Chapter 81: The Virus Explained!
Chapter 81: The Virus Explained!
The zombie phenomenon was felt by Sam, he heard the growlings and the fact that they worked by smell and not sight made hiding pointless.
Jason’s blood was everywhere and this meant that it would be easy to locate him.
They had to find a place secure where Jason could ride out the storm,
"We need to leave," Sam said, it was hard seeing and he couldn’t risk compromising his position to the other enemies.
The zombies were both a blessing and a curse.
"I know but we can’t go far with Jason!" Clementine reminded Sam
Sam kissed his teeth, the thought of leaving Jason here did cross his mind but he knew that Clementine wouldn’t go for it so he had no choice but to come up with a solution.
If only they could find a car, this was one of the things that seemed like a luxury right now.
The roads were either blocked or there were no cars operable.
"Chronos, what is going on?" Jason asked the system because he didn’t know what was going on at this point but Chronos remained quiet.
"CHRONOS!" Jason exclaimed, granted all of this was in his head as he dare not say these words out loud or people will think he belongs in an asylum.
Clementine helped him up, Sam took it upon himself to defend them against threats that might persist.
Sam managed to take down a zombie with the dagger but he only severed the head because, in this darkness, the head would act as a sort of bear trap for anyone that happened to walk in its direction.
With its vocals gone, this zombie would bite anything that came into view.
Sam was relishing this, he was having the time of his life and his adrenaline was at an all-time high.
Sam and Clementine with Jason’s weight supported by the lady, walked in the direction of a house.
Sam walked ahead to do a quick sweeping of the building, this place was becoming chaotic but he wondered why the infection was spreading the way it did.
"Chronos, how does this virus truly spread?" Jason asked Chronos the moment they entered the building.
The building had even more zombies and this was because of Lorenzo going on a killing spree while searching for the Specters.
Sam made quick work of them but them being here meant that the building had no humans in them or they would have taken care of the zombies.
These were killers, surely something like this wouldn’t force them into hiding.
Sam knew that they needed to only stay here temporarily because he understood how chaotic outside was.
Jason was resting, he looked exhausted because he just escaped certain death.
He was impressed by how strong Sam was because he went hand-to-hand with a clearly skilled fighter.
It was like he was watching a movie with the way the fight progressed.
Jason wanted answers and he was going to get it even if it cost him his sanity.
"CHRONOS!" Jason inadvertently blurted out, this drew a confused look from Clementine who was sitting right in front of Jason.
[The Virus Can Be Spread Through A Zombie’s Bite But This Isn’t The Only Way It Can Spread. The Bite Kills The Infected Within 24 Hours And The Infected Turns Into A Zombie Upon Death.]
Chronos said; Jason needed to work on this silent treatment that he got from Chronos because what good was a system that only responded when it felt like it?
[The Virus Can Also Be Transmitted Through The Air But It Isn’t Fatal And Does Not Induce Death But The Infected Would Turn The Moment They Die.]
Chronos dropped the big bomb and this made everything worse.
The apocalypse just became a lot more complicated because now there was no way to tell who would turn and who wouldn’t but Jason had one thing that would help them all, and that was Chronos.
"How does it spread through the air? How did it become airborne?" Jason asked.
[The Zombies Emit A Chemical Into The Air And If You Stay Too Long In A Zombie Infested Area For Too Long, You Will Inhale These Chemicals Leaving The Virus Dormant Until Your Death!]
Chronos informed Jason and the only thing on the young man’s mind was...
"Am I infected?" Jason knew he would rather die and never come back to life because this looked like it was a fate worse than death at this point.
He also understood why these people were turning, it had to do with the zombies strung up around their camps and even the ones kept inside for their sick games.
Jason wondered if he was the only one with this information because there was no way that no one had died within this camp ever since the start of the apocalypse.
Chronos didn’t answer Jason’s question but he looked back at the questionable things that Chronos has had him do.
That boy that he killed, was it because the virus was dormant in him?
No, that couldn’t be it or Chronos would have told him this earlier.
Jason couldn’t help but think that Chronos was keeping something away from him and he was right.
Why Chronos wanted Lorenzo freed was a complete mystery and the fact that this was the thing that he needed Jason to do as per agreed in the contract showed just how important getting Lorenzo freed was but was this because he would aid in killing the Specters?
How did Chronos foresee all of this when it wasn’t God?
Jason was slowly beginning to understand the power of the system that he was blessed with, it had the ability and potential to directly interfere with reality, all it needed was a vessel to aid it in carrying out those actions.
Sam looked out the window, the sounds of gunshots and screaming filled the camp, he knew that this was going to be a long night but they couldn’t stay here.
"We need to leave," Sam blurted out and he was right, this place would soon become an attraction for the zombies nearby and if it was during the day, they would have no problems dealing with them but this darkness was no longer benefiting them the most but rather, the undead.
