Chapter 190 3 Top Male Models
Chapter 190 3 Top Male Models
Gu Yanshen sat in the middle, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing a section of his lean and powerful wrist. He leaned back slightly against the sofa back, the light highlighting the sharp lines of his profile—high and deep brow bones, a straight nose, and a jawline as clean as the sharp end of a paper cutter. He didn't look at anyone; his gaze was fixed on a point in the void, as cold and aloof as an unyielding snow-capped mountain.
Lin Chen sat to his left, relaxed, one leg crossed over the other, a phone in his hand. He wore a thin, dark gray sweater, the collar slightly open, revealing a sliver of his collarbone. His good looks were understated—gentle eyes and a slight upturn at the corners of his lips, as if he were always listening to you, yet also as if he hadn't heard a word. The light fell on him, enveloping him in a soft glow, making him appear as refined as someone who had stepped out of an old painting.
Xue Jingyan sat to his right, wearing a dark coat, with a black medical kit at his feet. He stood tall and straight, like a slender poplar tree. Gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, and behind the lenses, his eyes were clear and focused, exuding a refined yet reassuring strength.
Three men, three different temperaments, three completely different kinds of good looks.
The light cast their shadows on the floor, overlapping and then separating.
As Lu Xiran watched this scene, she suddenly felt that this moment should not be disturbed.
Gu Yanshen was the first to see her. He stood up quickly, "Awake?"
Lin Chen and Xue Jingyan looked up at the same time. All three of them were looking at her, six gazes, each with its own weight.
Lu Xiran looked down at her bare feet. She had forgotten to wear slippers. Her toes curled up, feeling a little cold on the icy floor.
Gu Yanshen simply swept her up in his arms, disregarding the presence of the other two people, and gently placed her on the sofa.
Are you hungry?
She wanted to say she wasn't hungry, but her stomach answered for her—a rumble that was particularly clear in the quiet living room. Her face flushed.
Gu Yanshen didn't laugh. He simply turned and walked into the kitchen.
"Why is Dr. Xue here?" Lu Xiran carefully chose her words, her voice carrying a hint of nervousness that she herself was unaware of.
Xue Jingyan glanced at Lin Chen, who nodded slightly. "Yan Shen asked me to do a test for you."
Her heart suddenly started racing. She looked up and met Gu Yanshen's gaze as he walked over from the island platform. His face was expressionless, but his eyes spoke volumes—they held tension and anticipation.
"Okay," she said.
She initially wanted to refuse, but she herself was more eager to know the answer.
"Do you want to finish eating before you take the test?"
Lu Xiran shook her head. "The testing will take time, Dr. Xue, please draw my blood first."
Xue Jingyan opened the medical kit and took out syringes, tourniquets, and antiseptic wipes. Gu Yanshen was already standing beside her at some point.
"Hold out your hand." His voice was gentle.
Lu Xiran stretched out her arm, rolling up her sleeve to reveal her fair elbow. Xue Jingyan applied the tourniquet, patted the back of her hand, and looked for a vein. She frowned slightly when the needle pierced her skin. Gu Yanshen placed his hand a centimeter behind her, protecting her.
It doesn't hurt. It's just cold.
She looked up at Gu Yanshen. His lips were pressed into a line, and his jaw was taut, as if he was enduring something.
Blood flowed slowly into the test tube. Deep red, it swayed within the transparent tube.
Xue Jingyan pulled out the needle and pressed a cotton ball against the injection site. "All done. We'll have to wait for the results."
Lu Xiran nodded.
Gu Yanshen turned and went into the kitchen to continue cooking the unfinished pot of noodles. Xue Jingyan carried the medical kit to the study.
A moment later, Gu Yanshen brought out a bowl of noodles. The broth was made with tomatoes, a bright red color, with emerald green scallions floating on top, and a poached egg nestled in the center. He placed the noodles on the table, pulled out a chair, and then carried Lu Xiran to the counter.
"Eat."
"Aren't you going to eat?" Lu Xiran looked at the three of them; they didn't seem to have eaten.
"We'll eat later." Lin Chen walked over, his voice carrying a hint of nervousness that even he himself didn't realize.
Lu Xiran lowered her head to eat noodles, but her hand unconsciously covered her lower abdomen.
Gu Yanshen sat opposite her, watching her eat without blinking.
She felt uncomfortable under that gaze and couldn't help but mutter, "Gu Yanshen, stop looking at me." Her tone was both petulant and slightly coquettish.
Gu Yanshen awkwardly got up and hurriedly started to tidy up.
Xue Jingyan came out of the study.
Everyone was looking at him.
"Got it—"
Two words, spoken very softly. But the moment they landed, the entire living room seemed to be put on pause.
Lu Xiran froze. She was still holding her chopsticks; a noodle slipped from the tip and fell back into the bowl, splashing a small drop of soup. She looked down at her lower abdomen, which was still flat and soft, showing no obvious signs of anything. But something was different.
She couldn't explain it. She just felt that a seed had suddenly fallen into that long-abandoned place. She thought it would never happen again.
She thought that the doctor's words three and a half years ago, "It's damaged the foundation," were the final verdict. She thought she had accepted it, let it go, and stopped thinking about it.
But at that moment, when those two words hit my ears, tears welled up without warning, blocking my eyes, and I couldn't swallow them back.
She cried. There was no sound, only tears falling one by one, landing on the back of her hand, on the rim of the bowl, and on the grievances she herself couldn't even explain.
Gu Yanshen was completely stunned. He stood there, numb from head to toe. His mind was blank, his ears were ringing, and only those two words echoed repeatedly—"I've got it, I've got it, I've got it."
He thought he would never have another chance in his life. He thought he was unworthy.
But it turns out, fate did have a gift for him. Not compensation, not pity, but a gift.
His eyes reddened. A tear slid down his cheek, down his nose, and landed on his clenched fist. He didn't wipe it away; he just stood there, letting the tear dry on its own.
Lin Chen was the first to react. He sprang up from the sofa, abandoning his usual gentle and refined demeanor, and jumped like a child, exclaiming, "I'm going to be a great-uncle!"
The noise was so loud that it startled Xue Jingyan. Xue Jingyan pushed up his glasses, a smile curving his lips, but he didn't say anything, just stared at the two people—one crying so hard he couldn't speak, and the other standing like a wooden statue.
Gu Yanshen finally moved. He walked up to Lu Xiran, squatted down, and looked her straight in the eye. Her eyes were red, with tears clinging to her eyelashes, and her nose was also red; she looked like a little rabbit just pulled out of the water. He reached out and pulled her into his arms.
His arms encircled her waist, his palms resting gently on her lower abdomen, as if afraid of breaking something.
"Ranran." His voice was terribly hoarse. "We're going to have a baby."
