Naomi's POV
"So you don't want to tell me?" Bianca speaks up while I try to clean the kitchen after cooking.
When Killian left after Bianca caught us kissing, She'd been asking me what was going on between Killian and I. I seriously don't know what's happening between us. I disliked the guy months ago when I first met him, not because he really did anything to me, but because he was a selfish, egotistical, and privileged asshole.
If I can recall, counting from the very first day we had a conversation, Killian has been nice to me. Well, he flirts a lot, and he can be perverted sometimes, but he's nice. I guess he can be an asshole and a jerk-face when he wants to.
"Naomi, can you say something?"
I pause what I'm doing. "What do you want me to say?"
"I don't know. I walked into our apartment and saw you tongue-tied with this hot guy you swore not to be involved with…"
"I didn't swear."
"It doesn't matter." Bianca waves me off. "You guys were tongue-tied, with his tongue down your throat in the middle of our apartment. You guys were gropi…"
"Ew, Bia, please don't." I giggle and shake my head. "It's complicated."
"I'm all ears." Bianca shrugs, smiling ear to ear.
"Well, he dropped by the apartment today because of this job thing. When I went over to his company to submit my resumé, I met this redhead, ugly bitch and she didn't give me the job. That was why he was here today. We talked, we uh…" I clear my throat, with my cheeks already burning red as I look away from Bianca.
Bianca grins.
"Well, he leaned in for a kiss and I kissed back," I mutter and cross my arms.
"Holy fuck stick! Holy shit monkey!" Bianca exclaims. I stare at her in awe as she smiles.
"Holy fuck stick? Holy shit monkey?" I ask her, laughing. "Where the hell did you get that from?"
"Does it matter?" Bianca chuckles. "You and Killian Black kissed. That is hot and it's so amazing." She emphasizes like she was the one who kissed him. "Did you like it?"
"I don't know."
"Oh, come on, stop the pretense. We're no longer kids, we're grown-up adults."
I bite my lip and sit down on the kitchen stool.
"Yes, I liked it. I didn't even want to stop."
"Oh, my fucking God. Damn girl, you're my little slut."
"What?" I chuckle. "You're crazy."
"What was it like?" Bianca asks.
"How am I supposed to reply to that?"
"I don't know. You just gotta tell me what it's like to be exchanging spit with Killian."
"Ew. God, you're gross." I say. Bianca laughs.
"Oh, come on, you know what I mean. You were so into it, the kiss. Including him. He had his hands all over you and I was beyond shocked, trust me."
I smile. "Well, I gotta admit the kiss was better than I expected. It was so hot and so freaking good, I think I nearly came. It was better than George's and… you know 'he whose name shall never be named.'"
We burst into chuckles, shaking our heads.
"You're crazy, crazier than I am." Bianca chuckles and I shake my head.
"The thing I don't understand is that you don't like Killian Black. It's a surprise you're attracted to him."
"I didn't say that. I didn't say I wasn't attracted to Killian. Well, at first I didn't like him. He was just...I don't know, different from me, but I was kind of attracted to him. I'm a woman and you already know he's an attractive man. I wasn't ready to get involved with him. Not anytime soon." I’m not making any sense, am I?
"Mm. And you guys are, like, in a relationship now or what? You know, since he had his tongue down your throat." Bianca smirks at me.
I glare at her from underneath my lashes.
"We're not in a relationship. The fact that we just kissed doesn't mean that we're magically together. People kiss all the time, it doesn't have to mean anything."
"Okay. So are you gonna give him a chance?" Bianca asks. "Because what I saw minutes ago was nothing like I've seen before. That was hot and I saw the whole sexual tension between you two."
I sigh.
"Killian and I are two different people. He's this wealthy and powerful man who's got almost everything he wants. I, on the other hand, I'm just a random girl. Killian likes to play, Bia, I don't. Killian doesn't date, I date. I commit to friendship, family, my job, and even relationships. Killian Black is far from commitment. That man doesn't commit to anything, well, maybe except his business. Reasons why we are far apart."
"Fucking hell."
"Before I'm getting involved sexually with anyone, it has to be with someone that I want to be serious with and someone who really wants me. Cares about me. You know this whole benefits thing is not for me. I've seen a lot of people get involved sexually without really having feelings for each other, it always ended badly. Bad endings all the time. Trust me, I don't want that. I might be attracted to Killian Black doesn't mean I want to be with him, well except, he's proven he really wants to be with me, not just to sleep with me and bid me adieu."
"What if you just might have tamed his wild heart? What if he's willing to try a relationship with you?"
I'm quiet as I watch Bianca.
"That's impossible. I barely have done anything remotely interesting to tame his wild heart." I roll my eyes.
Bianca giggles.
"You might not know. Maybe he wants to try dating with you, and you really haven't given him a chance to explain what he wants. Also, I think you should put it out there for him. You should tell him you date, you commit, and you believe in forever after. Tell him that, and then you'll see if he's willing to rock this whole relationship boat with you or if he just wants to eat your cooch." Bianca smiles and I giggle.
"Also, if you need my opinion, I think doing this whole benefits thing with Killian might actually turn out great. There's a first time for everything." Bianca says and gives me a wink before setting up the table.
I bite the insides of my cheeks, with Killian's kisses the only thing on my mind. How his lips felt against mine and how his fingertips burned my skin with just his mere touch. God, I've never felt that way before by just merely kissing someone. I know I've never really fallen in love before. I never really loved any of my past boyfriends. I liked them because they were just nice. Haven was also nice for a while. I don't even know what it means to be in love. But I believe in love. I know one day I am gonna fall in love with someone and hopefully, this person is going to love me back.
It might not be today or tomorrow, but I know I'll fall in love someday. Right now, I just need to secure this job at KB TECH and commit myself to my work, and I'm definitely gonna be hardworking. Right now, this is my first priority, not fooling around with my boss because he's attractive and hell, he knows how to kiss and how to make me want him.
"By the way, why are you home? Aren't you supposed to be at your new job?"
"Ooh, that."
"Please tell me you got the job," I say and stop arranging the plates.
Bianca scoffs and chuckles.
"What? Yes, I got the job. And I'm officially resuming work on Monday. I dropped by the company today to retrieve my work ID, and key card, work on my new desk, and a tour around the company."
"That's great. What will you be doing?"
"Research analysis. So I'm literally a research analyst in Colton Corp. It's a great job, but obviously not what I was expecting. I was expecting something worse, but they gave me something better. The pay is good. I guess our Hawaii trip is finally happening since we both now have good jobs."
I smile and start to serve rice and chicken on our plates.
"Well, I haven't scored the job yet, I hope I do. I'm dropping by tomorrow and I'm hoping for good news."
"Don't worry. You've already locked lips with Killian, your job is secured."
"What?" I laugh, pulling back a chair to sit down so we can eat. Bianca does the same.
"You know it's true. I'm seeing a happy ending with you two." She says. I open my mouth to say something but she stops me.
"Nuh, uh, don't object. Be positive. You taught me that, remember?"
I huff. "Right."
–
Smoothing my hand down my black tight skirt that reaches my knee, I try to keep my nervousness and anxiety in check as I walk into the lobby of KB TECH. It's Friday and there are a lot of people walking about. I nearly barged into interns holding coffees trying to give them to their bosses. Killian did make sure his driver, Alvin, picked me up and drove me here. It was pretty sweet.
The first time I got here, I didn't bother to check the place out. But I have to do that today. I glanced around and marveled at how one man built this legacy. This is amazing and beautiful. I press the HR department's floor number on the elevator panel as I watch the doors close. It slowly starts to ascend.
I turn to look at my reflection through the elevator walls and I smooth my blouse, running my hand through my wavy hair just to make sure I look perfect. If I'm going to be honest with myself, I don't belong here, especially with my cheap clothing and cheap bag. One look at me, and you will know these are very cheap thrift wares I'm wearing, save for Bianca's skirt. Her ex-boyfriend, Dean, bought her this skirt. I wore it yesterday and I'm wearing it today. I made sure I took my time to look good just so I don't look like I don't belong.
I honestly don't belong. KB TECH is one of the top most influential companies in the world, slowly dominating the tech world. I guess I understand why Matilda-flat-nose told me she'd get in touch. I guess one look at me, she knows I won't survive here. But I'm not gonna give anybody that impression. I worked my ass off in college, with countless sleepless nights and caffeine just so I could study and I came out with good grades. I'm not gonna let anyone belittle me and tell me I don't belong here. I'm 85% sure my certificate is better than most workers here. That's a little confidence boost for me that I belong here.
The elevator doors open and I step out. I walk towards the receptionist's desk and give her a gentle smile.
"Hi. I'm here to see Matilda Simmons." I say to the receptionist.
She doesn't smile back but watches me from underneath her lashes.
"Is she expecting you?" Her voice is gruff, like sandpaper.
"Yes," I say.
The receptionist looks up from her computer and eyes my features, staring at me from my head to my toes. Are all KB TECH workers rude?
"Can you call and tell her Naomi Al…"
"Ms. Alderson!" A super chirpy voice calls my name.
The bitchy receptionist and I turn our heads to the unfamiliar voice. It's Matilda Simmons, AKA snobby rich hoe. I straighten my back and fully turn to look at her. Her smile is fake and her face looks like it has undergone a million Botox.
"This way, please." She leads me and I follow her, not before giving the bitchy receptionist the finger. She's taken aback.
"I've been expecting you, including Mr. Black." She says as I walk with her to her office.
I keep quiet till we reach Ms. Simmons' office. I shut the door behind me as she walks to her chair and sits down.
"Sit." Her chirpy voice is gone and it's replaced with a steel-like voice.
I shake my head and sit. She looks up at me, her green eyes studying me. She's wearing a smart suit compared to my thrift chiffon blouse and black skirt. I look like a freaking intern.
"Are you sleeping with Mr. Black?" Matilda asks at once. I’m taken by surprise at her audacity. I bite my lip, going through different words in my head to tell her, but I settle for a less insulting one.
"Why do you care?"
"Truth be told, Naomi, you don't deserve this job. You don't deserve to be here." This fucking bitch.
"Don't you think if I'm sleeping with your boss, I can literally get you fired for threatening me? I can just tell him you think I don't belong here and you know what that means, don't you?" I smirk at her and cross my arms.
Matilda clicks her tongue and pulls out a file. She signs her signature on the file, stamps it, and pushes it to me.
"You can give that to Raymond Knight. He's the marketing director. He will put you through." Matilda says with a scowl.
I don't thank her as I stand up with my bag.
"Y'all need to get your nose out of your ass," I say to Matilda as I walk out of her office, not bothering to close her office door.
I can be a bitch when I want to. I figured the best way to treat some of Killian's bitchy workers is to act bitchy towards them too. They act like they're sleeping with the CEO. If I can recall, Killian says he's never looked at female workers the way he looks at me. And I believe him. I press the top floor button, with my files in my hands and my handbag across my shoulders as I wait patiently. Once I reach the top floor, the elevator opens and I step out. This is the first time I've ever gotten to this floor. Yesterday, I didn't get past Matilda's floor.
The top floor is not that crowded like the HR department three floors below. There are a few workers around and at the far end lies a few cubicles with busy workers occupying them. I'm confused about where to go so I just walk towards the first office I see.
I knock on the slightly open door and there's a woman inside arranging different files. I give her a polite small smile and a wave. She waves me in and I enter.
"Hi." She looks friendly.
"You're new." It's not a question, it's a fact.
"Yeah."
"Marketing?" She asks.
"Yup."
"Okay. Once you leave my office, walk straight past Mr. Black's personal assistant's desk and towards the cubicles. You'll see his office. His name is Raymond Knight. He will put you through."
I breathe in a breath of relief. "Thanks. You're the first friendly female I've come across." I say.
She chuckles and waves me off.
"I understand how some of the workers can be snobby sometimes. It's not really easy working here. There is so much competition amongst the employees."
"Strange."
"Yeah, it is. By the way, I'm Emily. Emily Warren."
"Nice last name. I'm Naomi Alderson."
"Yours is even cooler." She chuckles. I do too.
"Are you, like, the secretary?"
"Yeah. For Mr. Black’s floor. You need anything, I'm just a few doors away." She smiles warmly.
Emily looks to be 37, but she looks younger than her age. She has blonde hair, fair skin, a little taller than me, and she's smartly dressed like every KB TECH worker. Her sharp blue eyes complement her features. I seem to be one of the youngest here, considering I've only seen women who are in their early thirties and late twenties.
"It is a pleasure meeting you, Emily."
"The pleasure is all mine. I hope we can be friends too."
"Yeah. I hope so too." I wave and smile at Emily as I leave Emily's office.
It isn't hard finding Raymond's office. The same guy at Club K and the guy who bought the dress I wore before leaving Killian's house weeks ago. I try to ignore the stares from most of the workers, including the male and female population, but it's hard.
"I'll send you a proper briefing on things you need to know about the company, the marketing team, and every other useful thing in your email," Raymond says.
I just sit and skim through the do's and don'ts. It's pretty weird having to see one.
"No meal during work hours?" I read the number 9 don'ts. "Cool," I add.
"You can be committed to your job, right?" Raymond asks. He seems strict, unlike the guy from the club and Killian's house.
"Yeah."
"And no late coming."
"That won't be a problem."
Raymond nods.
"You'll be getting your work badge on Monday and a keycard so you can easily gain access to the company without having to answer different questions for security reasons," Raymond says.
Well, I didn't answer any security questions yesterday and today. I guess Killian told them I'll be coming and they should let me in without any restrictions. I don't know what to think of that.
"Thank you."
Raymond nods and stands up.
"I'll show you to your cubicle. You'll be working there along with other marketing teammates. I hope you make good friends along your work journey here at KB TECH." Raymond says as we walk out of his office.
"Are you always uptight?" I ask, biting my lip and regretting why I asked that. "I didn't mean it like that. I'm just...you know…" I shrug, staring at Raymond as he gives me a passive look. "Nevermind."
I heard him laugh quietly, and for a second I thought I imagined it because it was gone before I could register his laugh. We pass other cubicles and stop in an empty one. It's empty, with no system or computer.
"This will be your work desk when you resume. By Monday, it should have a computer and other things you will be needing." Raymond says.
I give him an appreciative nod and glance around at the other cubicles occupied by different employees who steal glances at me while their fingers are busy typing on their keyboards.
"Thank you, Mr. Knight."
Raymond smiles. "It sounds weird coming from you, but Mr. Knight will do." Raymond says and shoves his hands down his pockets.
I smile too. "That will be all for now, right?"
"Yeah. I guess you'll be checking in with Mr. Black."
"Yeah. I need to see him before I leave."
"Sure. In case you are still around, I can assign someone to give you a tour of the building. You'll need it, at least for a start."
"Thank you." With one nod and a small smile, I turn around to leave.
There's an office at the corner, the biggest office with part of the wall plain glass, which is a one-way glass like the one in Club K and I assume it's Killian Black's office. I stop outside a desk and a guy is occupying it, he should be his personal assistant.
"Hi." I greet the blonde-haired guy with glasses.
"Hi." He smiles at me. The second person who's given me a genuine smile since I got here. "How may I help you?"
"Is Mr. Black in?"
"Yes. Do you have an appointment?"
"No. Just tell him Naomi is here."
"Okay." Jamie nods. Before he can reach for his telephone, a message buzzes through the intercom.
"Let her in, Jamie." It's Killian's voice. So, he sees me.
Jamie turns to look at me with a small smile.
"You can go inside."
"Thank you. Are you his personal assistant?"
"Yeah. Resumed yesterday. It's been pretty difficult for me."
"I'm really sorry about that. I know how hard it is to work for someone like Killian Black."
"Nah. Don't worry about me. I'll work it out." Jamie says. I smile.
"I know you will." With a small wave, I walk towards Killian's office.
I knock once and open the door as I step in. His office is nothing like what I've seen before. It's large, bigger than my living room, with a big brown couch at the end and a small glass table. There's a drink bar at the corner too and a door at the end, obviously his private restroom. It's beautiful.
My eyes glance around his office and then it falls on the extremely attractive man sitting behind a large mahogany desk, with his hands crossed in front of him. He's leaning back on his chair as he watches me, taking in my form from my head to my toe.
I just stand by his office door I had shut behind me minutes ago and stare at him, with my mind occupied by our kiss yesterday and how his hands felt against my bare skin. God, how much I'd give to do it again with him. And then I think about all his filthy promises to me. How he planned on bending me against his desk and eating me from behind.
Shit, I'm drained down there just thinking about all the dirty things he planned on doing to me.
Good call, Naomi. Good, fucking call.
"You surprise me every day, Naomi." Killian's voice snaps me out of my thoughts.
I blink my eyes and clear my throat. When did I become this shameless? Things Killian Black can do to a woman.
"When you're done fucking me in your mind, you can take a seat, and let's talk." He says, with a small smirk playing on his lips.
Talk? Right, talk. We really need to talk about our kiss yesterday. And the sooner we talk about it, the better for both of us.
"I wasn't eye sexing you." I lie as I sit down on the leather seat opposite Killian.
He smirks and nods, clearly not buying my terrible attempt at a lie.
"I know," Killian says, gray eyes staring into mine with amusement in them.
I clear my throat, not liking how he makes me feel under his heated gaze.
"Let's talk then."
