Chapter 690

Chapter 690

"Open your throat, stabilize your larynx!"

In the beige music room, Taylor Swift stood before Matthew, looking utterly focused. "Pay attention to the rhythm of your breathing! Breath control is the most important part, the very foundation of singing!"

She watched Matthew listen intently, then said,

"Repeat after me."

"Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah..."

Taylor Swift's vocals were perfectly rhythmic, her voice as pleasant as a lark's song.

"AHHH..."

The moment Matthew opened his mouth, his raspy voice sounded completely off-key. The entire practice room seemed to tremble, as if a bear had just awoken from hibernation.

"Stop! Stop!" Taylor Swift was completely defeated. "Matthew, you're not even in the right key!"

Matthew paused, adjusted his breathing, and said quite calmly, "I think I'm doing great."Taylor Swift slapped her forehead. "Oh my God." She looked at Matthew. "We've been at this all morning, and you haven't improved one bit."

"Why don't we take a break?" Matthew suggested.

"Absolutely not!" Taylor Swift was in full teacher mode.

"I am going to teach you the most basic vocalization today."

She scanned Matthew from head to toe and tensed up. "Be serious!"

Matthew nodded. "I'm being completely serious."

Taylor Swift stood opposite him and instructed, "Before you work on your voice and singing, you have to clear your mind of all distractions, stabilize your emotions, and get into a good state of mind. You need to have a genuine desire to sing and approach it with confidence and relaxation, otherwise you'll never be able to sing well."

Matthew kept nodding. "I understand."

He repeated everything Taylor Swift said, but it was clear the situation was hopeless.

"After you inhale, keep your chest still and let your vocal cords close naturally. Then, use your breath to push through the vocal cords, making them vibrate and produce sound. The sound produced this way will be strong and powerful," Taylor Swift explained the basic vocal techniques. "This method can fix the problem of breathiness."

She pointed at Matthew. "And you have a very severe case of it."

"Got it." Matthew did as she said, cleared his mind of distractions, and prepared himself. "Let's begin."

As they repeated the vocal exercises over and over, Taylor Swift grew increasingly tense. Her expression darkened, and her voice gradually rose in pitch.

Taking a moment to let Matthew practice on his own, she turned away and muttered to herself, "Calm down! Just stay calm. You're the teacher now, you have to keep your composure! You can teach even the most talentless student in the world!"

"Oh-oh-oh..."

Another sound, almost like a howl, echoed from behind her.

She spun around, looked at Matthew, and asked, "Well?"

Matthew nodded vigorously. "There's progress, I can feel it."

Taylor Swift nearly fainted. She waved a hand dismissively. "Let's take a break."

Her ears had been tortured all morning. If this continued, she wouldn't be able to hear a backing track for the rest of the week.

Matthew followed Taylor Swift out of the music room and into the lounge area.

This was Taylor Swift's Los Angeles music studio, which also served as her residence on the Malibu waterfront. Sitting in the living room, you could see the magnificent ocean view through floor-to-ceiling windows, making it a perfect place to relax.

Accepting the glass of water Taylor Swift handed him, Matthew said his thanks and had just taken a sip when a small kitten suddenly leaped onto the sofa.

The kitten's ears looked as if they were folded, drooping in the middle, giving it an adorable appearance.

"That's Meredith," Taylor Swift said, sitting down across from Matthew.

"She's a Scottish Fold."

"She's beautiful," Matthew said.

He reached out, intending to stroke the cat's ear, but she immediately jumped off the sofa, darted across the room, and hopped onto Taylor Swift's lap.

Taylor Swift gently stroked the kitten's tiny head and cooed, "Were you scared today?"

Hearing this, Matthew asked, "Taylor, it wasn't that bad, was it?"

"It's really no exaggeration," Taylor Swift said with unusual seriousness and sincerity. "Matthew, just getting you to produce the basic notes correctly is a monumental task."

Matthew thought for a moment and said, "Maybe we shouldn't, then?"

Taylor Swift waved her hand. "We can't just give up." Her blue eyes fixed on Matthew. "How can you quit halfway through? How will you ever succeed if you don't work hard?"

Suddenly, Matthew felt like he was being lectured by a schoolteacher. Did Taylor actually enjoy being a teacher?

"This is my first time teaching someone," Taylor Swift added. "So I have to teach you properly!"

Matthew raised his water glass and took a sip. "Alright, if you're willing to teach, then I'm willing to learn."

Taylor Swift let out a deliberate sigh. "I'm risking my life to teach my student." She glanced at the wall clock and said, "It's almost noon, let's go get something to eat."

Matthew set his glass down and stood up. "No problem. What do you want to eat?"

"There's a good Italian restaurant nearby," Taylor Swift said, clearly having planned this. "They make excellent white truffles."

The residence wasn't very large, and the cars were parked just outside. Matthew and Taylor Swift walked out, and as they got into the car, they could see the faint glint of camera flashes from the bushes. Neither of them paid it any mind; they simply got in the car and drove off.

Lately, Inception had started gaining momentum, and Fast & Furious had also launched a series of promotional campaigns. His media exposure had significantly increased again, and paparazzi had been tailing him ever since he'd stepped out today.

There were also some who were following Taylor Swift.

Of course, he had no idea if anyone was specifically looking for him, but he didn't care.

The tabloids had already linked him to dozens of rumored girlfriends, so adding one more to the list didn't matter.

As he drove, Matthew glanced in the rearview mirror—several paparazzi were following them.

Taylor Swift noticed it too and remarked, "It's so annoying to have a tail every time you leave the house."

Matthew turned a corner and said, "That's the price of fame."

"Are they going to create some kind of scandal about us?" Taylor Swift didn't need an answer from Matthew.

"It doesn't matter," Matthew said, completely unconcerned. "Let's just pretend we don't know."

The Italian restaurant was located in the affluent beach area of Malibu. A few minutes later, Matthew parked the car and led Taylor Swift inside. She didn't hold back, choosing several of the most expensive items on the menu.

A dish with white truffles was, of course, among them.

"Are we continuing this afternoon?" Matthew asked as they ate.

Taylor Swift swallowed her food and nodded. "Of course, we have to continue!" She picked up her water glass and took a sip. "I cleared my entire schedule today just to teach you."

"Alright." Matthew had nothing else planned for the day anyway.

A little over half an hour later, he and Taylor Swift left the restaurant and drove back. The paparazzi seemed a bit agitated; a few of them even pulled up beside him on motorcycles when he stopped at a red light, snapping random pictures of the windshield.

Matthew didn't need to see the papers to know that tomorrow's entertainment news would undoubtedly feature this story.

Returning to Taylor Swift's residence, she glanced back before heading inside and said, "Don't those people ever get tired?"

She took out her phone. "I'll let my agent know before the gossip columnists start complaining to me."

Left alone in the living room, Matthew turned and saw the cat again. From behind him, Taylor Swift suddenly said, "When you get interviewed, if a reporter asks about me, make sure to clarify things."

"Just ignore them," Matthew said, turning to face her. "The more you try to explain these things, the less people believe you."

Taylor Swift huffed, "But won't that make them think I'm your rumored girlfriend? I'm your teacher."

Matthew deliberately adopted a playful tone. "Isn't a teacher-student romance more exciting?"

"A teacher-student romance?" Taylor Swift stared at Matthew. "Hey, what are you getting at?"

Matthew stepped closer until he was standing right in front of her. Adopting a flirty expression, he reached out and tipped her chin up. "Maybe I should be the teacher, and you can be my student?"

Taylor Swift froze. 'Isn't this all happening a little too fast?'

At that moment, her eyes suddenly widened. "I have an idea!"

Ignoring Matthew completely, Taylor Swift turned and headed toward the music room, calling out as she went, "Matthew, wait, I just got a flash of inspiration. I'm going to write a song."

Matthew had a strange feeling. He asked, "Inspiration?"

"Yes!" Taylor Swift added, "You're my inspiration."

She gave Matthew a thumbs-up. "You're truly amazing! You're my muse."

Matthew nodded, but for some reason, he had a feeling that something had gone terribly wrong.
