Chapter 673

Chapter 673

As Carolina's eyes fell on the paper bag sitting on the table, a flicker of fear crossed her face. A miracle drug? Was this man about to pull another one of his tricks?

She stared at the paper bag, then at Matthew across the table, a profound fear stirring deep within her.

Ever since she’d landed the role, she had been subjected to a chilling experience, a unique game she couldn't bear to even think about.

And yet, Carolina suddenly felt an inexplicable curiosity. What would she experience with these... things? What would it feel like? She wanted to try.

Matthew noticed the fear flash across Carolina's face, followed by a glint of excitement as she reached for the paper bag.

It was obvious to him that she had completely misunderstood.

This wasn't that kind of product at all, but a perfectly good remedy for heat relief and insect repellent! He had the best intentions, but Carolina still didn't get it. It was so hard to be a good person.

“You’re overthinking things, KK.” Matthew pulled a few small boxes from the paper bag. He opened one with green packaging and said, “This is called Vindeks.”

He then opened another in a red wrapper and paused. “And this is cooling oil.”

Carolina stared at Matthew, utterly confused. She had never heard of these things before.“It’s a topical medicine.” Matthew placed the Vindeks and the

cooling oil back on the table with the paper bag. “Take care of yourself. Use it.”

Carolina froze, still unfamiliar with the two names. She couldn't help but ask, “Matthew, where... do you apply them?”

Matthew turned his head and looked at Carolina. He’d only ever used them for mosquito bites. Where else would you put them, especially in this heat?

He had clearly come to deliver medicine with good intentions, so why was no one understanding his kindness?

He offered a pointed reminder, “Just rub it on your skin.”

“I see,” Carolina said softly.

Matthew nodded and stood up. But before he could say goodbye, Carolina spoke again. “I promise, I’ll rub it on whenever you need me to.”

Matthew froze, not knowing what to say. He just waved a hand. “Do as you please.”

He gave Carolina one last look and said, “Get some rest.”

Matthew also pointed to the paper bag, as well as the Vindeks and cooling oil. “Keep it all.”

The sky had darkened by the time he left Carolina’s trailer. Matthew glanced at the crescent moon hanging in the sky and suddenly felt like going back.

Surrounded by a group of bodyguards, he headed toward the dining car. Since the wind was very light today, a large open-air dining area had been set up nearby, and most of the several hundred people in the crew had gathered there to eat.

Matthew walked to a relatively quiet spot and found Jason Statham.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.” Matthew pulled out a chair and sat down opposite

Jason.

Jason's voice was a little raspy. “It’s fine.”

Matthew explained, “A fan wanted a picture and managed to sneak into the camp.”

He waved over a server attending to the main crew. When the man approached, Matthew said, “Bring us some beer and food. Anything will do.”

Soon, skewers and cold beer, thoughtfully prepared by the chef, were delivered to their table.

Matthew and Jason skipped the glasses, each grabbing a bottle of beer. They clinked them together and took a long swig.

“I got into diving early in my career, but I ended up missing the most important Olympics.”

Matthew didn’t have to ask; Jason started talking on his own. “I failed to qualify for two Olympics in a row. I got so angry I just retired. But I couldn't find a decent job, so I ended up drifting into the acting industry.”

He raised his beer bottle and took a big gulp. “I was originally involved with independent films in the UK. I wanted to be a serious actor, maybe win a British Academy Award someday.”

Jason shook his head. “Then, I don’t know how it happened, but I became an action star. And I got typecast. No one would consider me for anything but action films. People wouldn't even see me when I showed up at their door.”

Matthew raised his beer bottle, clinked it with Jason's, and said,

“Being an action star isn’t so bad.”

“Well, that's true,” Jason conceded with a nod. “If I hadn’t become an action star, I probably wouldn’t have lasted this long.”

“To action films!” Matthew raised his bottle to Jason. “Let’s drink!”

He could see that Jason had a clear sense of his own position in the industry, a rare quality for an actor.

“Cheers!” Jason replied, then drained the remaining quarter of his beer in one go.

Matthew finished his bottle as well, then opened two more, placing one in front of Jason.

“Jason, speaking of action films, I think we could work together again,” Matthew said tentatively. “I was wondering, are you interested in racing?”

“Racing movies?” Jason, who had starred in Death Race the previous year, asked, “You don’t mean the Fast & Furious series, do you?”

Matthew nodded. “Yes. I’m tentatively planning a trilogy for this series and would like to invite you to star in one of them in the future.”

Inviting Jason to star opposite him, with that magnificent face that could handle a bald head as a frame—wouldn't that make him even more heroic?

“That’s a good idea.” Jason set down his beer, thought for a moment, and said, “Matthew, I’ll discuss it with my agent.”

After a moment’s thought, he added, “It might not be possible anytime soon. My schedule is packed, and I won’t be able to line anything up.”

Seeing that Jason wasn't being difficult, Matthew immediately replied, “It would be a few years from now. Fast & Furious 4 only comes out next year, and the script for Fast & Furious 5 is already planned. The soonest would be for the sixth, or even the seventh installment.”

Jason looked pained. “Alright, then give me a call.”

After saying this, he suddenly changed the subject. “Actually, will we have a chance to work together again next year?”

“Next year?” Matthew froze. Did he have a project with Jason next year?

Could it be that Christopher Nolan had invited Jason to be in Inception? Nolan was known for favoring British actors, so it wasn't out of the question for Jason to be in the film.

With this in mind, Matthew immediately asked, “Are you going to be in Inception?”

“Inception? Is that Christopher Nolan’s film?” Jason scratched his head, which had only a few hairs left on it. “Director Nolan probably doesn’t even know who I am.”

He laughed, not the least bit embarrassed. “Stallone was telling me about you. Hasn’t he made you an offer?”
