Chapter 158 Don't even think about leaving
Lu Xiran followed Gu Yanshen into the house.
The entryway light was still on, its dim glow falling on his back, outlining his features as cold and hard as a mountain. She stood a few steps behind him, looking at his back, and suddenly felt a little unfamiliar with him.
"Mr. Gu."
The two words she uttered were light and airy, yet they clearly made Gu Yanshen's back stiffen.
It's not meant to be profound.
It wasn't Gu Yanshen either.
He's not an old man either.
Instead, it was the unfamiliar CEO, Mr. Gu.
He didn't turn around.
Lu Xiran lowered her eyes, refusing to look at him.
"Something happened at Yunyuji last night that I'd like to tell you about."
Gu Yanshen didn't speak; he just stood there.
Lu Xiran took a deep breath and continued speaking.
"Last night, an older employee, acting on someone's instructions, put something in your food..."
Gu Yanshen finally made a move.
He slowly walked to the island counter, poured two glasses of warm water, and placed them on the table. His movements were slow, as if he were giving her time to continue speaking.
Lu Xiran followed him almost instinctively and sat down next to him.
A glass of water was pushed in front of her.
She was thirsty.
She picked up the cup, brought it to her lips, and the warm water slid down her throat. She drank a little too quickly, and a few drops slid down the corner of her mouth, landing on her collarbone, feeling cool.
She put down the cup and wiped it with her fingertip.
Gu Yanshen's gaze followed the drop of water until it disappeared at the top of her collar.
Then he looked away.
He picked up his glass but didn't drink it. "Is this about you?"
"Mm." Lu Xiran nodded.
Gu Yanshen remained silent for a few seconds.
"I see."
Lu Xiran was stunned.
"what?"
It's that simple? Someone poisoned him? And he was the only one who knew?
She looked up at him. His face was expressionless, but his gaze lingered on hers as if he were looking at something long forgotten. She wore light makeup, but beneath the foundation, her skin still lacked color.
"You won't pursue this, will you?" she asked tentatively.
"There's nothing to pursue." Gu Yanshen stood up, took his water glass, walked to the French window, and turned his back to her. "If I had to pursue even something like this, I wouldn't be able to handle it all."
As Lu Xiran watched that figure recede into the distance, a sudden wave of bitterness washed over her.
"We've already sent it for testing."
"I won't eat those dishes either." He turned around, looked at her, and there was something in his eyes that she couldn't understand. "These tricks won't work on me at all."
"But..." Lu Xiran bit her lip, "His child still needs him. So, could you..."
"It's up to you." Gu Yanshen walked back to the sofa, sat down, and said, "I'll pretend I don't know anything."
Lu Xiran opened her mouth.
"I……"
"Lu Xiran." Gu Yanshen looked at her, his gaze deep. "Is there anything else you want to say to me?"
Something was churning in his voice. He was actually very angry, furious to the point of madness. He had seen her with Xin Mubai—he was consumed by jealousy.
But she knew nothing.
"Don't worry, as the person in charge of Yunyuji, I will investigate this matter thoroughly." Lu Xiran looked back at him earnestly, "The samples have already been..."
"What are you investigating?" Gu Yanshen interrupted her, his usually calm tone finally showing a hint of impatience. "I've already said, this matter ends here."
"No!" Lu Xiran looked at him, unyielding. "We must find out. Who is it that has repeatedly reached into Yunyuji's hands—"
"Lu Xiran, weren't you going back to Switzerland?"
Lu Xiran's words stuck in her throat.
She stared at him blankly, then proudly turned her head away. "I have a week. I'll find out before I go back!"
She turned to leave.
My wrist was grabbed.
The force was so great that she couldn't break free.
"Why can't you listen to me?" Gu Yanshen's voice came from behind, suppressing his anger. "Can't you just go back and live a normal life without caring about anything?"
Lu Xiran forcefully shook him off.
"I can't do it." She turned to look at him. "Gu Yanshen, even if it weren't for you, I have to find out for Yunyuji's sake. I need to know who is targeting this place again and again."
"Their target is me, not Yun Yu Ji." Gu Yanshen looked at her, something shattering in his eyes. "I don't care anymore, so why are you dragging me into this?"
"How do you know their target isn't Yunyuji if you don't investigate?"
Gu Yanshen sighed.
That sigh sounded like something had finally given way.
"Lu Xiran," his voice softened, almost pleading, "go back to Switzerland. Don't worry about it anymore."
Lu Xiran glared at him.
"You have no right to interfere in Yunyuji's affairs."
She turned around again.
This time, she couldn't get out.
She was suddenly pulled into a hug. His arms wrapped around her from behind, tightly encircling her waist. His chin rested on the top of her head, his breathing heavy and erratic.
"If you investigate further, I won't let you leave until you return to Switzerland."
Lu Xiran froze. "What do you mean?"
"You'll stay here this week."
"This is imprisonment!"
"I'll talk to your uncle about it." He tightened his grip, so tight she could barely breathe. "Anyway, you've already taken the week off."
In short, she couldn't do anything about him.
Lu Xiran struggled for a moment, but didn't move.
"That won't do," she suddenly remembered something, "Xin Mubai asks me to dinner every day."
Gu Yanshen's arm stiffened for a second.
Taking advantage of the moment, Lu Xiran suddenly broke free.
She took two steps forward, but before she even reached the door, she was suddenly lifted into the air.
He picked her up in his arms.
"Let me go!" she pounded on his shoulder.
Gu Yanshen ignored her. He strode to the sofa, put her down, and then leaned over and pressed down on her.
He braced his hands on either side of her, trapping her beneath him.
"You know you can't escape."
His voice was very low, as if it were being ground out of his chest.
Lu Xiran looked at him.
Looking at his tightly furrowed brows, and the barely suppressed anger in his eyes.
She suddenly remembered Jin Qiqi's words—"That bastard is so infuriating."
Seeing his embarrassed expression made me feel quite pleased.
"Yes." She looked up at him without fear. "I owe him ten meals. If I count dinner and supper as half a meal, then I had to eat dinner and supper with him every day before I went to Switzerland."
Gu Yanshen's brows furrowed even deeper.
There was anger burning in those eyes.
That was an almost out-of-control rage after his absolute possessiveness was provoked.
"Mr. Gu," Lu Xiran looked at him, a slight smile even appearing on her lips, "he's not so easily dealt with. Are you going to take control of my phone too?"
She paused, then reached out and pushed him away.
"wrong."
She sat up and looked at him.
"You said my love burdens you. But others don't."
She spoke slowly and deliberately.
"Gu Yanshen, if you don't want me, plenty of other people are pursuing me."
She looked at him.
"Do you know how many people have pursued me during these three years in Switzerland?"
