Chapter 11 A Strange Feeling of Peace
Chapter 11 A Strange Feeling of Peace
Qi Sihang handed a document to Gu Yanshen.
Gu Yanshen didn't even glance at it, handing it directly to Captain Li, his voice clear and steady: "My fiancée traveled with me on a private plane from Singapore back to China that day. This is the passenger list for the flight, which has been filed with the authorities. If you still don't believe me, you can immediately retrieve the airport's entry surveillance records from that day."
Lu Xiran stared blankly at his profile, her fingertips curling slightly.
"This..." Captain Li was speechless for a moment. He had not expected to face Gu Yanshen when he received the order, let alone that Gu Yanshen had made such thorough preparations.
"If that's the case, why has Ms. Lu never made a public appearance before?" the young policeman persisted.
Gu Yanshen glanced at it indifferently, his gaze carrying an unyielding distance: "Does my private matter with my fiancée require me to report my itinerary to your bureau?" He paused, his tone becoming even more somber: "Every flight of my private jet is reported in accordance with regulations, and the passenger list is verifiable. If Captain Li has the authority, he can verify it now."
Having said all that, his attitude was extremely calm and composed.
Team Leader Li understood that Gu Yanshen's confidence in front of the media meant he had already smoothed things over.
He could only watch Gu Yanshen in silence, no longer insisting.
At that moment, Lu Hao rushed over, pushed through the crowd, and his face instantly filled with excitement and sorrow: "Ranran! My daughter!"
He burst into tears and reached out to pull Lu Xiran away, but Gu Yanshen stepped forward and firmly blocked him.
"Mr. Lu," Gu Yanshen's voice wasn't loud, but it overwhelmed the noise in the room, "your wife just brought over ten bodyguards and forcibly brought my fiancée here. Before talking about father-daughter affection, shouldn't you first ask your wife to explain clearly—what exactly does she intend to do to my fiancée?"
Lu Hao's eyes flickered as he glanced at the densely packed cameras around him, forcing a smile as he said, "This must be a misunderstanding..."
"A misunderstanding?" Gu Yanshen leaned forward slightly, speaking in a low, clear voice that only the two of them could hear, "Does President Lu really want us to lay out everything that happened before in front of all the media?"
The words were sharp and contained a hidden warning.
Lu Hao's expression froze, and his outstretched hand finally slowly lowered as he stepped aside.
Gu Yanshen didn't look at him again, turned around, and naturally took Lu Xiran's hand.
His palm completely enveloped her slightly cool fingers, and he led her through the flashing lights and bustling crowd, heading outside.
Lu Xiran followed beside him, almost jogging to keep up with his pace. She looked up and saw his sharply defined jawline, straight nose, and those eyes that were slightly cold yet unusually firm at that moment.
The light from the corridor cast a soft halo around him. He held her hand firmly, leading her step by step away from that suffocating chaos and malice.
The reporter tried to follow, but was politely but firmly kept away by Gu Yanshen's entourage. He kept her on the inside, using his body to shield her from all prying eyes and potential risks.
Stepping out of the building, a night breeze rushed towards me.
The headlights of a car parked at the door pierced the darkness. He opened the car door for her, his hand gentlemanly protecting her on the top frame. As she leaned in to get in, his deep voice whispered in her ear, "It's alright."
"Wu Lu?"
"Don't worry." Gu Yanshen gently closed the car door, shutting out all the noise.
The car was quiet, with only the soft sound of each other's breathing.
Lu Xiran leaned back in her chair, watching the rapidly receding light outside the window, the warmth of his hand still lingering on her wrist.
My heart was pounding so hard at that moment that it couldn't be ignored.
Tonight's events felt like a breathtaking dream. And he always appeared out of nowhere in her most helpless moments, protecting her behind him.
She knew he might never truly love her, but her heart wouldn't listen to reason, and in each moment he protected her, she quietly and completely fell for him.
Lu Xiran quietly turned her head and looked at Gu Yanshen, who had a calm expression.
The light and shadow outside the car window flickered on his face. She pursed her lips, silently suppressing the bittersweet feelings in the softest corner of her heart.
After a moment of silence in the car, Gu Yanshen spoke first.
"It was my oversight." He frowned slightly, his gaze fixed on the night ahead, but the image of the cold-glowing syringe in Lin Li's hand kept flashing through his mind—it was just a hair's breadth away.
This thought made him unconsciously tighten his grip on the steering wheel.
Lu Xiran was stunned; she had never expected him to say that.
She turned her head, looking at his sharply defined profile, which appeared somewhat melancholic in the shifting light and shadow outside the window. "No, Uncle," she quickly explained, "you saved me again." She paused, her eyelashes drooping, "I don't even know... how to thank you enough."
Gu Yanshen did not respond immediately.
The car smoothly entered the underground parking garage of a skyscraper in the heart of Haicheng's CBD. He parked the car, leaned over, and unbuckled her seatbelt. "Now that our identities are public," he said, his tone regaining its usual composure, "we'll be living here from now on."
Lu Xiran followed him out of the car, and even as a daughter of the Lu family, she couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of Gu's top-tier residential complex. The elevator that went straight to the top floor was extremely fast, yet almost silent.
He led her into the penthouse suite. The view suddenly opened up, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of Haicheng's dazzling nightscape, a galaxy of cars and neon lights stretching out before her.
"You'll stay in this room." Gu Yanshen pushed open the door to another suite next to the master bedroom; the furnishings were elegant and comfortable. He turned to look at her, his voice exceptionally clear in the spacious room: "We have a lot to discuss. Would you like to rest first today, or...?"
"I'm fine," Lu Xiran quickly shook her head, her fingertips unconsciously clenching the hem of her clothes. "I can talk. I... actually have a lot of questions I want to ask you." She looked up, her doe-like eyes reflecting the dappled light from the overhead lamp. "I just don't know if it's... convenient for you?"
Gu Yanshen glanced at his watch, his expression softening. "Then you should freshen up and change into something comfortable." His tone was gentle, as if he were negotiating. "How about we talk over dinner in half an hour?"
He stood there, the vast cityscape visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him. His voice wasn't loud, but it carried a reassuring steadiness. Lu Xiran nodded, the taut string in her heart seemingly finally relaxing a little.
