The Best Movie Actor In Hollywood!

Chapter 608

Chapter 608

The winter weather in London was dreadful, with a drizzling mix of rain and snow accompanying the evening twilight. None of it, however, could dampen the crowd's enthusiasm. By the time Matthew and David Ellison arrived at Somerset House, the place was already buzzing with energy, as countless people lined up in the rain and snow, waiting for a chance to enter the temporary venue for the Victoria's Secret show.

Matthew and David had premium tickets and took a dedicated VIP lane to the enormous temporary runway tent set up in the Somerset House square. A security guard checked their invitations before another staff member led them into the hall.

They both had front-row seats.

"Were you with Emma Watson yesterday?" David asked.

Matthew nodded. "Had dinner with her."

David suddenly remarked, "I seem to recall she's under eighteen."

"You're overthinking it," Matthew replied, uncharacteristically annoyed. "It's friendship, nothing more."

David couldn't help but let out a short laugh, asking with deliberate mockery, "Who'd be that stupid? You, having a simple friendship with a beautiful actress?"

Matthew just shrugged.

They turned down an aisle and made their way to the front row. Just as they found two adjacent seats, Matthew spotted a lone blonde woman about his age.Her figure was all too familiar—so familiar that he recognized her instantly.

"David, I've got to go," Matthew said, gesturing with his eyes. "I'm going to go say hello."

Hearing Matthew's words, David looked over as well. The blonde was incredibly famous, a North American pop superstar of the moment; it would be hard not to recognize her.

He'd also heard a thing or two about Matthew's history with this woman and was curious to get a closer look.

Matthew ignored David, who was lingering behind, and walked straight over. Perhaps hearing his footsteps, the blonde woman turned her head and looked in his direction.

"Good evening, Britney," Matthew greeted her.

Britney Spears saw Matthew and smiled. "Good evening, Matthew."

She gave him a curious look. "I didn't expect to see you here."

Matthew sat down in the chair next to her and said casually, "Came to see the show with a friend."

Britney didn't buy it. She knew the man sitting beside her was no longer the Matthew she once knew; he was one of Hollywood's most prestigious playboys, a man even Leonardo DiCaprio couldn't compare to.

"Just watching the show?" Britney asked with a smirk.

Matthew spread his hands. "Isn't that what I'm here for? Oh... and I came to London to see some friends, like David Heyman, the producer of the Harry Potter films."

Britney asked again, "I heard you got engaged a while back. Why haven't I heard anything since?"

"There was an unexpected change of plans." Matthew took the initiative to change the subject. "I saw in the news the other day that you bought a house in Beverly Hills. I'll have to visit you sometime."

"Of course," Britney replied simply. "You can come visit anytime."

Just then, a young woman with long hair and a radiant face approached. Seeing her, Britney stood up and said, "Matthew, I'd like to introduce you to a friend."

Matthew also stood and looked at the girl, who was a full head taller than Britney. She wore a long dress covered in various fruit prints like bananas, watermelons, and strawberries, and with her sweet, girlish looks, she had the potential to become a bubblegum-pop teen idol.

Britney made the introduction. "Matthew, this is Catherine Hudson, a friend of mine. She was originally one of my backup dancers and is releasing her first album next year."

She then introduced Matthew to Catherine. "Katy, this is Matthew Horner. You know who he is."

Matthew extended his hand politely. "Hello, Ms. Hudson."

"Hello, Matthew." Catherine's voice had a raspy, broken quality to it as she shook his hand. "You can call me Katy."

They exchanged a few pleasantries, and soon others began to arrive. The area seemed to have become a hotspot for various actresses. Matthew even saw Cheryl, who had become very popular in the UK over the past two years, and the famous British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, though her movie-star husband was nowhere in sight.

Matthew returned to his seat, and David remarked, "You and Britney seem to be on good terms."

"We parted amicably," Matthew said with a faint smile.

David said thoughtfully, like an expert on relationships, "Time and distance have always been the most effective weapons for killing love."

Matthew conceded, "Love detached from reality is just a fairy tale. Maybe if we'd both chosen different professions, we could have stayed together."

"Are you kidding?!" David clearly had a different opinion. "You'd still be a playboy even if you were swinging a sledgehammer on a construction site. You'd just be with less glamorous women."

Matthew had no comeback and simply tuned David out.

But then again, if Britney hadn't been a busy pop star, would they have gotten this far? And if they got back together now?

He glanced over at Britney, then shook his head. A first love was best left as a fond memory.

Perhaps lost in thoughts of his past with Britney, Matthew barely watched the show. He only noticed two of the models: Karolina Kurkova, whose enormous wings seemed to reach for the sky, and Heidi Klum, who was putting on a nauseatingly public display of affection with her husband on stage.

But Heidi seemed so focused on showing off her love that she'd forgotten that public displays of affection are a guaranteed prelude to a breakup...

In Hollywood, any couple that flaunts their love in the media, in public, or in announcements almost always breaks up within half a year. Many of them are just PR couples or something else entirely.

On the other hand, couples who keep their private lives out of the spotlight tend to last much longer.

But in the end, he wasn't interested in Heidi. His target was still Karolina Kurkova.

On their way to the after-party at the adjacent hotel, Matthew asked David, "Have you picked your target yet?"

"Of course!" David cracked his knuckles, as if warming up.

Matthew asked curiously, "Who? Alessandra Ambrosio? Candice Swanepoel? Or Lily Aldridge?"

David raised a finger and wagged it. "None of the above!"

He said with a grin, "It's Heidi Klum!"

Matthew froze for a moment. "She's married."

David didn't care. "I want to see if that public display of affection was genuine."

Matthew couldn't help but shake his head in disapproval. "You're a bastard."

David replied flatly, "Actually, I learned it from you."

"Don't drag me into this shit," Matthew said, putting on a virtuous air. "I've never broken up a marriage."

***

After arriving at the hotel, Matthew and David first checked into their luxury suite to freshen up. When the time was right, they headed to the ballroom on the second floor where the party was being held.

Upon entering the party, they saw that Heidi Klum was not accompanied by her husband. David seemed prepared for this. He pulled one of the show's executives over to make an introduction and approached Heidi directly. Perhaps money and extreme wealth made a stronger impression on women, because he moved as quickly as ever. Matthew had barely struck up a conversation with Karolina Kurkova before a gleeful David was leading Heidi out of the ballroom.

"You remember we met at a party last year," Matthew said, ignoring David and turning to Karolina. "You had an impromptu meeting that day and had to leave in a hurry."

Karolina smiled. "Yes, I remember. You called me the 'Czech Saint'."

Matthew smiled back. "You gave me a phone number back then, but I could never get through."

Karolina wasn't the least bit embarrassed. "I lost my phone at the airport that night, so I bought a new one and changed my number along with it."

"Then may I have the new number?"

Karolina quickly recited a series of digits, asking with a smile, "Can you remember that?"

Matthew nodded, joking deliberately, "This number won't be out of service, will it?"

"You can try calling it right now."

Matthew started patting his pockets, then shook his head. "I left my phone in my room."

Karolina spread her hands. "Then I have no way to prove my innocence."

Matthew, however, was serious. "Then we should go to my room."

Knowing the meaning that could be hidden behind those words, Karolina hesitated for a moment before replying, "Of course, Mr. Horner."
