System Of The Undead

Chapter 253: Who Is The Mastermind?

Chapter 253: Who Is The Mastermind?

Jason made a big discovery and this all made sense but if Franklin wasn’t the one that wrote the suicide note there was a good chance that he wasn’t the one that took his life.

Jason was beginning to piece things together, there was no telling what else Allison had done.

He wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume whatever she was doing was for the good of the community but what good did this do?

Were the people on the list even responsible for what had happened or did Allison manipulate the information to divert the attention from the true culprits?

Jason was beginning to understand just how deadly the Specters were, it wasn’t just their combat abilities but their cunning nature.

The Specters were a threat and he had underestimated them because he thought that they had no interest in the community but that was not the case.

They had shown that they had the skills and the tactical awareness to take over the community but he was unsure of their goals.

This was the reason he was meeting up with Allison after all.

[[Scanning...]]

Chronos was scanning for further details because, unlike Jason, he remembered every single detail of what transpired a couple of months ago, this included the handwriting embedded on the suicide note.

The name that was crossed out drew even more curiosity, he wanted to know what was crossed out but he also knew that things would become complicated if this got out.

But Jason had a smirk on his face, he was impressed by Allison because this was something he could never have predicted but Jason was also becoming increasingly unstable.

Something was going on inside of him and he couldn’t understand it himself.

[[Scan Complete!]]

Chronos informed him but Jason was wondering what he was scanning to begin with.

"What is the problem?" Jason questioned Chronos.

He had an understanding with his system because Chronos was on his side or at least for now.

Jason couldn’t trust this parasite because he didn’t know if the same fate awaited him.

Would he eventually lose his individuality to the very parasite that was aiding him?

[[Positive Identification!]]

[[99% Match!]]

Chronos confirmed what was only a suspicion and Jason now understood what he needed to do.

"I need to kill her, don’t I?" Jason muttered to himself but for some reason, the look on his face portrayed anything other than excitement.

-

Glenn was awake and he was feeling a lot better, he had survived certain death thanks to the help of that unnamed child but of course, he didn’t know this.

Glenn saw that Dimitris was seated up, he didn’t look as helpless.

Dimitris had a cooked meal right in front of him, this had become a common occurrence as they were slowly becoming self-sufficient.

They grew the food they ate and luckily, it could be cooked. They had grown from a community that relied on canned food to grow their crops.

"Look who has returned from the dead..." Dimitris blurted out and Glenn cracked a weak smile.

He might have overcome the worst but his body was still severely weak, he couldn’t do much else except speak in low tones.

"I thought I wouldn’t make it..." Glenn thought because he was so close to crossing over to the other side, he was in a state of near death but somehow, he had overcome it.

"That would be because of me," Mathias popped out of nowhere to reveal this.

The doctor who was once taken as a joke had the skills to save Glenn from a situation that he didn’t think possible.

However, this revelation meant that they had plans to conceal what the boy had done.

This wouldn’t be necessary if they planned to kick him out so why was this case?

It was simple, Dimitris bent his morals and ensured that no harm would come to the boy by leaving him under Rachel’s care.

He didn’t know why but Rachel didn’t seem scared by what she had seen and this told him that it was because she had seen something similar before.

Thus, she was the most suited to look after him but Dimitris had ordered a gag order.

No one was to speak of what they saw yesterday and this way, Mathias took credit for performing an otherwise impossible feat, increasing his status in the community as he was slowly becoming irreplaceable.

There wasn’t any other doctor to take his place and this made him one of the highest-ranked individuals here.

"I have to thank you, I don’t know how you did but thank you for saving my life..." Glenn showed his gratitude but Mathias simply smiled at this response.

"I’m a doctor, it is my job," Mathias responded with a reassuring tone.

Dimitris stood up, he knew he couldn’t stay idle for too long or the people might mistake this for weakness.

That was the last thing he needed even though Mathias wanted him to rest for a bit more but Dimitris has always been a stubborn man.

He wasn’t going to listen and that was fine, it was one of those things that couldn’t be helped.

Dimitris was back on his feet and walked outside the tent, he couldn’t believe that he was doing this.

His past self would have killed the boy where he stood but if they had found a cure to combat the fragments’ effect on humans then he had to take it.

There had to be a reason why this was possible and he knew that if this information got out then the boy would be treated as some sort of guinea pig which was a small price to pay for humanity but Dimitris also knew he didn’t need to do what he did.

That act in itself was an act of humanity, that boy wasn’t some monster but he could feel empathy because he could have kept this ability from them.

Dimitris knew there had to be another way, this was just the beginning and he wasn’t going to risk anything getting in the way.

But he couldn’t help his gut feeling, it felt like the days of peace were coming to an end.
