Rhaegar
She was killing me. I was dying inside. I hated seeing her cry. Nalya was begging me not to do this, but later she would thank me when she was happy away from here.
Nalya was confused, shaking her head and closing her ears. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I chanted in my head.
"You're a kid, a rogue who is not strong enough to lead by my side. The people won't accept a rankless wolf as their princess,"
'What happened to be gentle, asshat,' my wolf spat. I blocked him out. Nalya zoned out after my words. I didn't know what she was thinking. I cupped her face, and she looked at me with an empty gaze.
"I didn't choose to," she repeated, those words fucking broke me, and I wanted to hug her. I noticed she excessively rubbed her wrists together and breathing heavily. I tried to calm her in a soothing tone;
"I know, Nalya, this is hard for me too, however, it's the right decision,"
"It's right for you. You're just embarrassed that the mighty prince of wolves is mated to a lowly rogue," she spat.
Nalya didn't know the pressure that came from being mated to me. She would be obligated to give me an heir in the first year of being mated to secure the line. She was young and had her whole life to have kids.
"Stop it. You're hurting your wrists," I ordered, holding her hands. Her rubbing had become intense.
"I, Alpha Prince Rhaegar Silvius reject you, Nalya Martin, as my mate and Luna," I spoke the words and looked away immediately. I heard it was painful, but she didn't scream, and I was grateful she didn't suffer physical pain.
"Hey, you need to accept the rejection now," I told her gently.
"I can't," she cried. I pulled her in my arms, hugging her. She wrapped her arms around my waist. We pulled apart, and I gave her a bottle of water. She drank it slowly and inhaled.
She opened her mouth only to close it again, " M-my wolf is not letting me,"
She was still new at this, hence, she didn't know how to block her out. It was a battle for power between them.
"She wants some time to come to terms with this," she informed me.
"That's understandable, I'll give you time but not too much, and also, you can't tell anyone of our bond," I told her. She looked out the window and nodded.
Nalya looked tired and drained of all her energy. She must have talked a lot. I'd never heard her produce so many words at once.
"Do you want to rest?" I asked.
"I have work," she answered.
"You don't have to go. I'll tell Madam Royce to free you from your obligations, besides, it's your eighteenth birthday today. Happy birthday, Nalya," I kissed her cheek just as the door opened and my baby brother entered the room. He looked furious at me.
"Roman," Nalya pulled away from me and faced him. Did they know each other? Nalya's face fell when my brother looked at her with disgust-filled eyes.
Nalya walked out of the room, wiping tears from her face. I frowned and looked at my brother.
"What was that?"
Before I could comprehend anything, he punched me so hard in the face.
"What did I do this time?" I growled.
"You had to make her your whore too, didn't you. Gosh, you're so shameless, Rhaegar," he started to walk away, but I grabbed his shoulder.
"It's not like that,"
"Then what is it like? I saw you two kissing in the laundry room the other day. She was my friend. Nalya was innocent, nice, and genuinely a good person. Now you spoilt her!" he shouted, " Of all she-wolves, you could fuck why did it have to be her?!"
I couldn't tell Roma it wasn't as he thought because he'd fuss over me rejecting her.
"I didn't know. I'm sorry, Roma," I said, but he only glared at me.
"Why are you here? Do you want more money? form signed?" I asked.
"We'll be leaving the pack next week, basketball program," he said gruffly. I got his phone and read the form before signing it as his legal guardian.
"Wait," I said before he left. " Do you want to have breakfast with me? We can go to whatever restaurant of your choice, Four Seasons, Mackaru, Checkers, anywhere you want," I told him some of his favorite places.
"No, I don't want to see your face for now,"
"Why are you always angry at me lately?" I asked.
"I'm late for school," he grumbled and left.
I went to the mini bar, getting a bottle of bourbon. I grabbed the photo of Roma as a kid. I raised him since our parents died when he was four years old with the help of their best friend, Nadia.
