Chapter 325: I Love You
Chapter 325: I Love You
Rachel was flabbergasted but why did Jason tell Dimitris to take her if he was only going to return a few minutes later?
Why didn’t he just introduce himself? Dimitris was surprised but they still had a considerable amount of zombies to deal with.
"D-Don’t..." Jason commanded Dimitris when he tried to kill another one of the zombies walking his way but Dimitris realized that the zombies no longer perceived them.
They just started wandering around aimlessly with no goal or destination in mind.
Dimitris lowered his hand and noticed that Jason still had his hood on, concealing his face.
There had to be a reason he was here and noticed that there was something that Jason wasn’t telling them.
"What is going on?" Dimitris questioned him, he didn’t have the same sentimental value as Rachel even though he was glad that Jason was on their side.
There was no way he was still human and that meant he had to be cautious around Jason.
He didn’t know what he did to the zombies but knew that Jason had some control over them.
"I-I can’t tell you everything now but what I need to say is the community has fallen," Jason said, prompting both Dimitris and Rachel to recoil in shock.
"What do you mean the community has fallen!?" Dimitris pressed on, furiously charging towards Jason but with no intent to harm because he knew that Jason could kill him without even trying.
"D-Don’t worry, everyone is safe," Jason reassured them and Rachel believed him without a doubt.
He did come to her rescue after all and there was no way that he would let anything happen to Lillian.
She no longer cared about anything else, Jason was here and she just felt safe, there was not a shred of doubt in her mind that she still loved him.
She didn’t know how much she missed him until now, the feelings she felt for him were unlike anything she had ever felt, her heart was thumping in her chest to the point it felt like it would rip through it.
"Let me see your face..." Rachel requested but Jason didn’t respond, only turning away from her as her hand reached for his face.
"Jason... Let me," Rachel said once again but Jason knew that she wouldn’t like what she saw.
He was a monster and his face wasn’t like she remembered, there was no way that she would love him if she saw him.
Jason was hesitant, he was scared that this would change how she viewed him but this was something that he had to accept.
This was nothing compared to whatever lay ahead and Jason lowered his hood, the first person to react to what they saw was Dimitris.
Dimitris’ eyes widened in horror, he couldn’t believe the monstrosity before him.
"What the hell happened to you?" Dimitris questioned, the look of disgust mixed with pity was visible on his face but Jason expected this much, even though he wouldn’t wish to look on his face so why subject others to that torture?
"Look at me..." Rachel requested as his back was turned to her but Jason took a deep breath.
"F-Fine but if you throw up, I’m not responsible," Jason showed her he still had his sense of humour.
There wasn’t any other way to survive the cruelty of this world if you didn’t just laugh at the ridiculousness.
Jason turned around and Rachel’s heart stood still, she couldn’t believe the wounds that he had had to endure.
"S-Surprise, I warned you..." Jason muttered weakly before trying to look away but Rachel held his face in place.
"There you are," Rachel muttered with a full-teethed smile and her heart reignited something in Jason.
Something he thought he had lost, came rushing to the surface.
Her eyes hadn’t changed after all these years, the way she looked at him hadn’t changed despite his new monstrous form.
Dimitris, a man who has seen terrible things was unsettled by his appearance yet Rachel was caressing his face like he was still the same handsome man she fell in love with.
"H-Here I am..." Jason muttered to her, he was still self-conscious even though she gave him no reason to, unlike Dimitris who couldn’t hide his disgust.
"W-We need to leave, Sam needs our help," Jason informed Rachel before breaking away from her grasp. He thought that the longer she looked at him, the more likely she was to realize that he looked heinous.
"Sam? Sam is still alive?" Rachel questioned, clearly confused by this sudden announcement even though she also wanted to ask how he knew but it has been a year.
She knew now wasn’t the time to catch up, Jason was on a level of his own right now and as long as he was there, nothing could go wrong.
"S-Sam is alive, he has gone to Clementine," Jason pointed out and this was what caught Dimitris’s attention because Clementine was someone he knew.
"She found him?" Rachel asked to which Jason nodded with a smile.
"J-Just like you found me," Jason responded but he began to walk into Dimitris’s attention, once again with his back faced to Rachel.
He whispered something into his ears that made the big Russian stiffen up before looking back at Rachel.
"I will have to go there to help him out, you should head back before Lillian worries about you," Jason suggested but he knew that Rachel wouldn’t want to leave him after just reuniting with him.
"I want to come with you!" Rachel did as he suspected.
"Y-You cannot, do not forget who is important to you. You cannot risk your life when you have Lillian’s to protect. I could never do that to her," Jason said sternly.
Rachel thought about her next response, she knew that her emotions were at an all-time high so she had to think things through.
"You are right but I need you to promise me one thing..." Rachel said to which Jason nodded.
"Promise me you will come back," Rachel requested to which Jason chuckled with a smile.
"I promise you, I will come back for you, Rachel," Jason smiled.
This was the final confrontation and Jason knew that with Schneider’s body not being at full strength or rather, reaching its limit.
All he needed to do was make Chronos die within that body as he needed a vessel to utilize his abilities otherwise he was just a piece of rock.
"You know... Glenn never gave up on you," Rachel blurted out, she didn’t even know when these words came out but it was a reflection of how much she missed him.
"He told me, he told me you were still out there..." Rachel said as Jason stopped in his tracks.
"I-I am sorry I wasn’t there to help him... But I am glad you were there with him in his final moments... Dimitris," Jason said, shifting his gaze to Dimitris to acknowledge he did witness his final moments.
"E-Everything will make sense soon, I promise," Jason said as he continued on his way.
"I love you, Jason..." Rachel said under her breath but it shouldn’t have been audible to anyone Jason’s auditory senses were peaked due to his evolution and this brought a smile across his face as he whispered under his breath.
"I love you too Rachel..."
They watched him disappear into the distance, they knew that the world was going to shit but if Jason was this strong then maybe, just maybe there was still hope for humanity.
Rachel walked up to Dimitris and had one thing in mind, she wanted to know what Jason told him.
"What did he tell you?" Rachel asked him and all Dimitris did was chuckle faintly.
"He told me if I ever laid my hands on you again, I would lose them," Dimitris said as both of them laughed out loud.
The tension was broken but they were relieved to see that Jason was still the same person they were except for his facial features, that is.
But was he the same person? There was no telling how true this statement was but they knew not to return to the community but rather, the safe point they had established should such a thing happen.
Lillian was safe, that was all that mattered to Rachel at this moment but for how long?
-
They had reached a safe location, one of many places they occasionally scouted to make sure that it was safe enough to retreat to in case of an emergency even though they weren’t sure how long they could stay here.
The place had been cleared out, it was a single compound with a large building, and the fences weren’t strong. That was the only problem and if a horde should come through here, they would easily tear down the iron-netted fence.
However, they had survived and the only good thing they could take out of all of this was Carl’s condition, with Mathias with them, his condition was now stable.
He was going to make it through thanks to Lillian’s quick thinking but they were going to keep him under surveillance as there was no telling if he was going to be okay or not considering he was still unconscious.
