Chapter 65: Rescue Team
Chapter 65: Rescue Team
Alex was done and had to brief the Specters about the task that they had sent him to undertake.
The room was dark, the curtains were down to shield them from the sun’s rays.
There were ten chairs arranged linearly, side by side but no one could see anything.
Alex didn’t get on one knee because this wasn’t medieval time but he clearly showed that he recognized their authority with his body language, all the chairs were empty except two.
"Well, Alex... Where is she and who have you brought back with you?" This was Cindy’s voice and she asked the all-important question.
The fact that the other Specters weren’t here showed that these two were the only ones that saw this as something important.
"I’m afraid that Bella managed to escape but I brought back the man that might have had a hand in killing Max and John. There was a man that showed skills that were on par with a trained killer, he killed a bunch of my men with ease. This is the man I believe is responsible for killing Max and John," Alex said with an indifferent tone.
He wasn’t intimidated by them and it showed in his voice.
"How did you let Bella escape?" Liam interrupted, this was the only thing he seemed focused on.
"If I chased her, I would have lost this boy but something strange occurred... Bella... She hesitated," Alex said and Liam let out a faint chuckle.
"There is no way Bella would hesitate, she only thinks about herself," Liam said mockingly.
"She did and that is why I decided that this man might be more important than Bella," Alex said this but the moment he said it, the atmosphere changed as Liam was furious to hear that someone was more important than Bella.
"What did you just say?" Liam asked and Alex sighed the moment he heard this as he had forgotten how sensitive Liam got on this subject.
"Liam, listen to him... Keep your emotions out of it," Cindy warned him, this prompted Liam to take a deep inhale, before exhaling to calm himself.
"Why wouldn’t she return, she shouldn’t be scared when she has me..." Liam said but he was talking to himself.
"I’m afraid if you don’t bring her under control, the others might put out a hit on her," Cindy warned him.
"You think I don’t know that? That was why I sent those two, they might be sick but they have a knack for finding people..." Liam said’ his actions were justified as Alex did find Bella thanks to both Max and John, each contributing in their way and a stroke of lady luck.
"Whatever it is that you plan to do with Bella, time is ticking," Cindy said and Liam kissed his teeth.
"I will go see the man that Alex brought then... I won’t let anyone touch Bella, I won’t let anyone touch my wife," Liam barked.
-
"Why shouldn’t I blow your brains out right now?" Sam asked Bella.
"If you do, Jason is as good as dead," Bella responded, this was her leverage and she could have easily escaped and left the area, the fact that she hung around meant that she expected them to take this exact route.
There was no way that they were going to leave Jason to his own devices, these people weren’t like that.
"Do you think I care about that guy?" Sam scoffed the moment he heard Bella trying to use Jason as a bargaining chip.
"I know you don’t but she does... Both of them do," Bella said and Sam raised an eyebrow as he glanced over at Clementine before returning his attention to Bella.
Sam’s finger began to pull on the trigger slowly but Clementine stopped him.
"Sam, you can’t kill her. If there is a chance to save Jason then we should explore it" Clementine said and Sam rolled his eyes as he tucked his gun away.
Bella proceeded to walk past Sam, she wasn’t fazed by the gun because she knew that they needed her more than she needed them right now.
"There is a crack in the barricade that we can exploit, follow me," Bella said but Sam grabbed her by the shoulder.
"Do you think I don’t know you’re leading us into a trap?" Sam asked but of course, he didn’t know, this was his attempt at reverse psychology.
"I don’t care what you believe. I might be a terrible person but Jason doesn’t deserve what’s about to happen to him and I will do my best to stop it. You can either join me and save him or you can do it yourself and die at the gates. I don’t give a fuck anymore so who is coming with me?" Bella asked, yanking Sam’s hand off her shoulder.
The tension in the air was evident, Sam wanted Bella’s head and he was looking for any excuse to claim it.
"I will go with you," Rachel said.
"Me too," Clementine followed after Rachel.
Sam couldn’t believe what he was hearing but he understood what the ladies were doing.
Sam was ready to execute Bella if she tried to do anything funny.
Bella led them and Sam was surprised that the place was this secure, it looked a lot better than the barricade that they had set up.
The corpses of zombies were hung around the entrance but they were still alive as they couldn’t make any noise because they had taken away their ability to do so.
They acted as a buffer for other zombies, and this was a smart thing to do in hindsight as it scared away potential threats as well.
Bella ducked, they were crouched and moving quietly so they couldn’t be perceived.
They waited for the sun to go down as they knew how important being stealthy was.
Bella knew the environment luckily and as she said, they managed to get past the first wave of security as they exploited the blindspot.
Sam saw people smoking on top of this makeshift wall, they had guns around their necks so this meant that they were not short on firepower.
They squeezed through a small hole within the wall that was "covered" up with a piece of cloth so it wouldn’t be so awkward.
"Hang in there Jason..." Rachel thought to herself.
