopping.
Anne Hathaway had probably played the English lady for too long. In the face of a frenzied Emma Roberts, she was helpless.
"That's enough, Emma!"
Matthew got closer, grabbed Emma Roberts by the wrist, and reminded her loudly,
"Stop fighting, are you trying to kill her?"
Seeing that Emma Roberts still hadn't stopped, he used a bit of force to pull her back, putting himself between the two of them.
Matthew raised his voice. "Both of you, calm down!"
"Stay out of this, Matthew!" Emma, her eyes blazing with hostility, shouted, "I want to make this smug bitch pay for what she did!"
Without warning, Anne Hathaway screamed, "Call the police!"
Matthew turned back to Emma, who was trying to break free again, and pushed her down into a chair. "Get ahold of yourself."
At that moment, more people appeared at the restaurant entrance, among them Christopher Nolan, who hurried toward them. The chaotic scene finally quieted down.
(This scene is based on reports that Emma Roberts has a tendency toward violence. She has repeatedly subjected her boyfriend to domestic abuse and once beat her fiancé, Evan Peters, also known as Quicksilver from "X-Men," so badly that his face was bruised and his nose bled before she was taken away by the police).
