Chapter 475

Chapter 475

A rose, the burning dream in every woman's heart, blossoms silently in her sleep—sweet, romantic, and more alluring in her mind than anything else.

That night, the rose's enchantment lingered in Maria's heart, entwining itself through her entire life, blooming into a bond of love.

A rose is not the bedrock of love, but its catalyst.

Especially for a nineteen-year-old girl brimming with rose-tinted romantic fantasies.

The next morning, Maria woke very early. She sat with her hands resting on her knees, gazing around the room filled with roses. Her entire being was enveloped in the fragrance of the flowers, and she couldn't help but feel utterly intoxicated.

Just as intoxicated as she had been yesterday, during that romantic and wild night.

But Matthew did not share the sentiment.

He emerged from the bathroom, saw the young woman sitting there, and sighed inwardly. What a dreadful night.

He had imagined it so perfectly.

Thanks to years of training and maintaining his physique, combined with his natural vigor, he was bursting with energy. But after meeting Maria, he had thought that since she was so tall and one of the top athletes in her sport, getting her into bed would surely be an epic encounter. Her cries on the court were earth-shaking, echoing through the clouds; a woman who could produce such a roar was definitely no ordinary person.

At first, he’d worried her screams would carry through the entire floor, turning the private show he’d arranged for her into a city-wide spectacle.

However, while the fantasy had been magnificent, the reality was brutal.

He had pulled out all the stops to impress her, only to realize after they began that he hadn’t just been wrong—he had been catastrophically wrong.

Who would have thought that Maria would just lie there, motionless, unresponsive, and silent, like...

Matthew searched his mind for a fitting description, and "a log" was all that came to mind.

He couldn't fathom how Maria, whose voice could reach the heavens on the court, was reduced to nothing more than a muffled groan.

It was, without a doubt, the worst night he’d had in North America. He was certain it couldn’t possibly get any worse.

On the living room carpet sat Maria, her gaze having long since shifted from the roses to Matthew. The solid lines of his body, carved like marble, and the powerful muscles that even a white shirt couldn't conceal—he was so much more beautiful than any rose.

And then there was the whirlwind of romance from the night before...

To the young Maria, it felt as if she had found true love.

She had just noticed him standing there, perfectly still, his eyes fixed ahead, never leaving her for a second. He was just watching her, lost in thought...

It was obvious he was looking only at her.

Maria had never been happier. The day after winning her championship title, she had won love itself.

She wanted to speak to Matthew, but seeing him staring at her with such intensity, she held her tongue. She sat quietly on the bed, hands on her knees, admiring his handsome body and face.

Just as it is for men with women, a woman's first impression of a man is his face and physique.

The only difference is that women also take a man's wealth and status into account.

This is a country of faces and fortunes.

In any case, Matthew was more than attractive enough.

After wrestling with his thoughts and replaying the night for the hundredth time, Matthew snapped back to the present.

"Maria." Matthew remained the perfect gentleman, his acting skills honed over the years, allowing him to slip into character with effortless ease. "Are you hungry? I'll order breakfast."

Maria looked at Matthew and simply smiled, saying nothing.

Matthew walked over and gently ruffled her hair. "What's on your mind?"

"Ah~" Lost in her daydreams of a sweeping romance, Maria came back to herself, looked up at Matthew, and asked, "What did you say?"

Matthew couldn't help but shake his head and smile. "Should I order breakfast?" he repeated.

Maria nodded. "Mhm."

As Matthew went to call room service, Maria followed close behind. When he finished ordering, she leaned in from behind him and whispered, "Should we go watch the men's final together this afternoon?"

"Well..." Matthew feigned a thoughtful expression before replying, "I'm sorry, I have other plans today. I have a meeting at Rolex... I'm their brand ambassador and need to discuss my contract, so I'm afraid I can't."

Going to Arthur Ashe Stadium to scout professional sportswomen was one thing, but sitting through the men's singles final was another entirely.

Maria, still lost in her fantasies and blissfully unaware, said, "I won't go either, then."

She released her hold on Matthew and stretched. "I feel like sleeping in. I've been so tired lately."

Just after they spoke, the doorbell rang. Matthew answered it, and a waiter wheeled in their breakfast.

Unlike the Hollywood actresses Matthew was used to, Maria had a hearty appetite, eating even more than he did.

"The helicopter was just rented for last night," Matthew said, deciding not to lie. "It left early this morning. I've called a car to take you back."

"Alright." Maria finished her meal, wiped her mouth with a napkin, and reminded him, "You didn't give me what I asked for."

Matthew paused for a moment, then remembered. He slapped his forehead and said, "Wait a second."

He found the autographed photo he had prepared last night and handed it to Maria. She accepted it ceremoniously, then followed Matthew out of the suite and down to the hotel lobby, where a black Mercedes was already waiting at the entrance.

Mercedes-Benz was ready to begin a deeper, more comprehensive collaboration with Matthew and had dispatched a flagship business-class vehicle to be on call for him 24/7 at the hotel.

At the hotel entrance, a doorman opened the car door. Maria didn't get in immediately, turning to look at Matthew with affection.

"When will we see each other again?" she asked, her eyes full of anticipation.

Matthew replied with a serious look, "I'll call you when I'm done with work."

Maria turned to get into the car, then suddenly turned back. "Matthew..."

Just as Maria was about to get in, Matthew noticed someone to his left with a camera, apparently taking their picture. He wasn't bothered by it; Helen was right—gossip scandals helped stars gain exposure and stay relevant in the eyes of the media and the public.

So, seeing Maria turn back to him, he immediately stepped forward, gave the young woman a gentle kiss, patted her on the waist, and said, "Wait for my call."

Maria noticed the camera too but thought nothing of it. She nodded in response and got into the car.

The black Mercedes pulled away from the hotel entrance, merged into the traffic on Seventh Avenue, accelerated, and soon disappeared from view.

Inside the car, Maria took out the autographed photo of Matthew in his formal attire—he had the same charming look he'd given her at the award ceremony yesterday.

She loved the way Matthew looked.

After gazing at it for a while, she took out her phone. First, she found the number Matthew had called from last night and saved it to her contacts. Then, placing the photo on her lap, she switched on her phone's camera and took several pictures in quick succession.

She decided she would upload the photos to her personal blog when she got back so her fans could share in her joy.

Matthew saw some paparazzi drive off after the Mercedes while others photographed him. He ignored them, turned back into the hotel, and called the suite's housekeeper to ask her to clear out the room full of roses.

He had to stay in New York for the next few days and had no desire to share his suite with a room full of roses.

He then went to the lounge on the ground floor, intending to sit for a bit, wait for the housekeeper to finish cleaning, and then go back up to catch up on sleep.

Shortly after he sat down, his cell phone rang unexpectedly. Matthew glanced at the screen: it was Helen.

"Hello, Helen," he answered.

"I just left JFK," Helen's words came as a surprise. "You're at the hotel, right? I'll pick you up. We're going to Marvel headquarters. They want to speak with you directly."
