Chapter 59
Thump, thump.
Sigrin Ebenkera clutched her heart.
Whew, I almost got caught.
Waiting outside, I climbed a tree with Bilha’s help to spy on the situation inside through the window.
Then, I locked eyes with the Milpain boss and quickly hid.
Eek, so exciting!! Why didn’t I think of screwing them over like this sooner??
Kiriki chattered excitedly through telepathy.
Calm down. It’s not over until it’s over.
Okay, got it! Sigrin, by the way, Sonya’s car just passed the street with the theater. The Milpain folks are following 50 meters behind.
Kiriki’s team, the Movement Team, was trailing Sonya’s car.
“The distance is wide enough. It’s time to start occupying.”
“Man, the building’s practically empty.”
Luca whistled.
“They’re rushing to put out the fire, so they’ve sent all their forces to the farm. Still, we shouldn’t let our guard down.”
About ten people remained in the building, including one or two seemingly strong executives.
“Operation start.”
Crash!
Bilha jumped from the tree, broke through the meeting room window, and entered. He glanced at me, cleared the glass shards from the frame, and nodded for me to come in.
“Alright, I’m next?”
“Wait, carry me with the rope tied to the tree.”
“…Yes, Princess.”
Luca carried me on his back and quietly entered the building.
Then, he tied the rope from the tree to furniture inside the meeting room.
Thanks to that, less agile Infiltration Team members, including no-core Apple, could easily enter using the rope.
✦ ✦ ✦
Even with soundproofing, the meeting room couldn’t completely muffle the sound of breaking glass.
Step, step, step.
“What was that noise?”
“Sounded like glass breaking?”
Voices of people approaching the meeting room echoed.
“Here they come.”
Click!
Loading my airsoft gun from a blind spot, I swallowed hard.
Bang!
I checked the opponent’s core and pulled the trigger.
Pop, pop!
The light bullet’s sound was soft.
As fluorescent light filled my eyes, a glowing line traced through the air.
Wither-Wither Core!
The member stumbled as his strength drained, and Luca and Bilha took down one each in the gap.
It was so easy, Luca looked at me in surprise.
“…I wondered what you were doing with a toy gun, but that’s the skill you used against me, right?”
“Shh, no time for chit-chat. Tie up the fallen and start occupying the second floor. Lead the way.”
I deflected, worried Luca would pick a fight if he figured out my skill.
With Luca in the lead, the Infiltration Team took room after room.
I shot from a distance to neutralize enemies, and Luca struck vital points to knock them out.
“Bilha, watch our backs.”
“…?”
Apple grabbed Bilha’s shoulder and turned him.
“Just keep looking behind us.”
Bilha and the other Infiltration Team members watched our rear, checking for anyone approaching from other directions and subduing them quickly.
They took down five people, one of whom was an executive.
That executive took five Chemforce-wrapped light bullets to neutralize.
It was tough.
“Sigrin, I found a key ring in this guy’s pocket.”
Luca tossed the keys to me from a captive’s pocket.
“Don’t throw, hand them gently.”
“Oh, uh… sorry. Didn’t think you’d miss.”
“These look like keys to the armory and magic tool storage. Oh, there’s a car key too.”
We grabbed what we needed and finished occupying the second floor.
Robbing an empty house was easy.
Now for the first floor.
✦ ✦ ✦
The first floor likely had three to five people gathered in a large hall, so the entire Infiltration Team had to act.
“Is there a fight upstairs? Why’s it so noisy?”
Sensing something off, first-floor people started heading to the second floor.
About three of them.
Looking down at the approaching group, Bilha leaped toward them.
“Basha!”
Crash!
Bilha extended his bent legs mid-air, kicking the first person down the stairs. He and three others tumbled like dominoes to the bottom.
Thud.
Bilha pressed his weight down on the three, pinning them.
Then, he pulled sand from a sandbag and dumped it on their heads.
“What’s this??”
“Argh, my arm’s broken!!”
“My eyes! There’s sand in them!!”
“Where’d these kids come from?!”
While Bilha subdued them, Luca knocked out each one with a bat he found somewhere.
“What’s up, Bilha? Worth all that feeding.”
“…?”
One of the three pinned by Bilha was an executive, quite strong-looking.
He reached for a dropped sledgehammer.
Seeing this, I panicked, worried Bilha would get attacked.
I quickly kicked the sledgehammer away.
Crack.
“Argh!”
The effect was spectacular—for me!
Injured, I clutched my foot, hopping and rolling on the floor.
“…”
Bilha stared at me, dumbfounded.
Amid the chaos, Luca swiftly knocked out another threatening executive.
“First floor secured.”
Since we didn’t give them a chance to use their abilities, it went smoothly.
“It’s… over?”
“Yeah, easier than expected.”
“Thank goodness…”
Apple, who stayed back tying up hostages, teared up.
Thanks to my strange ability, the expected brawl didn’t happen, and it ended peacefully.
I’m so glad I wasn’t a burden. Thank goodness I didn’t make things worse.
Apple praised herself for mustering the courage to follow me.
If she hadn’t, she’d have been jealous of the special memories Luca and Bilha made.
Though I didn’t help much.
Feeling down, Apple gripped the Intermediate Potions I’d given her.
“It’s unlikely, but… anyone hurt? I have potions from Sigrin.”
“There.”
Bilha pointed at me, rolling on the floor clutching my foot.
“!#$!#@##@!!!!”
“…?”
Everyone surrounded me, looking down in confusion.
They were about to celebrate a flawless victory, but the key figure was on the ground.
“…Hey, what’s wrong? You okay?”
“Young lady, what happened!”
“Leader! Are you alright?!”
“She was fine earlier—did a hidden member ambush her?”
“She just did it to herself. Hilarious.”
“Where’s the potion? The princess is dying.”
Apple fumbled, pouring potion into my pained mouth.
Swallowing my tears, I gulped it down.
I was too hasty, using my fragile toes recklessly.
“I thought I was gonna die… Thank you, Apple.”
“…It’s nothing. It’s your potion anyway.”
Thankfully, the pain subsided quickly after drinking the potion.
